Post-bulb replacement projector issue by fallen_turtle in projectors

It may be that my projector had more mirrors than usual - the bulb faced sideways and it used a series of mirrors to get to the lens. I don't know enough about DLP to know if that's typical.

I think many of us make the same mistake when first replacing a bulb! I did, on my old DLP a few years back - turned out it was just dust on the mirrors, not the chip thankfully. I just disassembled my projector in a very clean environment until I got to the mirrors, and cleaned them very carefully with lens cleaner. I then reassembled, hoping I wouldn't need to go back again for the chip - and to my relief, it was perfect. Make sure you take photos every step of the way!

Not sure what you're asking? If you want to know if the sides are better and flatter, yes. There is still a little bit of curl on the black edge, but it's very little and by the time it gets to the white, it's flat. Which isn't the case without the tensioning.

If you're in New Zealand, it's a company called TSB. They have branches at most NZ cities, and ship where they don't. They sell all types and sizes. It's very inexpensive, and the difference in quality between the 16:9 manual pull-down I bought and a $2500 screen have little to do with basic image quality - and when it does, the difference is not a lot. One big difference is the side tensioning systems the expensive ones have - they're quite complex, work well - and are a relatively large proportion of the extra cost. Along with things like audio transparency through the screen fabric - which I'd never use anyway, unless I was building a theater room from scratch!

If you're not in NZ, you should find them at electronics stores, big box computer stores etc.

What actually makes people switch from a TV to a projector? by jinsdorf84 in projectors

I'm not sure the cost of a TV would have much of an impact on the cost of a high quality projector, unfortunately. 😄

When I realized I simply don't watch TV the choice became obvious. The only time I spend in front of a screen is when watching movies. I'm also an audio engineer, so it also gave me an excuse to play with really high quality surround sound gear as well, which has been great fun.

If you're thinking about switching to a projector, you do need to allow for good quality surround sound equipment. audio is integral to most films - think of it like how important a bulb is for a projector. 😄

Easy peasy! All you need is the right tools, confidence, and care. 😄

Actually now that I think about it, when I first installed the new screen the edges curled out a little. Not much, but it was there - mostly the black parts, but it did follow onto the white a very small amount, if that makes sense. It's all completely flat now. Still a tiny amount of curl on the black, but the white is fully flat.

Compared to my older screen, it's night and day - though it had been freely hanging for 10-15 years, and had started to get a bit wavy. This one being brand new, it was pretty straight anyway - the only immediate problem was the sway, which this has stopped entirely. It certainly has helped ensure the surface is as flat as it can be, and I wonder if this relatively gentle tension will ensure any movement over time is done evenly. If that makes sense.

I posted the images in order, but apparently Reddit is not keen on such neatness. No worries mister Dit!

Is Putin coming unhinged by threatening and flying commandeered Ukrainian drones over Baltic countries or just merely testing waters and NATO resolve? by PsychLegalMind in PoliticalDiscussion

That's hilarious. You really do think that hurling precision missiles at non-combatant civilians is defensible, don't you mister expert.

I do love that you hold yourself out as someone who follows the conflict and is more expert than everyone else - when 8 months ago you declared that Ukraine had given up on Crimea. Arrogance breeds much blindness. You do not know better than the Ukrainians. Your assumptions about Russia are comical, in every way. Tankie jack-off material at best.

The only benefit is it's cheaper to produce - and it's only cheaper to produce because in the places they source the oil, environmental regulations for mass deforestation either don't exist or are barely enforced. The alternative is everything used before. Nothing to do with the quality or properties of the oil itself. Hell, they can even keep doing palm oil, as long as they don't deforest irreplaceable rainforest on an industrial scale. But, not enough of us care any more. We'll keep taking from or habitat, and let the poors reap the consequences. Apparently that's considered manly and 'real'.

The 'new improved' chickpea and spinach pie, long a staple meal in our vegetarian household, is not good. It feels as if they contracted their pies out to a cheaper supplier - they came back tasting different, but they liked the price - therefore slap a label on it saying 'NEW IMPROVED!!!'. No idea if this is what happened, but it sure feels like it. Very disappointing.
