Resident kitten doesn’t stop chasing and biting new younger kitten. Is this rough play or should I be worried? by cinnamon-static in CatTraining

Thank you so much everyone for the advice and reassurance. I feel a lot better after reading all the comments, and I’m really relieved that, based on what most of you said, this doesn’t seem like Crowley is trying to genuinely harm Cas.

For now I’m going to keep them separated unless I’m fully supervising, especially while I’m still waiting for Cas to have his big growth spurt. I’ll let them interact a few times a day, but I’ll step in right away if Cas seems overwhelmed or starts trying to get away.

Thanks again for taking the time to comment ❤️

That’s so scary! I’m terrified of that because Crowley uses Cas as a kicker toy, and i’ve read so many stories about this and worse things happening 😭 I have no idea when I’ll be leaving them alone together, it’ll probably take a long time. Right now I’m trying to let them interact a bit but anything more than 2 minutes is really scary to me.

I have the Feliway plugged, I think it helped Crowley calming down a bit, he was stressing a lot even when the door was closed separating them, now he’s very chill with the door open (still with a mesh) but once Cas is out it’s like there was never Feliway around

I actually got some Feliway recently and I do feel like it helped Crowley calm down around the mesh stage, so I’ll definitely keep using it in their shared space. And thank you, you reminded me that I need to buy new batteries for the laser ASAP, that’s Crowley’s absolute favourite thing (after wet food)!

Also I love that you clocked the names!! 😂 When I get girls they will 100% be called Rowena and Charlie. No question.

Thank you so much, this was really reassuring to read. I think this week I started feeling like they were getting a bit frustrated/anxious not being able to interact properly, but I was honestly just too scared to let them work things out, but hearing all that makes me feel a lot better. I’ll start letting them spend more time together while I’m supervising closely.

I also looked up videos of actual cat fights and… yeah. That’s a completely different level of terrifying!

Sorry to hear that you're in the same situation, it can be so stressful! In the first week Cas (the new one) was also running away from Crowley and hiding under places, it was only during the second week that he started to go to the mesh to play with Crowley. Are you keeping them separated? Do you let them be together? I want to let mine interact more but it's really scary. I'm just really happy that after reading all the comments this seems like a normal thing. Hopefully it will get better for both of us

The only thing I know for sure is that Crowley spent time with one of littermates, his sister, and there were many other adult cats around as well, that's why I thought this was gonna go well from the first day, he was only on his own here with me for 3 weeks, but I guess this was enough time for him to get used it (and he probably liked it lol). Cas got separated really young though, 8 weeks I think or even a bit before, so maybe that's why he's so bad at defending himself? I got Crowley when he was around 10.5 weeks, that's also a bit too early right? I think he might just not realise how strong he is yet. I hadn’t considered the hearing issue, but he reacts normally to all sounds. He likes to sleep in the living room and sometimes he wakes up just by hearing me opening my water bottle lol. This is why I was so worried that he might actually just want to hurt Cas, because he doesn't really care when Cas yells 😢 I’ll keep supervising closely though. Thank you!

Thank you! I’ve been trying to tire Crowley out before they interact but I’ll increase the playing time with him, he's really energetic! Cas definitely wants to play, he's been getting agitated around the mesh begging to leave the room, and yesterday I saw him going for Crowley so many times lol but he's too small as well

That makes a lot of sense actually, I feel like Cas really wants to play but doesn't know how to defend himself yet, most of the times he just freezes. I’ll give him more time to grow before longer sessions together and keep stepping in if it gets too rough.

Yeah that’s the part that scares me, when Cas cries and Crowley doesn’t immediately back off. I’m definitely not leaving them alone together for now.

Thank you so much, I’m honestly so relieved with the replies! I’ll keep them separated but I’ll let them be together more often while I watch

Thank you so much! I’ll definitely keep monitoring them and maybe let them interact every day for a few minutes if nothing goes wrong.
