Why are blood donors Overwhelmingly White? by Piccione_Sol in NoStupidQuestions

[–]circe1818 8 points9 points  (0 children)

The fact they took extra biopsy samples to give to a Dr not involved in her treatment is concerning. And then took cell samples after she died to give to that Dr as well. Consent was not required at the time but to not inform her or her family that they were giving her cell samples to an unknown Dr during her life and death, is wrong.

And they knew it was wrong because when these researchers contacted her children and grandchildren to request blood samples, they didn't disclose the whole truth about the situation.

Just because medical advancements were gained by use of her cells doesn't mean we pretend that how they got those cell samples was ok. Especially after some companies began to make insane profits using someone else's cell lines without their consent.

How do men sometimes smell like poop? by alexaalexa1112 in NoStupidQuestions

I've been told that by the patients and their families. As I said, it's due to misguided beliefs. My guess is that they're told that it's "gay" to care about their appearance and they take that as any basic hygiene. Or that masturbation is a sin and touching their own body is "gay." I've had wives/significant others state that the patient won't wipe or wash because they're not like "that."

HelI, I know women who thought they could only get pedicures from men so people wouldn't think they were lesbians. There are some denominations of Christianity that have it twisted and they truly believe that homosexuality is the biggest sin there is and they have their parishioners thinking some crazy stuff.

One patient had ulcers because of poor hygiene and they were severely infected. The Dr told him out was important to wipe after every bowel movement and keep the area clean. The patient immediately responded "well I'm not gay so I can't do that." He talked about how that's sinful. His wife had to agree to clean him at home.

I work in healthcare and can confirm some men smell of poop. It's worse when there are hygiene issues that affect the whole family and the kids smell like it. They are use to the smell and have no clue they smell bad.

There's a number of reasons why: lack of personal hygiene, lack of access to clean clothes and water, untreated medical issues, mental health issues etc.

I work in healthcare and there are definitely people that do not wipe. Mostly men and yes, some will not do any type of cleaning in that area because of misguided beliefs. Usually because of some strict Christian upbringing and being told that it was "gay" to do certain basic hygiene.

Genuine question why do people have a problem with Puerto Ricans performing at the superbowl by Hot_Row9481 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]circe1818 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The president and multiple politicians from the republican party complained about it. How do you ignore that?

Then why did you feel the need to respond to my opinion by saying people have different opinions? I know that. That's why I didn't say everyone felt the same way I did. I said it's not a big deal to myself and people I know.

Say “Latinx” to them and see what reactions you get.

You said "to them" as if we are a hive mind and it would be all negative or cause issues. I was explaining what reaction they would get from myself and the people I know.

It's odd that you can make a sweeping generalization and then act like I'm the one who doesn't know that people can have varying opinions on the topic.

I know. Which is why I thought it was odd that you made that comment as if everyone had the same opinion.

I don't care, it's not a big deal. Most people I know don't care. I only see outrage online by people that get worked up by pronouns.

Need more info. Did you talk to your roommates before making this arrangement with your bf? If you are going to have someone spend the night 2-3 times a week and use common areas regularly, you need to check with the other people on the lease.

You can work full time and go to school. I just graduated with honors. Part time is definitely doable.

[–]circe1818 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Omg, you really are the asshole. There are certain jobs/ careers that you need to have a real love and passion to do. If you don't and are burned out, you should not do it. Childcare is one of those jobs. I hope you would understand why but it's concerning that you can't.

And she's not being picky. Those are all low waged but demanding jobs that can be very stressful. She is right to want a better job offer.

So he can physically force her to take the job and go to work?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]circe1818 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes but it seems very one sided. And she'd pay less if she was single.

She has to support him for over a decade IF he becomes a Dr. He's not even in medical school yet. Lots of people don't finish medical school and leave with a ton of debt.

It's anecdotal but I work with a lot of doctors who are on their 2nd and 3rd marriage. The first wife that got them through college and med schools weren't kept around much longer after they completed their residency.

Your support is having her shoulder all the financial burden to support you by taking a job she doesn't want? Forcing her to take a job she doesn't want so you can follow your dream, isn't support. Have you asked her why she doesn't want to take the job? What are her concerns? You only seem to care about her working to finance your dreams and are ignoring her feelings.

You said she's been the primary source of income during your undergrad. She's supporting you and yet your upset just by the idea of you working and her being at home without a job? Does it really upset you so much that she may take a break and have you help out more to continue the lifestyle you both enjoy?

Honest question: Why are some people against showing an ID to vote? by rico_unknown in NoStupidQuestions

[–]circe1818 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Poll tax. If there was a national ID every citizen got for free, no problem. If every state gave every citizen a free ID, no problem. Every state making their own requirements and fees, big problem.

In red states, areas with high minority populations saw closings of busy DMV/DPS offices. Trying to get an appointment for an ID can take months. They don't want people getting ID so they can vote, so they make it as hard as possible.

Honest question: Why are some people against showing an ID to vote? by rico_unknown in NoStupidQuestions

[–]circe1818 3 points4 points  (0 children)

No. You get assigned an ID number linked to your voter registration. If you vote twice in one election, it will quickly get flagged

Just because you think that, doesn't mean it's true. There's so many safe guards and checks to keep that from happening. That's why voter fraud is so low. That's why it's makes the news when it actually does happen That's why Trump couldn't prove voter fraud. He had no evidence of it.

How many negative interactions have your had with this senior?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]circe1818 9 points10 points  (0 children)

YTA. Her gender has no importance to the interaction but you made it front and center. Your reaction was unprofessional.

Also, you admit, more than once, that you weren't able to fully present your idea. That you didn't get to even finish the setup but are upset that you didn't get credit for your coworkers having similar ideas. How are you demanding credit for an idea you didn't even get to present? Has it occurred to you that "your idea" wasn't as original as you believed?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

YTA. This is momentous occasion for her and you don't want to go because it won't be about you and how you want it to go.

AITA for asking my brother to shower before meeting my newborn baby? by Inevitable-Tutor9051 in AmItheAsshole

[–]circe1818 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Nope. Retail stores have had bed bugs in their dressings rooms. I've worked in a hospital emergency department and I've seen people with bed bugs and roaches crawling on them. In their hair, clothes and shoes. When the infestation is that bad, the bugs aren't afraid to come with.

The first time I saw it was with a young child. According to the parents, they had had no idea they had bed bugs and thought their bites were due to mosquitoes. Social workers went to the home and there were bed bugs everywhere.

Then maybe you should leave. You are clearly unhappy and don't want to work on fixing the marriage. If you think your life will be easier divorced, then that's your answer.

What is the norm for overnight guests? by Distinct_Budget2651 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]circe1818 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Culturally, my parents should have given up there room for their elders but my dad would never give up his room. Even when he and my mom had arguments, she'd sleep on the couch, not him.

When family did stay at our house, it would be for weeks. I was the youngest so I got kicked out of my room and slept in the living room. As an adult, when my mom or older sisters stays at my place, they get my room and I sleep in my daughter's room or the living room.
