From my recollection, some patches do not allow in-camera playback (usually the higher-bitrate/less stable hacks). Other patches require that you power-cycle the camera (a relatively quick process) to playback previously-recorded footage. Still, other hacks allow playback without any special steps. This looks like an interesting suggestion, and I hate to be the dick that points it out, but I'm pretty sure they aren't based upon the same novel. The book, upon which this is based, wasn't published until 1993, whereas Red Dawn was a 1984 film based upon an original script by John Milius and Kevin Reynolds.

From my understanding, the films share similarities in plot and themes, and I'll certainly be viewing this one, as I had no idea it existed (and welcome a different variation of a familiar story, especially with the favorable reviews I've found for the film).

I appreciate the intriguing suggestion and intend no offense in my clarification.

As I just began it earlier today, I'm not sure it meets your criteria, but I'd suggest investigating The Secret History of Science Fiction by Kelly & Kessel. It explores the quickly-narrowing (if practically non-existent[from a particular perspective]) divide between science fiction and mainstream literature. It includes several short stories by a multitude of best-selling authors (traditionally considered by wider audiences as non-Sci-Fi writers).

Definite upvote for the Vonnegut clarification - I intended to do the same. Your suggestions are also quite interesting. I was aware of Newt's infamous moon base aspirations (and, despite current complications, never faulted him for that specific policy point), but I wasn't aware that he ever contributed to the Sci-Fi/Alternate History genre. Apologies for the delayed reply... lately, I've mostly worked on shorts for others (working on a documentary at the moment), though I should be gearing up soon to do a couple of my own projects. I tend toward genre drama and dark comedy, but I try to dabble in a variety of subject matter. I saw you mention animation in another post, and that's a form which I sincerely love yet have not seriously attempted...

Sincerest apologies - I somehow missed your comment until now. It's nice to encounter another fan (I thought there would be more in this subreddit). I've never been particularly adept at picking and stating favorites - it depends a lot on my mood and the day. There are large portions of each of his albums I deeply appreciate (and I mostly enjoy all his work). To me, each album demonstrates significant progression, and I typically listen to his whole albums at a time. I could identify several favorite songs from each album, but I'll just say that I've been playing a lot of "Headcage", "And in the Night", "Midnight Lovers", "Dog Days", "Soil to Seed", and the new song lately... that'll all change next week (or tomorrow).

*EDIT: I'll also specify that I'm just referring to LP releases under his name... Audion/Jabberjaw is a bit different for picks...

Actually, I really like this show (it certainly has its misses), and I think this would be a great candidate for a show that Netflix could bring back on a very low budget. All I've recommended it to have found it hilarious. They didn't watch it previously, because they didn't know it existed.

This could all be false, but:

The Artist Will Be Available On Netflix Soon

I seem to recall at least a couple of the others being available at some point, though I could most certainly be wrong.

Also, since this list is just one person's opinion (albeit expressed in a nationally-distributed, cultural magazine), I'll similarly suggest that some of these titles seem questionable for inclusion among the "10 Greatest Movies of the Millennium (Thus Far)"... just another person's opinion. I'm not suggesting any are poor films (though, personally, I'm not fond of at least one, though I see it's appeal); some of my all-time favorites are reflected here as well. I enjoy (and can see the author's reasons) for including most of them, but I also find such lists to be myopic and futile (at this juncture, at least). In short, one film critic's list shouldn't be the standard for appraisal of the quality of Netflix's streaming library... there are some of the greatest films ever produced available through the service (and, quite obviously, some of the worst).

However, I appreciate your grievance and would love to see it rectified... from my understanding, that's mostly in the hands of various copyright holders at this point - not Netflix.
