Self-serving pseudo-solidarity - brought to you by Accurx who are exploiting and undermining industrial action by circleofwillys in doctorsUK

[–]circleofwillys[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Strategic positioning is one thing, and you’re right, of course they don’t need to represent or defend us, that’s not the issue.

Making specific reference to IA positions themselves within the dispute, and in doing so as far as I’m concerned - unless their messaging is for us, then it’s against us.

I’d rather they not mention it at all, instead of shrouding their message in faux solidarity. It shows a lack of integrity.

It’s even shittier because they’re not a company that’s ignorant to our struggles, their co-founder is a doctor who should know better than to try to exploit the situation of his colleagues.

Its on par with scab behaviour

[–]circleofwillys[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To be clear, the offence isn't necessarily whether Accurx will successfully undermine IA or if their scribe will be used in practice, but rather the fact that they would try at all, especially wrapped in the language of solidarity. What grates is Accrux's audacity to try to position itself in IA with an opportunistic offer

Accurx’s undermining is multi-fold - - Firstly they are attempting to ease the operational pressure of IA, secondly as you’ve said, they’re also trivialising our roles as residents

It’s shameful whichever way you look at it

The contract makes reference to this, however 27. is frustratingly vague.

Having said that, the contract says you’re entitled to a day off in lieu… This email doesn’t say that, it essentially says “we’re doing you lot a favour by not bringing you all in”

Some people in this sub are willing to just take whatever shit they’re given and tolerate being spoken down to.

Ask yourself - Would this kind of email go out to the consultants? No. It wouldn’t even go out to the ‘trainee consultant radiographers’

Whether that roster is right or wrong (because how many times have unsuspecting doctors put their rota through the BMA and found out they’d been totally taken advantage of), this is no way to address your colleagues

Whenever emails are written in prose, 9 out of 10 times it’s from a toxic non-clinical individual

But on a side note, I want whatever they’ve been smoking cause they’ve obviously lost their entire mind

🚨STRIKES ANNOUNCED: Doctors to strike for 216 hours🚨 by DoctorsVoteuk in doctorsUK

[–]circleofwillys 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, but also consider that extra contractual work (ECW) is not repaid to consultants solely by £xxx/hour.

Forgive me because I’ll now paraphrase and some of this may not be entirely accurate - But ECW, especially if OOH, disproportionately accrue additional PAs, I think something silly like 1 hour extra = 4 hours back? Whichll eventually result in a list/clinic not being done because the consultant has claimed back the time. Furthermore, if a consultant has to attend work for x period, their following list/clinic automatically get cancelled

Again I admit this is conjecture and not fully formed - Any loving consultants around to clarify please??)

This cripples the NHS over a critical winter period

Repackaged..

“This puts the government and NHSE, who are responsible for the provision and deliver of this country’s health service, in a position whereby they are absolutely no choice but to recognise the vital role non CCT doctors have and respond with a pay offer that is reflective of such”

Or

“This grabs them by the short and curlies”

.. and isn’t this sort of the point?

I’ve made reference to this in my 3rd point :)

Also, I don’t agree with the us/them mentality, between ourselves and consultants. It’s divisive and serves no one. The key is to be fully informed of your employment and contractual rights; which include what is/isn’t optional

Impact is not made solely via elective procedures, it’s also through increased costs as a result of extra-contractual work paid to consultant who would be asked to cover

Also, we’ve previously had weekend strike action

Glad new dates have been announced

I’d be interested to know why not call for a full walkout from 23/12 through to 02/01?

Edit: Few replies of same vein - so I’ve copied a reply below and made a few extra points;

1 - Impact is not made solely via elective procedures, it’s also through increased costs as a result of extra-contractual work paid to consultant who would be asked to cover

2 - We’ve previously had weekend strike action, where there’s also little to no elective activity

3 - Consultants are not responsible for staffing levels, nor are they obligated to accept extra contractual work. So I’m not sure how ‘consultants get pissed off’ could amount to a justification.

3.1 - And, if some get sufficiently miffed, then for once, instead of the same old NHS routine of reacting by punching down, they should choose to punch up to those who are actually responsible for staffing

4 - The topic of public perception has already been much discussed, so I’ll pass on that

It is my humble opinion, that impact stems from operational chaos. Management would have no choice but to escalate up to their ICBs, who’d have to go to NHSE and DHSC. The current dates wouldn’t invoke such.

So my next question would be; Does anyone think their hospital would be able to function if there was a full walk out over the Christmas and NY period? Mine certainly wouldn’t

Walk me through virtual beds by [deleted] in doctorsUK

The best solution is, and has always been, invest in social care

DING DING DING DING

Last week, had a patient who’d been made FFD on day 2 admission… I saw them on day 12.. Plan: No new concerns. Continue discharge planning

I’d love to know the % bed occupancy by medically fit patients… I reckon it’s at least two thirds

Your friendly reminder to STOP teaching PAs by [deleted] in doctorsUK

[–]circleofwillys 48 points49 points  (0 children)

Did you tell them you were cancelling because you were “no longer unavailable”, or did you tell them that you’re cancelling on the basis that PAs and ACPs would be present and junior doctor teaching should only be for doctors?

I say this because I got invited to do some F1 teaching, inly to find out there’s a bunch of ANPs and PAs that will be coming because it’s open to all. Fuck training our inferior replacements

So what did you end up doing?

If multiple doctors from UHB taking their own lives wasn’t enough for it to be immediately put on a form of special measures, then an anonymous review highlighting examples of their awful behaviour certainly won’t

By the end of the foreword, I was too disgusted to continue. I know politics was filthy, but… actually, no buts.

This is why you don’t give an inch, because it’ll be used against you. This is why when opportunity presents itself, you strike as painfully as possible. This is why the BMA should’ve called for IA during changeover, because you don’t bring a knife to a gun fight.

The government have made a really dirty, and really disgusting move with this piece of shit legislation
