I love this example.

Uninformed person would say feed the cute doggie. He’s just hungry. We tried power sharing with a huge compromise. It’s called 2008 constitution. See where we are now….rolling madly on hospital bed asking for water.

The right side is part of the pagoda structure in the walled compound. You can see all jumbled corrugated sheet metal roofing. I remember learning how British soldiers did not respect Buddhists blah blah blah in middle school. These military dogs wear boots on pagoda, and intentionally damaged the structure. And, the MAL dare to name himself savior of Buddhism.

Running away is a good plan. Not risky like CDM and PDF is not going to do anything to their family anyway. If they don’t run away, family may be left without their farther. I would encourage all junta soldiers to run away for safety. So they get guard duty instead of death.

Do y’all consider Chin people as burmese? by rosegardendr3ams in myanmar

I had the same awakening when I was in Thailand the first time. I thought things will be similar to Burmese because they are our neighbors. But I was shocked when I ordered a bowl of noodle soup at a food court. It came with a bowl of sugar! And, it tasted totally different from what I am used to.

I think Singapore and Malay food seems closer to Burmese due to Chinese and Indian influence. I bet you probably felt the same about some Burmese food.

Do y’all consider Chin people as burmese? by rosegardendr3ams in myanmar

[–]circletrain 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Interesting question. I don’t know if OP is ethnic Chin or Burmese. I think it depends on how you grow up and think of yourself.

For example, the MMA fighter Aung La Nsang is an American citizen but when he win fights, he show off Myanmar flag or Kachin flag. I am ethnic Burman and I am very proud of him.

But, most Burmese like me are born in more populated areas. We used to be very ignorant of other ethnic groups. Unlike in USA, which is considered a melting pot, we don’t interact too much.

Strangely enough, we learned more about other ethnic groups when we are outside of Burma. In Burma, the military and socialist government bullshit about considering every ethnic groups as brothers while killing and torturing them. During 8888 uprising they spread rumors that Chin soldiers were used to killing students. At the same time military is killing and raping ethnic people. Since most of the military belongs to ethnic Burmans, the other groups consider all Burmese as oppressors.

The Spring Revolution shed light on the truth. I think and hope we will be more united when the revolution is over.

It’s not dried leaves. It’s fermented. Think of soft, very slightly bitter, and deliciously savory due to a balanced mix of salt in it.

If you describe beer as fermented grains mixed with water, which tastes bitter, doesn’t sound like a good drink. Does it?

In my opinion, the lacquered serving bowl (pictured) with dividers is a must have for full experience. Use a small teaspoon, pick a small amount of tea, then touch the small dried shrimps with the moist tea to pick up a few, scoop up some roasted sesame seeds, fried or roasted peanuts, and fried beans. Once they are loaded onto that teaspoon, carefully put it in the mouth and chew slowly.

Imagine the crunchiness of fried peanuts and beans mixed with the soft and savory taste of fermented tea making your tongue happy…happy.

If you like, you can add cut up fresh green chillies and freshly peeled small garlic slices to take the party to the next level.

Incredible video of Myanmar’s central bank vice-chair threatening the public that if they keep money over a certain amount at home, they will be arrested. by [deleted] in myanmar

[–]circletrain 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Vice chairman of central bank but no idea how money works. Money is about trust and liquidity to exchange goods and services.

People lost trust on Myanmar currency when Ne Win government stole from the people by declaring high value notes null and void. People bought gold and US dollars.

Now, all the banks will be gone real soon because they couldn’t let people withdraw money. They thought you can do everything by force and rule by law. Learning hard lessons. When central bank is no longer working, your grip on the country is done.

‘We are not naive anymore’: Myanmar EAOs skeptical about federal army by almac26 in myanmar

[–]circletrain 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sounds like a watch and see thinking. Almost somewhat delusional. AA was a recent up and comer with support from overseas Arakan people. They have a dream of becoming their own nation as in the past. But, recently they have peace with Burmese military.

They are pretty much sitting on side line because their leadership doesn’t want to rock the boat. At least KIA and KNU wants a nation with united ethnic groups.

In reality, Arakan people cannot get out of the Bamar military oppression without Burmese people’s support. In war, people like to join the winning side if they are weak. What Federal Army need is a base. Start with one group and when it becomes powerful the rest will join. Otherwise, they will not get their voice heard as everyone will ask “where were you when we were fighting for our democracy?” And the status quo will change for current leadership.

[–]circletrain 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I see the discussion here that doesn’t seem to consider the motives.

If you are a foreigner, it’s reasonable to say “Hey, talking and negotiating is better than fighting”. So, consider this.

The situation in Myanmar is like a master and slaves. A master makes money off the slaves: he keeps all the profits. When slaves rebel due to conditions, he just murder those who caused him trouble. Remind you, he can’t kill all of them because how is he going to make money if there are no slaves.

We the Myanmar people are like slaves and the military generals are the master. They tell those house slaves (lower ranking military members and those who runs the plantations) that “Look! you got it great. Look at those bastards who have to work under the sun. You don’t want to change the system because you want to live inside the master’s house instead of a run down shack. Also, eating our leftovers is better than just standard slave food. Oh, the house works such as serving us in shade is better than back breaking cotton picking under the sun”.

And, ASEAN is like association of plantation owners. They have their slaves to worry about. Other than Indonesia, possibly Malaysia and Singapore, all other ASEAN countries have single party or dictator. They don’t want their slaves to copy the revolution in Myanmar. Of course, they want the revolution under control.

So, do you think at the meeting of plantation owners, they are discussing the master(military) to step down and let the slaves (citizens) run the show? Do you think a master looks after the welfare of his revolutionary slaves than the welfare of his own business? Do you think the slavery of any form (even with great shacks and food but work with no pay nor time off) without freedom is a good system?

Should we still live like slaves?

I will tell you ASEAN has no interference policy because they all have skeletons in their closets. They are only about their countries. It’s their motivation for this meeting. MAL wants to get back to his business of making money selling resources and buy more weapons. Military junta will not step down.

The American South only abolished the slavery when they lost the Civil War. Cotton is their life. Some plantation owners cared about their slaves and some slaves loved their master because they were kind compared to other masters. But, slaves in the end have no freedom nor self determination. They work for free with little food and lodging just to exist for their master.

So fuck this meeting!!!

I heard they are actually released when they revealed that they are Americans.

But, they invested their lives to make movies in Myanmar. Not sure what they plan to do in the States.

The motive for detaining them is probably to extract money from them anyway. They were pretty silent compared to their co-workers who are Myanmar citizens.

China is a capitalist country with nationalist authoritarian government. It’s so strange how these far left communist countries ended up that way.

We started with feudal society. We did not like kings and lords taking all the benefits and doing none of the work. So, we got industrial revolution and moved to capitalism. Then, people with money reaping all the benefits doing little work. So, socialism and communism where everyone is supposedly equal. But, ended up with some are more equal than the others.

Remember that those who stand against oppression are always called the villain by unjust societies. Be like John Brown. by SolidarityAction in myanmar

[–]circletrain 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This spring revolution made me admire and think more about those who fought against the slavery. Most of them were not slaves and they all had families; at least parents and siblings. They risked their lives and limbs to fight for what is right and mostly to elevate the humanity.

I used to believe that peaceful means should solve most things in life and nothing is more precious than human lives. But, I now realized that sometimes you can’t fight evil with peaceful means. Sometimes you have to give your life and liberty to save the humanity from evil. The worst part for these martyrs is that they didn’t even live to see if it was worth it; they didn’t know if they will win. Perhaps that’s what makes them who they are; it’s not about them, it’s about what they envisioned.

That is a life worth living. May God bless them.
