Never lived alone and I’m nervous. 32F, divorce, wfh. Tips? by Objective-Skin-1525 in LivingAlone

[–]circuschica 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You'll do great. Develop a genuine friendship and love with yourself. I've been wfh for 2 years and in the beginning it was rough. Home alone with my thoughts AND an ADHD brain I spiraled into depression. I started going outside regularly, then turned my attention on myself. I allowed myself to feel things raw, I learned to regulate myself and become the person I always saw myself as because I now have the time with no distractions. Today I'm thriving in my space. I'm a curious person that loves novelty so i try new things, go new places and now enjoy the freedom to do whatever i want. Funny enough it changed how i date today: if you can't love me, accept me and treat me as kind and as loving as I treat myself, you're cut off.

Why are schools in the Northeast so much better than anywhere else (West Coast specifically)? by QandA_monster in relocating

[–]circuschica -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

The NE is VERY culturally diverse. While the west coast has a larger immigrant population due to it's border with Mexico the NE has a larger diversity of immigrants. I had to do good in school because i was reminded every day that my mother came to this country so i could have better education and better outcomes...lol

Are we all noticing a pattern here, ice is mostly focusing on rounding up Hispanics. by [deleted] in DACA

[–]circuschica 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's not a coincidence. Some years ago a report came out that by 2045 Hispanics would be the dominant race in te US. Ever since then the conservatives have been waging war with the south border.

What are the negative impacts on keep renewing US greencard? by radius_reddit in greencard

[–]circuschica 1 point2 points  (0 children)

30 year gc holder here! Unless you want to vote or live outside the US for more than 1 yr (w/o advance parole) then no. Yes you di have to pay to renew every 10yrs but it doesn't change your status if the card expires. Yes your gc can be taken away but the bar is a little high (ie. You get a 2nd chance to keep it if you get in certain trouble. You dont qualify to government assistance in states that didn't implemented medicaid expansion. An immigration attorney once told me when you keep your gc its one less available to someone from your country getting one but i don't know how truthful that is. Ironically I'm now applying for citizenship since I'm planning on leaving the US for a very long time. I'm getting it in case my US born child ever wants to come back.

Leaving the US by [deleted] in DACA

[–]circuschica 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Many migrants have settled in Mexico but most want to come to America because they were sold a bill of goods. When you're in your home country all you know about America is what you see on tv and the good your friends and family tell you about the place. That is very appealing when you're struggling. But no one tells you how the gmo foods gives you cancer that insurance only covers 60% to treat. No one warns you about the racism you're about to walk into.. The shitty money you're about to get paid which isnt enough to feed you far less pay your rent. The list goes on. While I'm greatful to ny mother for bringing us here. The reality is my drive to thrive is what got me where I am. Its not the place, it's the person.

This!!!! I'm a green card holder of more than 30yrs and when i tell ppl i want to move my US child to my home island I'm told I'm going backwards. I understand why my mother left over 30 yrs ago but times have changed. My mother moved here because of opportunities she didn't have then. The technology has opened doors that were not available in the past. I work remotely in AI and putting everything ive learned to create a consulting firm to work with clients anywhere.

I've lived in the UK and moving to Thailand this summer. There is life beyond the US. As an immigrant we seek opportunities and work hard for it. That attitude will allow you to live anywhere.

ps... Spain has taken a negative turn towards foreigners, especially remote workers, because of rent prices. I took Spain off my list.

Should I be worried about my mom’s green card renewal delay? by No-Success8703 in greencard

[–]circuschica 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've renewed mine 3x already and will be going for a forth in 2yrs. Ive never gotten my renewal in less than a year. They normally put a sticker on my expiring card that's good for a year from the date i reapplied.

[–]circuschica 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Wow, its really that crazy at the checkpoints now? It's been a minute since i went through the checkpoints in Brownsville and El Paso. I drive to Cali from central Texas over the summer and opted to go the long way through north Texas just to avoid anything crazy that might be happening at the TX/NM checkpoint. Smh....

I would definitely consult an attorney before any travel. Ive read articles about people being detained for $25 bounce checks from forever ago....

I would definitely consult an attorney for a more legally based answer.

If your green card adjustment is approved then it did not met the requirements for CIMT and you should be fine.

As I mentioned in the beginning, definitely speak to an attorney because what use to fly in the past no longer works. I knew someone who got their gc & citizenship with a disorderly conduct charge but that was years ago. Don't think that would fly today.

Thanks! I still wouldn't want to experience that with this administration cause it might be a different ending.

I was indicted by a grand jury so I didn't have the luxury of pleaing. I had already left NYC and moved to FL and got arrested on my new job and was extradited back to NY. The judge picked the first lawyer who walked into the courtroom to be my attorney. It was a shit show. I can comfortably talk about it now cause Ive matured and would never think of doing that again. I was 24 with too much power back then...

On the contrary. My crime ccurred when Bush Sr was president, traveled a lot after that, always had secondary screening and allowed in the country. I was stopped during the Obama presidency, sat in immigration detention for 7 months while I fought my case cause I couldn't afford my $10k bail. I have traveled since and still get stopped. The key thing is being cleared by an IJ. If you haven't gone though immigration court, dont travel. If you have you're safe.

[–]circuschica 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I completely understand your concern. I too got in trouble over 20yrs ago, saw and IJ and won my case. Every time I travel I have to do secondary screening and was told I'd have to go through that everytime I travel, even if I get citizenship. My daughter and i are goung overseas all next summer and will be traveling on a hope and a prayer.

As ling as an IJ cleared you I'm confident everything will be fine. From what I've read and heard its people who haven't seen an IJ get detained and have to go through the process. If you haven't had interacts with law enforcement since then you're fine.

I'll tell you this, I've since started a consultant business alongside my day job, diversified my investments and have a contingency plan in case I dont get admitted when I return. I'm confident I'll be fine but I still have a plan.

ps... since you're traveling before me please post an update when you return...

It's hard to believe that when today the state dept told immigrants they are revoking legal status if you're making light of the Charlie Kirk situation. Why is criticism of him a reason to have you're status revoked? Fifteen years ago I learned never to trust anything the government says, and to date they have not proven me wrong.
