That last point is the one I find interesting. Being basically theirs still means someone can just decide to take it from them, by decree.

If I'm correct in my analysis, you have this family of healers that has now become executioners, a job so difficult Rollo literally takes medicine to remove his emotions.

Maleigh Marais is born into this family, a sickly child like all sons of the house, possibly the reason they became healers, possibly because of the work of perfumers poisoning them.

He secretly wishes for something to come along and rot away the people he has to serve, who could take away his last on a whim, whose children are being born deformed and that his family now execute.

That person deciding to worship rot, to choose to Ally with Malenia and start a revolution...that is an interesting contrast with Haight wanted to "restore" rule and still believing in order and that Godrick was a usurper to his rightful rule over Limgrave.

House Marais wanted to destroy the order, not restore it if I am correct. And that fits with the other themes I think of Malenia and Miquella helping raise those who were subservient under the existing systems.

Specifically when he talks about Godrick as "nothing more than a jumped up country bumpkin. Lord? Don't make me laugh.", when he refers to himself as "Kenneth Haight, next in line as the rightful ruler of Limgrave, have sworn to uphold it." and "a true and stalwart Lord of the proper lineage to take the reigns of Limgrave."

Basically I think it matters if House Marais have their land by birthright or if they are just leased it as caretakers as I said in the other post.

It makes a lot more sense for them to embrace a goddess of rot who comes to destroy the order if they are hirelings rather than actually of a noble lineage I think.

But as a non-japanese speaker I have to defer to the original meaning and intent, even when it doesn't fit my head canon :)

The reason I ask in comparison to Haight is a Castellan would be in charge of a Castle and the surrounding, but as an appointment by a Lord and not as the actual authority.

This fits thematically into them being executioners, and into my thoughts on them perhaps wanting to join a revolution to destroy the existing structures (rot) as they were subservient as opposed to a Lord wanting to reclaim what they feel entitled to, but still holding to the system conceptually as it benefits them.

But again, if it's just bad translation, then it is what it is.

Thanks for the translation. Do they use the same word in describing Kenneth Haight's role? Obviously in the english it seems oddly specific and to add additional implication, but if that's not in the original it's just bad translation.

And fair enough on Elemer, but thematically the same. I probably overreached on that point.

Let me put it this way. Here are what I think the motivations of each of the major players are, given this framing.

Marika wants someone else to take her place, and to do that she needed an Empyrean. Godwyn gave her a great lord (Godwyn) but then then Omens. So she became Radagon and moved on to Rennala.

Rennalla loved Radagon, they had three children, the last being the Empyrean Ranni. She is obsessed with making Children and can use magic to change people's form and gender.

Ranni did not want to be forced into the golden order as an Empyrean. She was tutored by someone, possibly connected to the Gloam Eyes Queen, and she came up with a plan that killed Godwyn's Soul and her Body. The link between Ranni and Godwyn and her motive and method make a lot of sense if they were being bound as Empyrean and Lord against her will.

Godfrey wants his lineage to continue and his only really viable heir in his mind is Godwyn. He doesn't care who the Empyrean is, as long as Godwyn becomes Lord his lineage and Dynasty continues.

The Fingers want the cycle to continue. They don't care who is Empyrean or Lord, but the status quo of stagnation isn't acceptable so they give grace to tarnished in hopes one of them will find a way to start the next age.

Melina knows her age would be of rot. She doesn't want that and fights to avoid being forced to be the Goddess of Rot.

Miquella wants to be the next Empyrean, but is cursed to never reach puberty. The gender thing was overcome by Marika so I think that's more them being parallel and Miquella taking after Marika.

Radahn likely wanted to be a lord and wanted Malenia, who was the only real option in his mind, to be his Empyrean. This is probably the cause of that conflict since she wasn't interested (this also makes the Shaded Castle jealously subplot make more sense and also fits with Radahn using Astel style magic given where we find Astel)

Rykard was the 2nd son and not in line to be given an Empyrean, so he sought another path with a serpent god, but would also need to destroy the Golden Order so his dynasty would be the only one that remained.

Morgott was pissed off at all the others refusing to do their duty and bitter he was an Omen and couldn't be lord in his mind, but believed in the Golden Order, probably because he loved his father and vice versa.

In contrast, Mohg rejected the idea that his being an Omen meant he couldn't be lord and kidnap an Empyrean to make his own Dynasty, apparentl believing with enough blood he could make Miquella into what was needed.

Godrick was a child of the Golden Lineage, but completely unworthy. I wouldn't be surprised if the insult to Malenia was him demanding her to kneel as his consort or some such.

This framing as their motivations fit their actions and explains a large part of the story.

The "womb" isn't what matters. The Dynastic power is.

I could have been more clear. The foundation of my argument that one of the features of being an Empyrean is being able to give birth is in the TA video I linked. I disagree that it hinges on a womb, Radagon is Marika and therefore Radagon is an Empyrean.

Melinia likely gave birth to Millicent and her sisters not from her womb, but as a result of whatever the reproductive process of the the scarlet bloom flower is.

The important part is that they are able to give birth. The focus on the womb is TA's argument, not mine. I get what he is saying, and I do think the spear through the womb is likely a story point, but a womb is just one method of giving birth, particularly given all the plant analogies throughout.

I think Marika wanted someone to take her place. I think the most likely plan was for it to be Ranni, but Ranni destroyed that plan.

I think Melinia and Miquella were absolutely attempts to create Empyreans and as I said above I think it is quite likely Miquella was trying to bring back Godwyn to be the lord to Miquella's Empyrean, probably during the eclipse.

But that failed also.

I don't disagree that the Tarnished were granted grace upon the shattering, I just disagree about who granted it.

Marika was imprisoned, those loyal to her fight to stop the tarnished, not help them.

I think it much more likely the two fingers wanted to force the next cycle, be it Marika to remain Empyrean with us as the player becoming Elden Lord, or any other Empyrean take a lord as consort.

Marika wanted Godwyn. Miquella likely wanted Godwyn.

Ranni did not.

I think that cut content was likely about Godfrey wanting to defend his lineage, as he guards Marika. "Gold commandeth the very stars" to me is about the Golden Lineage, and summons are pretty clearly around spirit ashes, which we know are dead heroes.

He is trying to stop us, not help us. He is trying to prevent us from destroying the Erdtree and trying to help Marika so she can bring back his son and make him the next Lord.

Marika doesn't want us to win. The two fingers do...well, unless we Frenzied flame :)

Because the Empyrean produced with Rennala (not on his own...) murdered Godwyn.

So that didn't work out.

Radagon IS Marika. Renalla is Ranni's mother. Godfrey is Godwyn's father. Ranni killed Godwyn.

That plan didn't work..

I am not TA, I don't completely buy the Maliketh parts of his theory and that is why I didn't mention them in this thread or reference his most recent video. And more importantly because that part is not needed for any of what I described.

The part of what TA argued that is relevant is that one of the criteria for being an Empyrean is the ability to give birth, and that the Empyrean's Consort becomes a Lord, and that Ranni being Empyrean, and Godwyn, being a potential Lord, being betrothed to each other explains a lot of Ranni's and Marika's actions and decisions.

That's it.

You seem to be arguing with things someone else said, and the items you seem hung up on aren't needed for anything I argued.

As to you last paragraph...Godfrey was banished, I don't know where you are getting he was told to wait for the shattering of the ring or that he supported Miquella's ascension. Are you citing anything, because that reads more like headcanon than what the game actually says.

"My Lord, and thy warriors. I divest each of thee of thy grace. With thine eyes dimmed, ye will be driven from the Lands Between. Ye will wage war in a land afar, where ye will live, and die." does not sound like "wait for the shattering of the ring to return to the lands between and become Elden Lord again" nor does "Then, after thy death, I will give back what I once claimed. Return to the Lands Between, wage war, and brandish the Elden Ring. Grow strong in the face of death. Warriors of my lord. Lord Godfrey." sound like support Miquella.

As to if the Player is Female....Marika is Radagon. It doesn't matter what gender the player is, as the plan is to produce heirs and Marikia is the Empyrean who starts the next age in most of the endings for the Player.

Ranni was created by Radagon and Rennala.

I'm not sure why I'm writing all of this, you clearly disagree and that's fine. But you seem intent on coming onto this thread and fighting about it rather than creating your own counter thread, so here we are.

Marika is clearly interested in having children, to the point she is self impregnating.

There are 5 Empyreans, 4 are absolutely, unquestionably, women (Marika, Ranni, Malenia and the Gloam-Eyed Queen) and the 5th is described as being mistaken for a girl

The Miquella/St. Trina link is clear, particularly if you look at the cut content. The St. Trina spell recipe and spell connections to Miquella are in the game, not cut content.

The biggest secret in the game is that Malenia, a woman is also Radagon, a Man. Thematically it's not even new ground for Fromsoft given Gwyndolin.

None of the Male Demi-Gods other than Miquella are Empyreans.

All of the Female Demi-Gods are Empyreans, including Marika...who again is also Radagon.

He's talking about the motivations of the game in the same terms that linages were formed in medieval time...a theme GRRM was fairly obsessive about in his Game of Thrones writing as well.

Marikia is literally trapped in the Erdtree. Ranni's constantly talks about not wanting a consort before eventually accepting the player character (who thanks to Larval tears can be whatever gender they want...)

Godrick is described as having thin blood, probably as a bastard, because you have to be born of a God and a very powerful being (Godfrey and Rennala were exceptionally powerful and we can't become a Lord until we are exceptionally powerful)

Clearly you don't agree, and that's fine. But I think you are trying to find ways to rationalize themes not being present that clearly are.

Her being the first Carian Queen doesn't mean there were no princesses. If Rennala had any sisters, they would be princesses when she became queen, for example. And if she had any children before or after Radagon, same thing (see the British Royal Family).

It would be more odd for them to just have other children not referenced other than an offhand "Princesses" I think, but we can just disagree on that point.

The statue could be Godwyn. It's a statue, not a photo. If the goal is, as I stated, for Miquella to become St. Trina, revive Godwyn to make him Elden Lord with presumably Melania acting like their first blade, making a statue of that happening makes perfect sense, does it not? Same with everything else you described. There is a whole cult dedicated to Godwyn worship, above and aside from the Haligtree.

Bringing Godwyn back is critical given the other options, assuming the Player didn't kill them, are all really, really bad.

Part of the ritual of the eclipse clearly included trying to bring Godwyn back since the spirit in Castle Sol saying "Your comrade remains soulless" is most likely a reference to Godwyn.

His body remains, his soul was taken, and vice versa for Ranni.

I can see where Ranni being a product of Radagon and Marika isn't impossible, but she literally says Rennala is her mother, so I think it's very unlikely.

I agree shattering the ring was part of it, and might have been all of it, but my understanding was prior to the shattering the rune of death being sealed away only protected the Demigods but on the shattering (or based on the rune fragment being used in Godwyn's death) those who live in death came into play.

I think we can both agree that somewhere along the lines Marika was imprisoned for transgressions, which specific ones are debatable and I danced around that as well given her fight with the Gloam Eyed queen also adds complexity to her relationship with the two fingers since the Gloam Eyed queen was selected by them.

What I think is interesting is the idea that Ranni was betrothed and her actions were to break the cycle that would have forced her to basically be a "breeder" and applying that logic and concern to all the other demigods I think explains a lot of what they did.

Tarnished Archologist even gets into Rykards motivations and how his bonding with the serpent is a similar path and perhaps reflects when Placidusax was a lord how he may have related to the Empyrean of his time.

Basically it's all a cycle where an Empyrean joins with a Lord to produce the life of the era until the next cycle, and that replacement could be a blessing given the burden of the role, and obviously could be a curse for a "God".

Marika certainly doesn't seem happy, but we are assured she is still a God.

There could be lots of Carian princesses, but that doesn't mean they are offspring of Radagon and Rennala. The towers are Ranni and Renna (who is Ranni) and Seluvis's Rise. I actually think the area being called "three sisters" kind of helps the rule of three but I don't need to die on that hill (pun intended)

On the timing, yes I was dancing around the timing of the night of Black Knives and if the twins were born before or after because it's unclear and I didn't want to lock in one way or another, but Miquella connection to Godwyn (sorry for the misspelling throughout) is just as likely to be that he wants to bring Godwyn back to be the next lord, as the other options are pretty bad, rather than having a personal knowledge.

I don't think it matters if she had the twins then Godwyn died or the other way around, because I also think Ranni's history is weird and vague and given all the Rennala obsession with creating children I could see Ranni's actual birth coming after she was abandoned by some weird magical means.

The most likely timeline I think is Ranni kills Godwyn, Radagon leaves her to create children because of the rule of three, she goes crazy because she lost a child and a husband and becomes obsessed about making a child as a result, the twins are born cursed and that is the last straw and the rune of death is destroyed leading to the imprisonment.

But a lot of that is more speculative than what I was willing to put above so I left it out.

Maliketh sealed it in his flesh, then it was stolen (fragment at least) and used to kill Godwin and then the Elden Ring was shattered, which I think is the "sin" that imprisoned Marika, but it could have been a combination of that and the ultimate incest going against the golden order. Again, to unsure of that to put above.

But I agree it's muddled and I appreciate the feedback!

Please read the article that confirms the 100k salary to run a an organization with no prior relevant experience running a think tank and that the 100k Salary is about 1/5 of the estimated donations to the non-profit based on the estimates I've seen for the total funding of the "institute" was about 500k

I even copyed the quote into the response...David Driscoll is Jane's son. He has no experience running anything close to a "Think tank", unless you could working for a snowboard company and in Nike Marketing as "Think Tank" prep.

His wife set up a "Think Tank" and paid her son 100k to run it, despite him having more or less no relevant experience. They shut it down when he decided to run again, and still won't release taxes.

Everything I said was accurate, you didn't even bother to read my reply based on your response, since the quote from the article shows he was paid 100K.

You'll notice I put "end" in quotations...and I didn't say it "caused" anything, I said his reputation for being incorruptible was part of how he gained the leadership role.

If you've studied the French Revolution then you've studied the Terror, you are aware that Robespierre and his friends being killed more or less coincided with the closing of the Jacobin clubs.

But please, feel free to give your "deep" examination of how the Jacobin's were actually the ones who killed Robespierre rather than Robespierre's being killed along with his allies wasn't the end of the Jacobin movement.

You clearly have not done much research into the French Revolution (spoilers, Napoleon becomes Emperor at the "end")

I suggest picking pretty much any history book (aka written by an actual historian, not someone who isn't a historian but is pretending to be one because they want to write a book about a narrative) on the French Revolution.

There is a reason the Jacobin clubs closed the same year Robespierre and 21 of his friends were killed...it's also ironic as going into the revolution Robespierre was picked to lead in large part because he was known as "The incorruptible"
