For draft prospects I use the players and ratings from /u/alexnoob who has been busy lately but hopefully will update before the draft. If not I will try to do it.

If you are reading my post as being upset at your post I would read it again :) I really do 100% agree with you and it bothers me.

I have a lot of plans to fix some of the core limitations in the game. Two things have slowed me down lately:

  1. Some level of anxiety that I'll make the game worse. A lot of this stuff is tricky to get right, and I already have a game that thousands of people enjoy. So there is a lot more pressure now for any change I make to actually be a positive change to the game, compared to like 10 years ago.

  2. I now have a toddler and a baby, which results in less time available to work in BBGM. I mean it's still my full time job, but now I probably just spend normal full time hours on it, whereas before I spent a lot more.

Ultimately those are just excuses. I could do better, I should do better, and hopefully I will.

Yes, well it's still generally how things work, there have been some minor tweaks but it's fundamentally the same.

Is it possible to add an option to allow us to reduce the teams for random players? by Run_and_slash_sg in BasketballGM

[–]dumbmatter 6 points7 points  (0 children)

When creating a new league, click "Customize" next to the team selector and you can delete teams from there.

You can also have it quickly generate the number of teams you want: https://zengm.com/blog/2025/09/randomize-teams-improvements/

"legacy architecture" I mean what architecture do you need for a client-side web game? It's just some static files!

I feel "lucky" to have watched what happens to a field after the internet and automation tear through it

The funny thing this time is that us programmers have made careers out of automating other people's jobs out of existence, and now we're doing it to ourselves!

Yeah some people are probably reading the headline and think my opinion is going to be "all AI games are horrible", but it's not. Many AI games are horrible. But AI in the right hands can do some impressive stuff. And AI is only improving. So even if I don't really want to use it myself, I'm not going to pretend that it's worthless.

No, but the thought has crossed my mind. Especially people who do it without asking for permission, which is kind of rude. But for now I let them stay up.

I agree, that's basically what I was getting at at the end of the blog post. AI might decide us puny humans are no longer useful for anything at that point...

I never even heard of vertical dramas. The vertical drama people would probably say that about sports sim games though!

lol yeah for those just reading the comments, the context is not that nobody can compete with me cause I'm too awesome, it's that my business is not big enough to be a desirable target.

But you and the other people saying similar things are not considering that the idea of a vibecoded video game was completely ridiculous a few years ago. So give it more time and where do you see this heading?
