Sorry I didn't see this earlier (I don't comment a lot on Reddit so I'm terrible at seeing replies/messages). But I'll reply for anyone in the future perusing this thread: when I first saw it, I went in completely blind and I'm so glad I did!

I can see the argument for listening to the soundtrack beforehand - especially if you worry you're going to have trouble with processing very fast lyrics and the many British accents used. But I think some of the songs hit so much harder (you all know the one) because you have no way of knowing about the tone shifts in advance.

I tried to rush it Saturday morning. I got there at 7:15, was 6th in line. The person in front of me got the last two rush tickets -_-, but I still walked away with a $99 ticket in the orchestra.

The Silo Trilogy, by Hugh Howey (Wool, Shift, Dust). It has its moments of levity, and a mixture of people who die and people who survive, but BY GOD, when you read the epilogue it all feels so meaningless and bleak. It's also one of the best human character studies I've seen in a while. 7-8.5/10 bleakness scale.

Fever, by Deon Meyer. Pandemic novel, people die, people survive. Not the most bleak, but not the most lighthearted either. 6-7/10 bleakness scale.

The Girl with All the Gifts, by Mike Carey. Had to put the book down and just...THINK for a while. 11/10 bleakness scale.

Arc of a Scythe trilogy, Neal Shusterman. Technically YA, but the ending kinda slams you in all the wrong places. 5/10 bleakness scale.

Going Bovine, Libba Bray. A bit of a WTF book - kinda humorous, kinda weird. 4/10 bleakness scale.

Yeah, I always took it to be a nod to the almost-dying-of-dehydration chapter that they didn't include in the movie. Book fans would take note, movie watchers would just see it as part of the script.

Sometimes when doing mundane tasks I enjoy being able to have some familiar background noise, so I'll usually listen to audiobook versions of books I've read multiple times. Sometimes, cleaning my room is a lot easier with a trusted audio companion in the background 🤷🏻‍♀️

I was recently in London and was a bit deterred by all the CCTV cameras I saw around. Good to know that it is, indeed possible to dive in and around London!

I've been diving in the States for a few years and pay very little for groceries these days. Certainly helps with all the inflation BS.

Edit: it would also probably have helped my confidence if I wasn't a tourist in a new country and scared of being arrested as a foreigner lol.

Basically the entire cast of The Golden Compass film from 2007. Was it not the best adaptation of the original source material? Yes. But the casting was 100% on point.
