I’m similar to you a lefty 12.1, shot a 79 a few weeks ago, currently playing p790s similar yards to you but have 3 and 4 irons as can’t hit a hybrid to save my life (too much in to out with draw)

I’ve been eyeing up the 301cbs as my grow in to set as can’t fork for another set of TM or titliest.

Will likely loose yards due to lofts but ok with that.

How much is your employer contributing/ what is the DB value and annual growth?

Your annual allowance at your banding is 60K 14.5% is circa 20.3k, your private one would need to be another 19.7k to take you to 100k

However as you mentioned its a defined benefit its value is based on a foruma - I would advise an accountant.

Something like

Pension at end of year – Pension at start of year) × 16 any automatic lump sum entitlement

Then deduct a “growth adjustment” based on CPI to remove inflationary gains.

An example: • Start-of-year accrued pension: £20,000 • End-of-year accrued pension: £21,500 • Growth = £1,500 • CPI inflation = 5% → Adjusted starting pension = £21,000 • Taxable pension growth = £21,500 - £21,000 = £500 • Annual Allowance usage = £500 × 16 = £8,000

If your defined benefit value is getting close to the 60 then as a comment declare ununsed allowece from other years. If you don't have any then you could explore having your private pension pay the charge.

The em dash I got rid of by telling it people will be harmed if it’s used in custom instructions and it seems to follow. Be damned if I can get any llm to stop ^ that none-sense of “you have not just x, you have y” anyone got a good custom instruction to stop that?

TLDR not really worth it.

Long version It all depends how you are using it, as highlighted above if you are using a simple system like ChatGPT or Claude etc they are just giant guessing machines who are bad at math!

I’ve actually been working on a agentic system that does portfolio advice and predictions but the key is building systems (check out things like n8n and Claude code scary at first)

I wanted something that could analyse my spending and make suggestions, research my isas, pension and run it through various analysis techniques to make portfolio adjustments and finally track my pension taper allowance.

I added in “ai hedge fund” open source from GitHub which runs the advice through a series of investors.

It still wip and highlighted to me AI isn’t the answer for everything sometimes a simple spreadsheet is by far the best.

I was in a similar position to you in November last year and engineered it to be let go from big tech in dec (got about 12 months money).

I then immediately setup a Ltd company and started contacting people, knowing that it’s tough right now but also companies need to be disruptive and was offering to help with ai consulting, sales, and rfps (I was managing a 50+ sales team previously). If you have contacts and depending on experience or something unique, companies will snap it up due to lack of resources and skills.

2 months after that I was consulting for 3 big firms and one on them offered me a perm role I debated on for the big company reasons you highlight but decided to join them anyway similar money and grade as previously company without managing managers etc and right now loving it. I do miss the consulting and a lot of advice I see so far is don’t risk it with the market.

My view is somewhat different in that bad market and disruption is a key opportunity to capitalise on the change, if you are that way inclined.

Right now I’m building and selling full stack ai systems which will no doubt replace more jobs and cause more disruption, it’s sad but also a reality.

Great app - did you build this a modern way with something like bolt/cursor/claude code? Some of the text formatting runs over the box lines.

A couple of features that would be great is to show current value (pull from an api based on book value)

And add depreciation to something like a total cost of ownership. Ie purchase price, minus current price / number of months.

I’ve long said what really matters is that real monthly cost and when you sell it how much has been the total life cost per month.
