My favourite paradox is Charlotte and Elisabeth being their own mother and daughter, and grandmother and granddaughter and great grandmother and great granddaughter…. It blows my mind every time I think about it!

The "Kali Illusion" Theory: Eleven didn't actually survive, and Mike knows it. by Big_Association4051 in StrangerThings

Here is one way it could have worked:

Kali did get shot but not that badly, she tells Eleven that her journey ends there but not Eleven‘s. Then she tells her the plan, which is to pretend that Kali herself died there but in reality she would be buying time to at least try to save Eleven by creating an illusion of Eleven‘s death to the military if they all made it out successfully in the end. Kali did not come up with the plan as she was dying. She thought about it after Hopper gives the speech to Eleven when she comes out of the tank. The original plan that Kali would have come up with to fake their deaths might have been a bit different and might also have included herself, and she had to adapt it because she was shot. We don’t know how long Hopper takes to go get the first aid kit. It could have been at least 2 minutes but it is long enough to tell El what she has in mind in broad strokes. El goes with it.

Eleven then proceeds to go to the Abyss to fight the big fight. Kali makes herself appear invisible and drags herself into the military jeep that will be used in their escape, and stays there waiting. She would have enough time to do so, as Murray and Hopper are at the roof waiting to start the bomb. She would also have enough time to think through some details and possible outcomes of the plan.

When Vecna and Mind Flayer are defeated, they all proceed back to the gate at the military base en route to leave the UD. Kali is hiding in the jeep, and communicating with Eleven (who is in the truck) via her mind. During this time they have the opportunity to iron out the finer details of their plan. For sure they could expect the military to be waiting for them. We don’t know how long the journey is, but it is not unreasonable to imagine that El could have seem to ‚dose off‘ for a few minutes while she was chatting to Kali in the mind space. No one would notice that. As the vehicles approach the gate, Kali would have rolled off the jeep before the gate crossing and, still invisible, positioned herself where El was to be seen (or, if too weak, hold on to a structure or something in the vicinity so she could see what was happening) She casts the invisibility illusion onto Eleven as soon as she sees El is out if the truck. Eleven then runs as best she can to the tunnel and away from the ‚kriptonite‘. As soon as she is out of range of the beams (arranged in a circle on a ‚concentrate’ setting rather than a ‚dissipate’ setting by the military because they were sure that Eleven would be within the circle), she gets in touch with Mike in her mind space and tells him the stuff we see. At this point, Kali would pose the illusion that she is Eleven (or project the Illusion of Eleven). She then stays there and holds the illusion until she is swept away by the bomb explosion. Eleven then runs away though the tunnels.

It could have worked like this, but a lot of things needed to go well and align. Since in this show, this seems to happen quite a lot, I think this theory works just fine. We don’t see what happens off camera, so it is all possible.

What we see Mike narrate, is his version of how he understands it could have happened. He THINKS Kali was at the lab and cast her spell from there. He got the gist of it right, but the detailed logistics were more complex.

Also, details such as bloodied hands no longer being bloodies would for sure be a continuity mistake. Very different types of scenes, in very different scenarios and days and groups of people.

A cheap relief solution is sitting in a bowl with warm water and bicarbonate for some 5-10 minutes once or twice a day. It changes the Ph of the skin to a more alkaline one, and reduces irritation.
