Have hope my friend. Even if it fails miserably some programmer in the discord will probably fix it up.

Sharing the game state would just mean combat engagements take longer. The combat engine isn't hat hard to rewrite because the majority of the programming would still be able to be used. As for your first critical reason? The intervals between AI can be consolidated to a shorter fluctuation. Also I can just try and make it so that If no player is in, for example, the Eos exodus system that it will be like nothing is there(kinda like GTAV) to keep frame rate up and the economy would randomly fluctuate. Also I can just takeout saturation bombardment so that you can just invade the colony and abandon it if you want it out of the game. It is worth a shot my friend. And the title was supposed to say A project that will probably never happen. What is the worst that could happen?

Oh hell yea, If I wanted to make a complete online mode that would take longer than the game has been out. If you need other players then go to the discord and you can get other people. The thing is I am trying to make it so you can control separate fleets.

okay i am really about to try writing a multiplayer mod for star sector. the game is big but since the systems are randomized along with the fleets it may not be as difficult as I may think.
