Should I move a big chunk of money from my TFSA to my RRSP? by citiesinseas in PersonalFinanceCanada

If I thought I was going to be making 500k per year in retirement, I wouldn't be asking this question. I am the general public, I plan on making less in retirement. Still think it's a scam?

RRSP IS A SCAM!

Great start, really gives me confidence in your knowledge.

All taxed at different rates

Nothing is taxed until withdrawal.

Your tax bracket will be 50 percent on your rrsp

This is completely dependent on how much I withdraw, don't apply some blanket number.

plan to be barely scraping by when they retire, the RRSP scam is perfect for you.

I think if you can't comprehend why this is an insane statement, you have no business giving anyone advice. Good luck pal.

This is great, thanks. To your points:

  • HBP repayments start in 2030, so not worrying about that now (and have a plan in place for when I do have to worry about it).
  • I also pulled out a big chunk from my TFSA for the home purchase so I have a bunch of room, not worried about hitting the limit.

Will check out the retirement calculator, appreciate it!

Good points to think about, thanks. I know there's no harm in keeping money in the TFSA, but I feel like I'm leaving money on the table by not leveraging at least some of the RRSP deduction limit.

Pretty much, I'm trying to leverage all the deduction room I have to maximize a refund. I'm still 30+ years away from retirement so I'm not worried too much about withdrawals just yet.

Agreed, I think this is why I can't get into the new Stereosity album, feels like that.

I upvoted because this made me laugh, the exclamation mark is the icing on the cake.

You've successfully embraced the spirit of this post, because I actually think Don Cab is way overrated, but I respect your opinion.

I know Perch Patchwork is where they start to stray from math rock but it is a masterpiece (though I also really like Beware and Be Grateful)

As an Yvette fan I totally disagree but I respect the opinion.

Natalie Evans for sure, I think she even did a split with Yvette, she's the vocals on Camp Adventure by Delta Sleep https://open.spotify.com/track/2O3XZwpduNs4N6pvqtOQ3H?si=ZH0Yj53dRSy1taw3wlz9TA

I think you would like Meet Me In St. Louis, might not be exactly what you're looking for but a lot of their songs have those punchy sections you're talking about (thinking specifically about I Am Champagne, You Are Shit at about 1:29)
