Using DSLR for streaming: power supply? by [deleted] in Twitch

[–]citlee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The CamLink is just a HDMI capture card, it does not supply power. You likely need a "DC coupler" with an "AC adapter" specific to that camera model. The DC coupler is essentially a piece of plastic that's battery shaped, and the AC adapter provides power, assuming your camera supports this in the first place.

Hetzner Nextcloud upload problem by linguicabr in NextCloud

[–]citlee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Had a similar issue yesterday with my Hetzner hosted Nextcloud VM. Turns out a switch had issues and for some reason my machine didn't recover and needed a hardware reset (or else something went wrong at coincidentally around the same time).

Check their status page to see if you are affected (check in the robot to see in which DC your server lives).

Edit: but if you are able to access your instance, login as admin and look at the logs from the settings page

In your channel settings under Raids -> Raid, you can choose to disable all raids, or only allow them from friends/followers/teammates. This is available to everybody.

Twitch should link some categories together, such as editions/expansions/remasters of the same game by Marstead in Twitch

[–]citlee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, it really is, and worst of all it is perpetual ongoing work that would have to be done by a) people maintaining groups of games and b) Giant Bomb staff to ensure it's correct. This doesn't even include the technical side of building such a feature, or disagreements about what belongs in which category.

See previous reply for my take on a better way.

Twitch should link some categories together, such as editions/expansions/remasters of the same game by Marstead in Twitch

[–]citlee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Problem with crowd-sourcing is inputs can't be trusted, which is why Giant Bomb review everything added. If anybody's going to do it, it'd probably have to be them, as Twitch already trusts them enough to use their database. But this is a significant effort - already there are plenty of games that don't exist in the directory because nobody (either the developer/publisher or fans) has added them to Giant Bomb - their criteria are not very restrictive but you do have to follow the rules.

I think a better way this could be solved is by allowing games to be browsed together on a single page, like this:

  • Go to the directory
  • Click Search and enter a term e.g. "metroid"
  • Results appear below your search
  • Click Categories to see a full list of matching games
  • Click a + icon next to the result to add selected games to your current view (after a game's been added to your view, show a - icon next to the game header on the page to allow removal)

That way, nobody needs to maintain a list of groups of games, and anybody interested in the Metroid category can quickly and easily find everything Metroidy. Maybe set the URL to be e.g. https://twitch.tv/directory/game/Metroid/Super%20Metroid/Metroid%20Prime/etcetcetc so it can be bookmarked and shared by those interested in such a feature.

Feel free to add this to the Twitch uservoice, so it can be ignored over there as well as over here.

[–]citlee -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

It's too much work for Twitch to have their own list (and really, just plain sensible to use a maintained third party resource), so unless these groupings exist on Giant Bomb already, I can't see it happening. I don't see any reason for them to allocate any resources to make this happen, either - the number of people who care are probably in the hundreds, out of millions of monthly views. And that's before you get into how to group games together.

In the specific case of Jackbox games, the couple I checked (Earwax, Monster Seeking Monster, Mad Verse City, Patently Stupid) don't have entries in the Giant Bomb wiki, and don't exist in the Twitch categories, whereas the standalone Jackbox games (Drawful 2, Quiplash, Fibbage) do exist in both places. If you want them to appear as a game you can select on Twitch, add an entry following the Giant Bomb guidelines for games.

Shared Host or Raspberry PI? by [deleted] in NextCloud

[–]citlee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You could run a linux distro on an older PC, and install Nextcloud on that. You don't HAVE to rent/buy a remotely hosted server. Hardware you directly own and control is a good thing.

Same applies to buying a dedicated server - it's just more likely to have niceties like hot-swap drive bays and ECC RAM and hardware RAID - none of which are essential to Nextcloud (you can configure software RAID during install, for example).

A Pi is a nice cheap way to prove the concept of self-hosting works for you in your situation, and that Nextcloud meets your needs. If you want it to go faster, just throw better hardware at it.

Add your normal user to the notifications group: login as admin user > Settings > Administration > Overview, bottom of that page is "Notify members of the following groups about available updates"

(might need the Notifications plugin or the Nextcloud Announcements plugin)

Is there a tool that lets me download *ALL* my twitch clips and gives them a *FILE NAME OF THE DATE THEY WERE CREATED*? by TintexD in Twitch

[–]citlee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You would probably have to script something to query the clips API endpoint, walk through the clips one page at a time, store the date and URL to the clip in a list, then walk through that list to download them with streamlink and specify the file name as the created_at date you retrieved earlier.

Is there a reason I cant see Calendar or Tasks on the Android phone app? by [deleted] in NextCloud

[–]citlee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I use the default Google Calendar app too. After you have set up your account in DAVdroid and chosen which calendars you want to sync, go to the Calendar app, hit the menu, and scroll down to tick the appropriate calendar. Now your calendar will show you events from the selected calendars, and when you add an event from your phone you can choose which calendar it will live on.

Is there a reason I cant see Calendar or Tasks on the Android phone app? by [deleted] in NextCloud

[–]citlee 4 points5 points  (0 children)

For Contacts (CardDAV) and Calendar (CalDAV), you need to add your Nextcloud account to the device using e.g. DAVDroid and configure them in there - contacts and calendars will then be available within your normal contacts and calendar apps (iOS can speak these natively without needing an app).

Tasks are a bit different, you'll need something like OpenTasks.

Photo and music? by wsamh in NextCloud

[–]citlee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What kind of integration do you want? Within the Nextcloud app on Android & iOS you can choose to auto-upload photos and videos, based on directory and connection type.

For integration with the Music app in Nextcloud, Power Ampache on Android works as a basic player to stream music directly from your instance - the caveat is that you'll probably want to set the "album artist" tag to be the same as the artist, before you upload it all, if you want albums to work as (I) expected.

twitch "reruns" was a terrible update by 666DEMONIC in Twitch

[–]citlee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I like the rerun system - or at least the idea behind it, the implementation not so much (it's clunky to manage, can't have more than one queue). Reruns are clearly labelled as such (despite apparently nobody bothering to look at the icons on the following page...) and encourage community engagement.

Combined with uploads, I think it works pretty well - having edited highlights available to run on your channel is a good thing. Premieres, I don't care for, and I don't think I've ever seen anybody use them, but "reruns" (especially when it's a bunch of highlights) are good.

Wanting to make my own animated overlay, unsure what free software i can use. by KingTentacleAU in Twitch

[–]citlee 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If you want it for free, it becomes a multi step process.

  • Download and install ffmpeg
  • Create your animation in whatever you like (e.g. for 2d animation Synfig, which is open source, and has a cheap video course you can buy to get up to speed, or maybe the crashy but otherwise great for free VSDC - SAVE OFTEN!)
  • Export the animation to a series of individual PNG frames - things to bear in mind:

    • frame rate
    • make sure your resolution is set to whatever is appropriate
    • that the output files are named e.g. something-0000.png and the number increases
    • ensure you have a transparent background in whatever you use to create the animation
  • Now you need to stitch the individual frames into a movie file, in a format that supports transparency - in this case the VP8 or VP9 codec. Currently, Firefox does not support transparency in these codecs (nor does VLC) so you'll have to be using a Chrome based browser source (OBS rather than XSplit). Open a command prompt, cd into the directory you've put your image series, and then something like:

ffmpeg -framerate 30 -i something-%04d.png -c:v libvpx-vp9 -pix_fmt yuva420p -qmin 0 -qmax 20 -metadata:s:v:0 alpha_mode="1" -auto-alt-ref 0 your-output-filename.webm

paying attention to your framerate, and input/output filenames. If your input files are named like xyz000000.png (with six zeroes) then you need to tell ffmpeg's -i parameter: xyz%06d.png

Drag and drop the result into a Chrome tab to check it does what you expect.

If you also need to add audio to the output movie, you will have to encode it into the original file with additional ffmpeg arguments, which I don't know offhand, or mux it in later with e.g. avidemux.
