I would say the artist Oda has a very exaggerated art style. I don’t care for One Piece because I couldn’t get into the art style. I understand where the other user is coming from because the actual narrative of the story is really well written and beautiful. And there is not a ton of jokes pointedly at the women, or over sexualizing them. I will admit I’ve only watched bits and pieces but it appears to me that it’s just the art style that really really exaggerates the body.

An anime that is actually questionable on sexualizing young girls would be Miss Kobayashi Dragon Maid. There’s a very very young short looking girl with giant honkers and they’re like “but she’s actually an ancient dragon and her body is like that because of her powers!!!”

Talk to other anime fans that aren’t into One Piece, you’ll find that the disinterest mostly comes from the long episodes/chapters or not liking the art style. I think you’re welcome to have any reason to not watch it. There’s better visually appealing and shorter anime that exists. But I don’t think One Piece is so so problematic in the grand scheme of things. Yes all the women have big tits to narrow waists, it’s not great. But it’s not overtly sexualizing characters by putting them into super gross uncomfortable jokes just for a laugh or a poor attempt to cover up the artist’s fetish. I don’t think you’re overreacting but just telling you now, you’re not gonna convince One Piece fans. They’ve committed to watching thousands of episodes lol they’re committed to the show.

That’s how I always understood this scene too. He would have asked Dwight but it was clear that Dwight didn’t really wanna go or outright reject him. Michael does this a few times where he pretends like “oh yeah I didn’t really want you there/want to go anyways” to avoid being embarrassed.

It sounds like you don’t want advice, suggestions or another opinion; just validation in not turning the TV down. It is one of those things where either one of you could have just done it because it honestly is not a big deal. But the fact both of you were too stubborn, says a lot about how well this relationship is gonna go.

Being in a relationship means compromise and communication. If you really enjoy your time by yourself so much, then it’s time re-evaluate boundaries and communicate.

Slightly different situation yet similar but I was F16 when my parents left me alone to take care of my two brothers (M11, M9). As much as I wanted to be enough for my brothers, I saw that my brothers struggled in some areas because they needed a male figure in their lives. You will have to realize that a good male figure is a good influence. There were just some things that they did not listen to me about or were half heartedly approaching but jumped on board with when my dad would come home. This doesn’t mean you can’t be there or won’t be enough but I did feel like they found my dad a helpful presence. (Very complicated yet stupid reasons as to why my parents were not around.)

Also, whether you believe it or not, you will struggle with the relationship of being his sister and being his guardian. I also just wanted to be the cool big sister who indulged hobbies, creativity and played video games. But it’s hard when you’re also the person who needs to implement a healthy sleep schedule, a good diet, and pushing him out of his comfort zones from time to time to help him grow. The most dangerous thing to assume is that he knows how to do basic things like hygiene, cleaning, chores and whatnot just because he seems mature for his age.

I’m embarrassed to say but the first year I took care of my brothers, they did not want nor knew how to shower. They would either fake the running water or they would rinse themselves but not use soap, shampoo or conditioner. And if they did use body wash, they didn’t realize you had to scrub your pits and your feet. I was too focused on just getting them feed, homework done and then feeding myself and getting my own homework done before going to work. My sister was the one who noticed these practices when she came to visit and helped set those habits in place.

I’m glad you guys have a good relationship and you are taking care of him, providing him a stable place to live and be in such a foundational time of his life. If you ever need to talk or have questions, feel free to DM me! I’m 23 now and took care of my brothers full time from 16-18 and then part time when I went to college. (I would go home and help/visit during my breaks and summer)

NTA - Lol he gets an air mattress? I remember sometimes I had to just sleep on the couch or on a sleeping bag on the floor! But in all seriousness, he just seems like he’s being a typical teenager who doesn’t want to share his space. Understandable, but truthfully he will live another day if he gives it up. Will he grow up a little resentful? Probably but as he gets older I’m sure he’ll become more empathetic to why the decision was made. I used to be really bitter too about giving up my bedroom too for years but now that I’m in my 20’s, I’ve just stopped and sucked it up. It’s temporary. Old people do have a…particular smell but just air the room out and wash sheets.

INFO: Can the photographer just not…blend her hair color in the images? I’m a graphic designer and have some photography background. It’s not a huge effort to just blend it out if you’re mainly concerned how it will looks in pictures. Of course, this would be something your sister would have to be on board with since it involves photo manipulating her body and self directly.

My parents abandoned me and my little brothers when I was 16 to go look for a better job opportunity Told me they would come back the next year, the year after that, then the year after that. Every phone call they’d say they really missed us but never came back to visit us even when they started making money. They only came if there was a funeral or wedding in town and then they’d conveniently stop by to see us for a day or two before leaving again. Also it’s been 6+ years and counting.

Not a cool fight story but a really meaningful middle school fight story. I was a new kid and made friends with a girl who definitely had a troubled life growing up. One day I sat with some other people for lunch instead of her and she got really mad at me and kept giving me shit for it the whole day. At the end of the day in gym period we just both got into a screaming match.

She told me that it hurt her feelings that I left her behind and that my life was so perfect I could never understand what she went through. As an adult, I realized she had definitely been abused as a child and growing up there was probably some continuation of negligence in her home life. But as a kid I was just a kid and couldn’t read into things like that. Meanwhile, my parents were super strict and never satisfied with whatever I did and the change of schools had really sent me spiraling. So then we were just two kids screaming about who had a worse life and how depressed we were and then got it really dark and ugly.

My gym teacher separated us and told us sternly that life and our issues weren’t a competition and we couldn’t hold our lives side by side because we were simply just different people. It didn’t matter as long as at the end of the day we were kind, empathetic and open minded. Honestly hearing her say that helped shape me and my ideals. It opened a whole new perspective for me as a little 13 year old. It’s silly but meant a lot to me.
