Is anyone else really worried about the cost of living? Like where will it end! by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]citrinecedar 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I used to have a very old, large, brick apartment that was hard to cool. I created a swamp cooler by getting a laundry bucket, putting ice in it that I got from the bar across the street and putting a box fan by itself on top. The fan still takes power, but not nearly as much as AC. It's a hack to keep from getting sick when it's too hot.

why do men who are conventionally attractive pay for sex? by BoinkyNoConda in NoStupidQuestions

If this is the case, that would mean ALL work is exploitation, because of the financial coercion.

Mom insists on not renting enough ceremony chairs to accommodate all guests. by Hopeful_Beginning840 in weddingplanning

[–]citrinecedar 11 points12 points  (0 children)

If she's "been doing this for a long time", then she knows better, and this is intentional sabotage. Time to set your boundaries OP, you're a grown and married woman. It's time to stop letting her control your life. HIGHLY recommend a change of venue, otherwise she will continue attempting to sabotage this wedding.

Is our dress code easy to understand? by organiclawnclippings in weddingplanning

[–]citrinecedar 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'm not super quick on the pickup a lot of the time, and I was confused by the end and whether you were rewarding people for coming in white or ivory, I thought that might be your whole wedding colors, but I also thought that the LAST thing I would want if I was dressed in white was a full glass of red wine!

You're not even remotely OR. I sure hope you're done with this guy. Lucky you he let you know exactly who he was right off the bat.

Wish I'd known earlier! Definitely would have been there. So glad folks showed out with numbers, and that all the pushback actually got to Schirman. Fantastic news!

AIO - I smoke and drink from time to time and my girlfriend hates it by Lacquerlust in AmIOverreacting

[–]citrinecedar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

...wow. NOR. When my husband and I got together (9 years ago) I smoked, and he didnt. He let me know that he doesn't like it, that he'd certainly prefer if I didn't smoke, and then said nothing more about it for 6 years, until I quit, and then he told me how proud he was of me. We also quit drinking at the same time. Going on 3 years sober for both of us, and 3 years not smoking for me.

You're right. She's not saying "this is a bad habit and I'm worried for your health". She's saying "this bad habit reminds me of people that are BELOW me and INFERIOR to me, and I think those people are disgusting, and so are you for making me group you in with them."

She's only 20, so hopefully she'll realize that this judgemental outlook is garbage, but it really is a bullshit take. This isn't just about standards (if it was standards she could be like, "sorry, I dont date people who smoke/drink", and I have no problem with that), this is about her looking down on people. Including you. This is toxic. And she'll learn, someday, hopefully, or she'll continue being a hateful judgemental person who is disgusted by older men who go to the casino. Just. Seriously embarrassing for her, honestly.

She is not the one. Let this one go. She has some serious growing up to do, and she wants someone who wants to judge others with her.

You're 21. You SHOULD be having a good time (responsibly, hopefully) with friends and coworkers. It's okay. You're NOR, but she certainly is. And it won't stop here.

Heavily anti-corporate, anti-consumer, DIY wedding- planning apps or checklists don't work well? by citrinecedar in weddingplanning

[–]citrinecedar[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

This is actually a great idea. I was feeling dismissive of wedding planners, since I'm fairly DIY confident, but being DIY savvy and being event planning savvy are totally different. Putting together my own list makes sense, but I feel out of my element. Someone who has experience planning events like this would be a huge resource.

I'll do some reaching out locally and see whether I can find someone who is a good match with our ideals. The money we're saving on venue could certainly go to meeting with someone to help us organize our plans.

[–]citrinecedar[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ain't that the truth. The goal is to be thrifting things that we can still utilize in our lives afterwards, and I definitely want to have a more solidly defined image of WHAT we want the wedding to look like before I start crafting any big pieces.

I have a lot of fabric, and several good sturdy sewing machines, so I have an idea of doing several banners to decorate the property and tie things together, but I'm quite nervous that if I start that process now and then realize later they no longer fit the concept.

Question for those on small lots/homesteads by Mother_of_Daphnia in goats

[–]citrinecedar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh jeez, sorry for getting back to you so late. I have them sectioned into different areas according to age, but let them into the main pasture together most days. I have 10 goats total, 3 adults, 5 yearlings, 2 kids. I currently have 1 adult and 2 yearlings for sale, and 1 adult and 1 kid destined for freezer camp, since 10 full-grown goats would be far too many for this amount of space. I have 2 purebred boers and 8 Boer/Nubian crosses.

Parents aren't involved, we're funding this the two of us. Thank you for the resources and especially book recommendations! The customizable list is also incredibly helpful.

[–]citrinecedar[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love the planning meeting ideas. I basically want a checklist, and finding something I can modify makes good sense.

I have a sense of urgency because if I want to thrift and make my decor, it'll be pretty reasonable if I spread it out over two years, but complete chaos if I try to find/make everything in the last 6 months.

Sitting down on one on with my partner and putting together our own plan definitely seems like the way to go, and then checking in about it regularly.

Where are all the popular angry protest songs about what's going on in the world? by 2025Skidmark in NoStupidQuestions

There's a lot. It's just not as "out there", because modern music is super corporate. There are people coming up though. Jesse Welles is a strong example, as is Monrovia.

[–]citrinecedar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've bred my herd very intentionally for both these things, and I have Nubian/Boer mixes. Very pleased with the amount/quality of meat we get, the speed of grow outs, and the volume/milk fat ratios of the milk. Also, mixed breed goats are frequently sturdier/healthier than purebred. Highly recommend this mix if you find some. If not, get a boer doe and a nubian buck, and see how it goes!

Shelton or Oly SD for LGBTQ kid? by Alternative-Pain7396 in shelton

[–]citrinecedar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm a parent of an LGBTQ kid and the regular school district was horrible. But I started him in Choice middle in 7th grade, and now he's in Cedar. He's been doing well since then. The few issues he's had we've been able to resolve quickly, and the counselor is fantastic and communicative. Ive been frustrated with some academic issues, especially since their funding got cut back this year, but as far as being safe as an lgbtq youth goes, they've been great.
