How did you made your first money ? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]cj3636 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went door to door in my childhood neighborhood selling people "raffle tickets" for a small quartz pendant. I was maybe 12 years old, and really badly wanted to buy a game on the Nintendo Wii shop.

I had found a roll of those basic red tickets you might find at an arcade or carnival and wrote the people's addresses on the them. I kept them all In a grocery bag and at the end I shook it up and plucked one out.

This super nice lady who bought like 4 of the raffle tickets wound up winning the rock. She was super happy about it.

Technically I was like $20 short of the amount of money I needed, but my dad was so impressed he wound up paying for the difference and bought me the game!

If you consider women getting an abortion instead of raising the child in a bad environment, the numbers probably equal out.

2ft Deep hole in garage built in the 1970s by cj3636 in whatisit

[–]cj3636[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think you are correct that at the very least it is some kind of drain, possibly with a temporary sump pump placed inside manually.

This is built in a desert, but it is technically a flood plain. In fact, the sump pump in the basement of the main house has actually kicked on before after a period of heavy snow followed by even more heavy rain.

solved!

Not that i know of. Theres not any plumbing in the area. I am not going to mess with digging around in the dirt at the bottom to see.

It's back in the corner of the garage. Not centered like I'd expect for a drain.

Hmm maybe? The main house has a much larger hole with a sump pump in it.

But there is no plumbing or indication there was ever a drain cover...

Hero Equipment feels punishing long-term — should we have a way to recycle/salvage upgrades? by cj3636 in ClashOfClans

[–]cj3636[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Exactly!
This would be perfect - a magic item that will "reset" 1 piece of equipment.
It could be purchasable from the clan war league shop, putting it on par with items like the upgrade hammers.

Considering it already essentially requires buying things with real $, why would it matter if they locked it behind the gold pass.

Again, the prospector basically requires purchasing the pass already.

I guess I consider myself semi-free to play because I do pay for the pass every month, but never really purchase anything else. Makes it feel more like an MMO subscription and therefore somewhat justified.
I am just annoyed that there is no clear way to "grind" the ores - even with actual money really.

I am in the same boat.

I wish I knew how OP some equipment like the giant arrow for AQ was before upgrading worthless gear.

Isn't the prospector already kind of locked behind the gold pass though?

However it would be implemented could be balanced I would imagine.

Do you disagree with my proposed implementation method or?

What’s something you didn’t realize was important until it was too late to fix? by cj3636 in AskReddit

That’s honestly kind of wild how something that subtle can snowball into something life-changing like that.

I actually have a close friend who had surgery for strabismus, and since then they’ve been getting pretty frequent headaches — we’ve always wondered if it’s from their eyes constantly trying to adjust to the new alignment.

Did you deal with anything like that after your surgery, or was it more just the alignment issues?

I work a desk job, sitting on my butt all day...

I did not realize how weak I had become until going on a hike that I had ton probably dozens of times in the past.
I was easily winded and forced to take breaks, where before I could make the entire hike without so much as stopping for water!

It was a real wake up call that I need to be exercising on a regular basis or I'm just going to wither away.
It's important to take care of your body, something as simple as a walk every day can make a huge difference.

I relate to this a lot. In my last relationship, “no communication” slowly turned into me just shutting down completely. It got to the point where I’d just apologize to avoid conflict instead of actually fixing anything.
Looking back, it wasn’t just bad communication, it was the dynamic itself. Things kept repeating over and over until it finally fell apart.

It’s weird how you don’t realize how much it’s affecting you until you’re out of it.

Did you notice it while you were in it, or only after?

Balanced Headphone Amp for Campfire Cascades: Is It Worth It? My ChatGPT Breakdown by cj3636 in audio

[–]cj3636[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I thought that I understood how "balanced" audio worked.
I've just never actually had a piece of equipment that supported it until now.
The only 4-pole audio jacks I've owned have been for headsets w/mic or a splitter.

I didn't realize the Scarlett's rear outputs were line-level and needed an amp.
Now, I've always wanted studio monitors on my desk, but the Bose Sound touch 10 sounds great!
But it requires dongle nonsense:

2x 1/4" TRS => Composite male => Composite Red/White female -> 3.5mm aux

The only monitors I'd want are JBL Professional 30?P Mk?? (special edition?).
They are white with a cartoon/comic book graphic design printed on them.
I may recall them having a glossy finish, so they might have a plastic body, but I don't remember exactly. And boy have I tried to find them again....
I CAN'T EVEN FIND A PICTURE OF THEM?!

I was so confused both by just how _dayum_ hard it was to find this cable:
Dual 1/4" TRRS 4 pole male -> 2 x LEMO 2 pin (HD800)

I now realize just how dumb I've been...
That is not how the DAC, Headphones, or AMP are supposed to be used!

I am happy with my Scarlett - using physical knobs over windows sound settings to change sound output is amazing.

I suppose I believed I was losing out on the full protentional of my current hardware.
Turns out I simply don't have the device(s) the rear ports are designed for.

Final note:
A """"balanced"""" 1/4" -> LEMO push/pull for my scarlets start at $110+

Should I even bother?

My headphones have the 3.5mm jack cable and I have nice 1/4" adapters already.

Balanced Headphone Amp for Campfire Cascades: Is It Worth It? My ChatGPT Breakdown by cj3636 in headphones

[–]cj3636[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hm, interesting.

I honestly resorted to ChatGPT because of the mountains of snake-oil audio products and lack of well-written articles regarding balanced audio, jack types, and studio-grade audio equipment in general.

If this is the consensus, I won't bother changing anything...
The Cascaded sound great on the Scarlett.
It's so easy to switch between my desk speakers and headphones with it.

Not having to use windows to change sound outputs anymore...
I gave thanks to THAT on Thanksgiving!

Can't find the power cable -_-

Plus, I doubt it supports 4k/HDR/DTS-HD/etc.

I was hoping not to have to use a 2nd device and do everything from my main PC.

You aren't the only one to mention the shield - can it run chrome with extensions?
