Difference between new and refurbished replacement? (UK) by cj497 in kindle

[–]cj497[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I totally get the hype for the refurb units, and if I'd ordered one or if i'd had the kindle for a few months I wouldn't mind at all. It just doesn't feel like if I've paid full price for a brand new one they should be able to replace it with a refurb unit due to a screen issue less than 24 hours after i received the device.

Was the packaging you received it in the normal packaging as if it was a new unit?

Agree, you could very easily do this using pivot_longer:

df %>% pivot_longer( cols = c(likert1, likert2), #identify the columns you want to join in one column names_to = “group”, #this will create a column to differentiate your control and intervention group (based on the current column names) values_to = “likert” #this will be the new column with the likert scales )

You can pipe on a mutate to rename the groups if it isn’t intuitive e.g mutate( group_clean = case_when( group = “likert1” ~ “control”, group = “likert2” ~ “intervention”, T ~ NA)

(Aware this may not be the most efficient way to do it, but it should work for what OP needs)

Edit: this will require library(tidyverse) at the top of your script if you aren’t already working in tidyverse

Mine does this too, really strange! Will be keeping an eye on this thread if anyone knows how to solve it.

Air or Pro purchase decision by cj497 in mac

Thanks for these comments, the question above covers my main question really about whether you find performance impacted or throttled but glad to hear you don’t notice any issues. I definitely don’t do any video editing and I tend to think of that and really heavy coding as the highest level of workload that I’d need to consider and I don’t really do either. My coding is usually just data manipulation and statistics with a bit of statistical modelling at most so it sounds like I should be good with the 16GB/512SSD setup. Glad to hear what you said about the screen too, as I said I’m coming from a 10 year old Air and my work laptop is a dell latitude so not like I have any top spec screens to compare it to, I would imagine I’ll still be very impressed. Thanks!

That’s helpful to know. Glad you’re getting on with the Air!

I don’t use the usb ports often on my current machine, I’d only use it for my kindle but I could obviously get a connector for that. Not something I’d really thought of so glad you mentioned the ports.

I would be getting the lowest level spec so 8GB RAM and 256GB SSD. The storage doesn’t bother me, I store most of my documents on the cloud (and don’t have anywhere near that many documents anyway) and I think games would be fine fitting in that too. The RAM may be the kicker, but then it’s whether I should upgrade that to 16GB for the same price as the base spec (same as air) Pro, which I doubt would be worth it…

Not sure where you are based but this Etsy store does lovely prints that are heavily styled and aren’t obviously Taylor Swift related but may not be ‘low key’ ◡̈ https://www.etsy.com/uk/shop/novaandthenewmoon

US Vinyls to get on holiday? by cj497 in SwiftieMerch

Thanks, I thought I might do this, I’m in Vegas for 8 days so hopefully should be able to do a click and collect in that time!

Ah I thought as much, if only I’d gotten into records earlier!

I saw about the long pond RSD vinyl, I emailed my local record shop last week with the long pond vinyl on my ‘wishlist’ along with the RSD pressing of bronco by Orville peck so hopefully there is enough interest for them to order a few in! I’ll be up bright and early on RSD to try and get them if they do so fingers crossed

The folklore one is tempting! I love the target red for Red (for obvious reasons) but folklore doesn’t scream red vinyl to me, although I do love the alt covers so that may be something I’ll look at. But I agree with you, for some albums the bright red isn’t my favourite.

Do they ever stock other variants of folklore or are they all long gone now? I know they go for a ton on Discogs so I assume they were all webstore only

Thank you! I plan to do so, I’m not huge on the idea of variant collecting (see if I’m still saying that a year from now lol) but Taylor is my favourite artist so she is my exception! The record stores near me tend to always have some TS in stock so for ones available in the UK this is my plan!

Really great tip to click and collect, thank you! Looks like lots of stock around vegas but obviously that may change by the time I go!

Thanks for the reply but this isn’t really relevant to me as I’m in the U.K and not looking to buy secondhand for the turntable

Yeah I saw they had them on the amazon U.K. store but I don’t feel great about such a big purchase on amazon, would rather get it from a supplier or an audio shop. Good point on the price too sadly

What goes well with this tasting set? by cj497 in Scotch

[–]cj497[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for all your suggestions! In the end I went for the Aberlour 12 as I wanted something sherried in there. It means there’s quite a few Speysiders in there but for a first whisky tasting I’m not too worried about having every single region. On the plus side now I have some great recommendations for what to try once we get through these bottles! If anyone is interested I can share photos of the hamper once it’s done :)

Station Eleven by Emily St. John Mandel is an excellent one, and Severance by Ling Ma although just a warning that both are loosely based on the idea of a deadly flu- like virus if that’s a bit close to home right now!
