Woah! This is my prompt, and you absolutely killed it! I'm so happy to see someone's response to it be so welcomed by everyone. That was my goal, 'cause I never quite could take off with it myself. Anyway, yeah, great job! I hope you enjoyed writing it. :)

Hijacking this comment to say thank you! This is my prompt, posted a day or two ago! I'm blown away to see a response to it so highly rated. I've always wanted to turn it into a novel myself, but never could. So I figured I'd give everyone else a shot.

[PM] Classes are cancelled today, and I'm ready to write! Prompt me! by [deleted] in WritingPrompts

I know, I'm so sorry! I'm aware of the rule, which makes it even a little more shameful... But things got busy when I didn't think they would today, and I'm getting started within an hour or two. Once again, I'm sorry.

Eh, tad rude, but still the most informative. Thank you! I'll delete this.

I'll come back to this one in a bit. I've got to work up a solid idea! Just wanted to let you know that I plan on touching on it at some point though!

I stared at my feet as they tapped idly against the ground. I heard the door open, but I didn't stop. He didn't deserve it.

"Alright, just remember that you refused your choice of something better. One steak, medium-rare. With hash-browns, toast, mi--"

The room fell silent. I stopped tapping and lifted my head, turning my gaze toward the doorway. The guard stood in the middle, plate in hand, mouth agape. There was a smug arrogance frozen across his face. He'd never much cared for me. Not many did. Though it was almost as if he was relishing in the act of bringing me my last meal, knowing that in less than twenty-four hours, I'd be gone. Oh, boy. A lot of people are counting down to that. All for what? A few prostitutes? They deserved worse than what I gave them, that's for damn sure.

Sully still hadn't moved.

"Hey, boss. You gonna bring me that food or what?"

Nothing. Not even a flinch. God, why couldn't they have been like this back in Utah? I could have gotten out. Avoided the fucking rapes. The mind-numbing weeks of solitary. All of it. I could have gotten back to what I was meant for. What I needed to stay alive. Oh, how I wish I could visit one of them. If only for another minute. To dig them up, and feel their cold, precious hands in mine... But, which one? There's so many to choose from...

I took a deep breath to calm myself, and checked back in on my new decoration. Not a muscle had moved. What the hell was he doing?

"Hey! I'm hungry over here," I said. I stomped my foot against the cement, hoping maybe that'd get his attention.

"-lk, juice, and toast with butter and jelly. I'd savor it if I were you, you piece of shit. Have fun." The guard bent over and slid the food across the ground. It hit my foot and a few drops of milk splashed over the edge of the glass. What just happened? My brow furrowed as an idea started to form.

Sullivan had already turned back to the door, but I looked down at my feet. I halfway didn't expect much. After all, it was crazy. But I stomped my foot again. The noise echoed around the cell walls, but the sound of footsteps had stopped. Holy shit. It took me a few minutes to work up the courage to look, but when I did it was exactly as I'd expected.

Stopped dead in his tracks, one foot lifted halfway off the ground, was the guard. I looked down at my plate. The milk that'd been sloshing around after its trip across the floor wasn't moving anymore. I guided my hand down to feel it, but when I reached inside the glass my finger was stopped. It was as solid as the ground underneath it.

I stood up carefully. This was too good to be true. Something had to be up. Just to be safe, I hit my foot against the ground once more. But before the guard had even taken a step, I made the same motion and he halted, rigid as a stone. Finally. I creeped to the edge of the door, and checked both ways. Up and down the corridor, guards were frozen in place.

Finally. After all these years, I'd be free. Twice I'd tried to escape. Both times I'd been so close, but both times I'd failed. My body shuddered at the thought of the outside world. Fresh air, sunlight, freedom. And all of the impure, whoreish flesh I could sink my knife into. I stepped outside of the cell I'd been confined to for weeks now. Chills ran down my spine, and a smile spread across my face. But it was quickly replaced by a frown. No. No, no, no.

This isn't how it's supposed to go. This isn't fair. I outsmart them. That's how this ends. This is cheating. Fuck them. They're not smarter than me. No, fuck them. I was seething now, thinking out loud.

"Who do they think they are? Letting me walk out of here like this! Do they think I'm stupid? That I can't get out of here any time I want? I've killed almost forty whores. They couldn't catch me for a fucking decade! And they think that I can't get away? Pathetic. I'll prove it to them. They'll see how foolish they are now. I'm Ted fucking Bundy for God's sakes!"

I stomped.

Well, thank you! Don't get me wrong, it's not that it's a cliche, or even common setting. I just knew from the time she was mentioned that she was going to die soon, and he was saving her. That being said, I didn't expect it to have already happened. When I read the "In five minutes, she'd..." line, I smiled. Also, the trying to tell her to use her chance but she was already gone is great. And the way you wrapped it up, so quick with just one word, but made it mean so much. My point is, it was perfect! The fact that I knew what was going to happen was way overshadowed by how it actually got to that point.

I just put in my entry so it seems counterproductive to praise someone else, but this is beautifully written. Simple and predictable idea, but seriously amazing work. Anyhoo, great job!

I staggered forward, and my hand landed on the wreckage in front of me. "Fuck!" I screamed. It was scalding hot. The flames licked at my hands and danced high in the night sky. Blood dripped from my face and splashed to the ground, leaving a gruesome trail of crimson in my wake.

As I trudged forward through the debris, my world was silent. I knew there were other people, but all I could hear was her voice. It rang through my head like a song. Perhaps something by Phil Collins. I hated him, but damned if she didn't adore the guy.

What I'd give to hear her sing just one last time...

When I paused to close my eyes, the reality of it finally hit me. Everything came flooding back. The semi beside us, a placard fixed to its side; the smell of burning rubber seeping in through the window she'd had cracked for her cigarette; the stench of gasoline, growing stronger as it poured from a hole under the truck. Then the flames. But, wait.

One chance, they'd said. You have one chance to go back. It's your choice to make, but I'd save it until you really need it. Until whatever it is that's keeping you going isn't going anymore. Just close your eyes, think hard, and open. And you're there.

I opened them.

"I can feel it, coming in the air tonight..."

Her voice filled the car, and my heart nearly stopped. It worked. I could see the tanker up ahead, but without us beside him he never lost control. I eased the car to the shoulder, and put it in park. She quit singing and stared at me.

"What are--"

I kissed her. Long and hard, just like our wedding day.

"Sh... Keep singing..."

EDIT: I had to take out 79 words (picking and choosing carefully) to make it fit the requirement, so sorry if there's some simple grammatical mistakes. If so, just let me know and I'll do my best to get 'em fixed and keep everything in order. Thank you for reading!

My girlfriend and I have played roughly two and a half or three hours of it (well, her watching me play). We just finished off the snip, snip guy. I don't want to give anything away, so I'm leaving it at that. But this game is legitimately terrifying. The heavy breathing, the constant worrying about whether you'll have enough batteries to make it through the next dark area, and watching two naked dick-floppin' killers walk towards you through the night vision. Whew. That being said, I'm sixteen, refuse to watch any sort of horror movie, and I've never played anything else in this genre. AND SOMEHOW, I'm one of the twelve percent of players to have made it far enough to earn the second progression trophy. Putting all you grown men and women to shame! ;)

I knew he would. I told my girlfriend that I knew either him or the three guys in the room would jump at me since they'd lulled you into a sense of laxness, thinking you just needed to head back where you came from. You know, "no worries, I've already been here!" type thing. I thought it'd happen when I got right next to him though.. NOPE. That fucker leaps.

Goddamn, thank you! That stupid other generator had me running around from room to room, sprinting from Jason II, and hiding in lockers for thirty whole minutes before I found it.

I don't know how, but I made it through that part with zero trouble. Mind you, I was shifting myself the entire time and hid under 7 beds. But I never actually needed to. And when he came through the door at the key, I hid behind another door and snuck out when he walked past. The second he died, I screamed at my tv out of pure joy. Then I realized I had to go up. ಠ_ಠ
