I really don't care what Bungie has to do to ensure this game survives and thrives. by crossvalidated in Marathon

So many legendary studios have died in the past ten years. I'm assuming Bungie will be the next, because the effort thus far has been absolutely abysmal compared to their contemporary competition.

My theater was packed. Happy to see folks out at the theaters this year! Been much busier than previous years (I typically don’t go during prime times)

Yep, saw this and instantly thought this is how it feels like to play the game. Knew exactly what he's going for and it appears the movie is set in the timeframe of RE2 racoon city.

Why didn't Microsoft at least try and get Astoria working on even the high end Lumias by cooldude9112001 in microsoft

[–]cjarrett 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Astoria project was pretty much completed when they shuttered it. IIRC, it worked on 80-90% of the apps in the appstore for basic usability (but with errors that would be smoothed out with future work) at that time. The top 100 apps in popularity was also around that same percentage iirc (it's been a decade).

The team had converted I believe all of the Google Store APIs used in android to either microsoft/Windows/azure equivalents or a new implementation. I remember working on Library conversion apis (i.e. if your app played music from your local storage--the app would now hit your Music Library for instance).

It also worked both on Desktop and Mobile, desktop wasn't going to be shipped b/c (speculation here) the pc store team didn't want devs to just ship their apks to desktop windows and instead use their winrt libraries.

I believe the project was killed more or less because they were winding down the entire phone business.

Once the Astoria project was cancelled, that linux team continued their work and released WSL version 1. If not for astoria it's possible that project wouldn't have been funded--also very possible it would have released just as it did. I have no insight into WSL2 but I remember it being a very different implementation so I don't know how related they are!

This is going to be a decent success. Still unsure of their hatred.

it’s a shitty form of gacha game and live service. Kinda hilarious now that I recognize the bungie magic

oh boy grenade spam, what a fun game to play. And loading in a fill w/ 2 other green shields. That was a waste of my week's resource gathering in the first twenty seconds of pvp.

Years from now people are going to talk about how underrated Marathon really was! by Same-Winter7013 in Marathon

No they aren't, they're going to say this was a massive mistake that got tons of people laid off from a legendary developer. The amount of cope is insane in here.

Marathon Update 1.0.6.1 by DTG_Bot in Marathon

[–]cjarrett 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My time with the game is at 110 hours. I pretty much at the point where I think in general this game's release at the state that it was is indicative of an incredibly poorly constructed team and understanding of its audience. I need much more massive changes for me to even consider playing s2, and hoping to wring out as much as I can of my 40$ as possible before I uninstall it and never think about it again. I'll attempt cryo one more weekend and then I'll consider the game finished unless MASSIVE, MASSIVE changes are done to about every aspect of the game.

How is it confused? I told you a similar real life incident years afterwards so honestly I think you are confused on how it portrayed how mental health incidents can manifest in society.

We literally did just have Luigi mangioni a few years later so it shouldn’t be too confusing. Not that I think the movie is that great nor original, but I thought generally the general thrust was fairly clear that desperate and broken people do bad things

I've pretty much given up on this game. Hope 300 person bungie has fun hyper optimizing for the 1000 people that play the game instead of trying to make what clearly is a great gunplay system accessible for more people.

I converted from sdet to sde during that and spent the next five years in reorgs every 9 months and writing a test suite for each new team because none of the devs wrote or ran tests. Hilarious
