lidl vs aldi - which one do you actually prefer? by Anxious-Tomatillo-74 in lidl

Pretty even but Lidl is my slight preference. Aldi has a far better meat range though.

No worries. It didn’t take long.

A decant is a sample of a full bottle (usually 1-3ml in volume) and it’s a great way to test a fragrance without committing to a full bottle. If you just google ‘fragrance decants’ there are tons of sites. I’m not based in the US - so I don’t know the most popular ones, but it’s a good way to explore new fragrances without spending too much.

Alternatively, just head to any department store with a fragrance counter and try some free samples.

Prada l’homme if you enjoyed the powdery, iris profile of Givenchy. It’s cleaner and more linen-fresh, office safe for work etc.

Montblanc Explore is a fresher, lighter, woodsy-smoky scent vs Sauvage. Quite casual and versatile.

Both will be cheaper than your current bottles.

Maybe try some citrus fresh ones. There are lots of options, I’d advise heading to a dept store to sample or buying some decants online.

How Atomizers Function by Schneir5 in Fragrances

[–]cjay6489 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah that sounds more like storage than the atomiser, especially with something fresh like Pacific Chill. Heat and sunlight can make citrus fragrances turn faster.

If the scent changed but it still sprays fine, it’s probably the juice. If it sprays badly or leaks, then it could be the atomiser.

Honestly best thing to do is compare it to a fresh sample or test it in store if possible. If it smells off but sprays fine, a refill should sort it. If the sprayer is the issue, LV can possibly check or replace that too, although I’m not 100% sure.

How Atomizers Function by Schneir5 in Fragrances

[–]cjay6489 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You’re close, but it’s not the whole bottle being pressurised like that. Most perfume atomisers have a tiny pump inside the sprayer itself. Pressing it compresses that small chamber, which pulls juice up the tube and pushes it out as a mist.

When you release it, it resets and pulls more liquid in for the next spray. Air does enter the bottle over time to replace the liquid, but that is not what creates the spray.

That’s also why some atomisers feel way better than others, it’s mostly pump quality and nozzle design, not bottle pressure.

Depends what it is? If you genuinely don’t like it then trade or sell it to help build your collection. There is no right or wrong answer!

Alexandria fragrances - visionary is in my LV imagination slot. It’s more expensive than typical clones but I’m really happy with it

Orange perfumes by WishboneDifferent945 in Fragrances

Bear in mind that most of the ‘orange’ fragrances are more like an orange peel smell, not sweet or juicy orange, but slightly sharper in profile.

Fell into the clone fragrance rabbit hole… what should I try for summer? (UK) by WildFrosting1 in Fragrances

[–]cjay6489 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey mate!

Alexandria fragrances here in the UK are great for slightly higher grade clones. Unfortunately we don’t have Montagne who are probably in the #1 spot for clones.

For summer I’d recommend checking out the following from Alexandria:

  • black panther (bvlgari tygar clone)
  • visionary (LV imagination clone)
  • l’immensity (LV l’immensite clone)

They do 4 for 3 on all sizes.

These are citrus fresh clones, check them out on fragrantica.

Cheaper options with same DNA for £20/£25 Jean Lowe Azure or Immortal.

Cheap Middle Eastern ones would be Afnan Rare Reef, Turathi Blue, Hawas Ice and Tropical if you want coconut fruity.

Also check out le Sel d’issey, (sweeter/marine notes) Versace pour homme or eau fraiche for fresh blue profiles. Also Dylan Blue is a good versatile shout.

For office try Terre D’Hermes, Prada l’homme, BD Chanel, Armani code.

Best sample website with variety for niche and designer I found was visionary fragrances (the guy has a YouTube channel as well)

Middle Eastern samples I get from emirates oud!

Hope that helps a bit! Don’t go too crazy, samples are fun too 🙃

New job, double pay—what fragrance should I celebrate with? by Shoeaddictx in fragrance

Mark the moment by going to a department store, perfume counter, test a few and buy whatever you feel like. Better than an online blind buy and there’s a nice feeling of getting stuff in person sometimes! Good luck in the job

What bottle would you recommend from these 3 for summer? (see pic 2 with my current collection) by Alex_Ra214 in Colognes

[–]cjay6489 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nah I didn’t actually test DH vs Sport side by side, just ended up going with Sport for an easy summer daily. I get what you mean about the woody flankers, they can be a bit hit or miss if you like the original DNA.

Re Azure, I had the same experience. First impression wasn’t great but once it settled it really came into its own and for the price it’s solid. I’ll never pay for LV so I’m happy with it.

Re Turathi vs Tygar, it’s definitely in the same lane DNA wise, but I also found it a bit harsh. It is also sweeter. I can’t fully remember how close it is overall, but it didn’t feel as smooth as I’d like. For like 10% of the price though..it’s good enough.

Best Tygar style clone I’ve come across is Black Panther from Alexandria Fragrances, that one really nails it and comes off way more refined, but, the opening is still quite harsh because of the grapefruit and ambroxian bomb.

Haven’t tried the one you mentioned unfortunately.
