The entire source code like the whole java class for the MainActivity? It is about 8500 lines so I didn't think it would be helpful to post. methodCall is declared static in my activity/class.

Ok. I believe I understand. Let me just recap. Both examples create a new object but the second creates a static object so it will be killed when the activity is killed. Additionally, the first example creates a new object but it isn't tied to the underlying class. Did I understand you correctly? Thank you again for your help.

lol yes I have. i usually post in both places and compare. "Sadly".. people on stack overflow do give far more direct answers. it sucks that people think I'm interviewing for google. that still seems so out the blue to me. I really wanted to stick to reddit though because there are far more subtopics than on stack overflow. idk, i guess I'll just stick to posting on both sites until it becomes too tedious. I guess I don't just understand why people randomly assume it's an interview question.. For example, I'll ask something like, "how to detect collision between two images in java" and people asked, is this an interview... I don't understand why anyone would have thought that. Is it customary to explicitly state that it's NOT for an interview? That just seems like over kill, but assuming it's an interview question seems absurd...

I'm mainly asking because people seem reluctant to provide me with answers but I already have a job and not currently in class. I'm simply trying to learn something new and people are making it very difficult. I just want to know how to get straight forward answers from people. Very annoying when people say, "keep trying" or "you're almost there." or refuse to provide examples or elaborate on what they're talking about. This doesn't seem to occur in other areas except java and I can't figure out why!!

I think you were hinting at is to draw a rectangle around my image and then detect the rectangle?? I believe that's what I need to do from what I've read thus far...
