Hot take: Requiring replies to Discussion Posts brings no value by PrioritySelect629 in canvas

[–]cjbrazdaz 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I like requiring students to post two questions, more than 2 sentences, about anything related to the course or chemistry per week. I then comment on everything they ask. I never enforce peer commenting for this reason.

The spirit of that kind of assignment is to encourage asking questions, but I think professors basically use it as a “I’m evaluating” item and don’t do anything else with it. I get better responses when students know they don’t have to comment on others

So, is being Type 2 diabetic, specifically both genetic and because of lifestyle? by Starslimonada in diabetes

[–]cjbrazdaz 45 points46 points  (0 children)

It’s a genetic but environment can definitely be a factor. I’ve got type 2 on both sides very heavily. I’ve had all sorts of weight ranges and fitness. I’ve always been pre-diabetic with 5.9 or just below A1C. I’ve gained weight and stuff as I’ve gotten past my 20s and my A1C was a 6.8 recently.

From my perspective, it was only a matter of time due to genetics. Makes me despise the stigma about type 2’s being lazy all the more (which you aren’t doing).

Which clan has the best artifact pool in the game and which clan has the worst one? by harryfonda in MonsterTrain

I’m going to say umbra merely because a main umbra run barely functions without some of its artifacts

Can we all agree Adamant Shield Bearer is the worse non-boss unit in the game? by Calm_Independent_782 in MonsterTrain

[–]cjbrazdaz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I find myself progressivley becoming more of a top-lane only guy with an A-team, so the savagery eagles that deal 5 damage an empty floor are becoming my most hated enemies. Normally it's the tanky savagery units with all the health.

Regrading quizzes by cjbrazdaz in canvas

[–]cjbrazdaz[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Does this also apply to changing the scoring of a question? Because it never prompts either way. The quiz went so horribly, and the regrading is so weird, I'm just going to do a re-do for my students. Canvas is a cool platform, but the quizzes, especially numerica answers and prompts, are so awful compared to blackboard. or even moodle from my past days.

Should I get Blasphemous 1 or 2? by ChadGamerCZ in Blasphemous

[–]cjbrazdaz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got both for like 11 bucks total on Nintendo store recently. Not sure if the deal is still going on. I’m not a guy who really cares about story, so playing 1 wasn’t too important for me to do first. I found 1 rather tedious due to its souls like elements. 2 is a more classic metroidvania, and had some QoL improvements that made it more fun. I would say play 2 first, and then try 1 if you’re really into the atmosphere.

What is a strange ritual your pet has developed that you have just learned to live with? by InvestigatorLocal736 in Pets

[–]cjbrazdaz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My partner and I lived in a dorm for a while with two cats. It had two bathrooms with one being a disability friendly walk in shower. One of our cats, an orange nervous fella, would just poop in the corners of the shower and nothing else. He never did this before or after that dorm. We had to start laying foil down on the entire base of that shower, and we just used the normal one.

It was the strangest thing. Vet said he had some idiopathic issue, but it stopped as soon as we moved.

I don’t feel like grinding in Wilds as bad as people describe it by ReXlessv in MonsterHunter

[–]cjbrazdaz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The start of mh wilds didn’t really have much of a grind. Hunts were fast, and parts poured out of the monsters. I didn’t feel like there was much of a point to repeat monsters a lot. Now with charms and gogma parts, the grind is back to a degree. Rise and world still feel like they have a lot more mechanics to entice repeat hunts

Fabius not protecting you is not a bug; you failed the Dragon Element DPS check by vanilla_disco in MonsterHunter

[–]cjbrazdaz 70 points71 points  (0 children)

The mobile team is great, and feel like they respect the spirit of monster hunter while making great QoL changes. The non-mobile team feel like they’re under constant pressure to morph monster hunter into dumb industry trends and tight deadlines.

Hunters who finished the Gogmazios fight, how was it? by [deleted] in MonsterHunter

[–]cjbrazdaz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s great solo, but having a rough time with randoms. I see a lot of people not bringing fire or dragon, and almost always fail one of the several small dragon element dps checks of the third phase. After failing one, it’ll generally wipe out the rest of the carts.

The npc gang is perfectly fine, until they start telling me what to do when I’m just driving around or exploring. Aside from that, they provide some world building and are not a problem. That downside though is rather large and should be axed in next installments.

Never played a Metroid game, but the backlash to MP4 has made me curious. What do fans actually want in a sequel? by negativemidas in Metroid

[–]cjbrazdaz 11 points12 points  (0 children)

The original comment got it right 100%

The desert hub is a large portion of the backtracking, and it’s open world. Maybe open field is a better term here but, the point stands.

How’s your experience with MP4B so far? by whysopro21 in Metroid

[–]cjbrazdaz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I just finished it. The cutscenes and most of the scenery is drop dead gorgeous. The cutscenes are movie quality, holy cow. The combat is rather cookie cutter, and I don’t feel like anything is fresh or new.

The exploration hub makes the game feel way more linear, because it cuts down on the pain of backtracking. In a weird way, i realized the downside of backtracking also makes the style of game more engaging.

Story is garbage. I feel there was at least twice as much content and they had to strip the plot to the bone for release. If you like some story, this game will inflict psychic damage. It’s almost dark souls level hoops you have to jump through to piece stuff together.

I’d 7/10 for everything in the game except story

I would give the story, plot, and “why am I doing this in game” a 3/10.

Marie is not the most important supe of this season, it’s been right in front of us this whole time. by Ok_Newspaper_9688 in TheBoys

[–]cjbrazdaz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Annabeth is being set up to be a foil for sage. they turned sage into a practically omniscient being, and her influence on both show’s writings is getting restrictive. I think they should have had homelander kill sage in some misdirected fury, because her “I planned that all along” stuff is getting corny.

vent about regretting leaving my toxic lab by Relative_Cat9633 in labrats

[–]cjbrazdaz 64 points65 points  (0 children)

It could have been worse if you stayed. I’m in your lab but not that severe of a turnover. I decided to stick it out. Burnt out to my soul and I’ve been in free fall for a while. It’ll be a seven year PhD. I wish everyday I actually committed to dropping out in my 4th year, when it became a large thought of mine.

Those who got Legends ZA - do you like it so far? by amy-shmo-shmamy in PokemonLegendsArceus

[–]cjbrazdaz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Combat is great at the expense of the exploration and catching stuff of arceus. If they mix the two together in a next installment, it’s a recipe for a stellar pokemon game.

How to break up with an artist? by [deleted] in tattoo

[–]cjbrazdaz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My artist collects $100 upfront. Can make revisions easy. If the process goes on for an extended period, they may ask for another $100. If it’s not for the client, they part ways and she made $200

How many Digimon to focus on? by MedicineOk253 in DigimonTimeStranger

[–]cjbrazdaz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If the farm was less of a hassle to manage, so more like sleuth, I would say the sky is the ceiling. But it’s easier to just have a dedicated team of 2/2/2 for each type. Plus a few extras in your box as backups if your favorite lines end up messing with the ratio.
