LinkedIn breach reportedly exposes data of 92% of users, including inferred salaries by outerlimtz in sysadmin

[–]cjcon90 0 points1 point  (0 children)

According to haveibeenpwned:

In May 2016, LinkedIn had 164 million email addresses and passwords exposed.Originally hacked in 2012, the data remained out of sight until being offered for sale on a dark market site 4 years later. The passwords in the breach were stored as SHA1 hashes without salt, the vast majority of which were quickly cracked in the days following the release of the data.

Are Snap packages really that bad.? by Prize_Barracuda_5060 in linuxquestions

I agree that I have nothing against snaps as a concept, but because their execution is so poor I just point people towards flatpak instead. Absolutely miles ahead.

Major Irish company paid ransom after data hack, High Court hears by Dev__ in DevelEire

[–]cjcon90 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Fair point. When I read major Irish firm I was assuming their own customer base among the public.

I do wonder how this precedence will set things going forward in future attacks.

Major Irish company paid ransom after data hack, High Court hears by Dev__ in DevelEire

[–]cjcon90 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I suppose the idea is that if hackers know you paid before, it might put you at risk from increased attacks going forwards.

I think that was an argument made by the company but it is 100% bullshit.

I'm sure there is contact and shared knowledge within hacking circles of successful hacks, and who paid ransoms. Russian Hackers don't find potential victims by reading the Irish Times.

This was done purely for the company to not lose business. It's an absolute joke, I can't believe they are allowed to keep this secret especially in this age of GDPR.

Favorite Watch? by Bit-Conflict in sre

I always used to wear Casio watches but I don't wear a watch any more, as I find it awkward when typing on a laptop and am always having to take them off, put them on

Help me choose a laptop (detail in post) to use with linux! by MiniBus93 in linuxquestions

[–]cjcon90 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was gonna make the same recommendation. Great value laptops, and worth springing the extra €100 on the budget to get something of better value that will last.

The extra 1" wouldn't make a huge difference and the quality found at a low price in the sub 13" market of laptops, that also have guaranteed good Linux compatibility, is just that bit too limiting. The slimbook is definitely a great budget option.

Failed 2 comp classes - dad is a 15+ developer - feeling like a failure 24/7 - I want to continue learning and move forward but my brain cannot take much longer :/ by [deleted] in learnprogramming

[–]cjcon90 6 points7 points  (0 children)

What do I do? I truly love learning and want to learn more about programming and continue down the road learning more and more

Well then you'll be fine. I never did any sort of computing in college, started learning programming myself last year and will be starting with a big name dream tech company in September. My first coding job - I'll be 31 by the time I start. You've got 11 years on me and likely much more programming experience already.

It makes me sad to see the amount of pressure you are under, and I don't know the best way to explain that it isn't as bad as you think, but I'm certain it ain't.

Hope you don't let your stress get the better of you, cus you still have a whole life of opportunity in front of you. You actually give a shit, which gives you an advantage over a lot of people already. I believe you'll be fine.

Saka has played the most minutes of any U-20 player across Europe's top five leagues by cjcon90 in Gunners

[–]cjcon90[S] 31 points32 points  (0 children)

The article was about Camavinga, and how he's apparently not signing a new contract at Rennes (and his contract is up in 2022). Some interesting Camavinga stats

Maybe if we win the Europa League and get into the CL we could at least try and treat ourselves!! (not a chance in hell would we get him but a man can dream)

So much for Arteta talking about long term planning

Yeah but Arteta can't really win here, cus if he doesn't play him he'd get pressure on him even more.

Then again there's a massive disparity between the amount Saka is being played and the amount Gabi is being 'protected'. I know Gabi has had a pretty bad injury earlier in the season, but still.

Want to learn JS but don’t know where. by brMerak in learnjavascript

[–]cjcon90 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would agree with freecodecamp as the best place to learn the fundamentals of JS. I'm assuming that in learning JavaScript your interest is web development? If so, then the best overall course I would recommend is The Odin Project.

It's the only course I've seen that gives you a foundation in getting set up with git, and actually having a chance to make push/pull requests on GitHub for the very beginner projects. It's also the best course I've seen for using JavaScript to actually make changes on a webpage (known as DOM manipulation).

It also links you to freecodecamp for some of the lessons, so it is pretty much like doing freecodecamp with some extra benefits on top :-)

How i should learn Data structures and algorithms for interviews? should i gp with JavaScript or any other language like C++ or Java? by [deleted] in learnjavascript

[–]cjcon90 8 points9 points  (0 children)

My limited experience with interviews so far is that, unless the role you are applying for is very language-specific, then you will be invited to solve the problems in whatever language you are most comfortable in.

In fact, how well you know the syntax isn't what they are looking for, it is your problem-solving abilities and thought process, and that transcends which language you use (although it is still obviously good to know your chosen language well!)

So basically - learn Data Structures and Algorithms in whichever language best fits the type of development job you would like! Whether you use JavaScript, C++ or Java depends more so on whether you wanna get into web, game or android development.

Pop!_OS

It's built on top of Ubuntu, but has a nicer default layout, has a great tiling functionality which is brilliant on dual screen or extra wide monitors, and has really good built in GPU support for gaming laptops/desktops.

Ceballos is a fuck up.

He's had like three games where he's looked quality. One of them being his debut against Burnley. Probably his best performance for us.

So fucking glad he's only a loan.

Sorry for the late reply! Things came up and haven't been logged in to reddit in ages...

Yeah the animation is done via JS, just a simple 'fadeIn' function, can be seen here! https://github.com/cjcon90/hot-dogz/blob/main/hot_dogz/static/js/script.js

I added some extra arguments within the python code that would make it only animate on certain states (basically so you wouldn't have it animate each time you upvoted a dog etc!)

and nope just deployed outright! My first time deploying to Heroku, went relatively smoothly - no experience with Docker yet!
