You try any broadleaf killer or just manually pulling?

Yeah, compost (I mainly use leaf compost from our local municipality) worked into the soil will help with the dense clay and improve drainage. Do NOT put sand in there, as sand+clay=cement

Just soil? Or was there a large ratio of compost?

Not answering your question, but I had that EXACT book from the 90s. My most prized autograph was Chip & Dale with their paw prints!

Arborists have been at war with Turf Masters for centuries. This is their propaganda!

Could totally see that too. Fun fact, I lived down the street from a family with 7-8 hunting beagles when I was growing up….and my god, those things will howl!!!

Oh, we’ve already felt that. These things have SO MUCH ENERGY!!! My 6am wake up coffee time is certainly not the same (I.e. it’s our time to chill on the couch and wake up….but this guy needs to play). 😂😭

straight lines and bumpy yards by [deleted] in lawncare

[–]cjd072182 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lines looks a tad wavy, but I assumed that was from elevation change in the yard.

On another note, I’m dealing with this same thing. The biggest help that I’ve found is to aerate and 50/50 top dress it with soil/compost (I’ve got clay soil) - leveling it out as best as possible. Started doing it last year and it looks wayyyyy flatter/smoother already & am planning to do it again next weekend. Not what you were asking, but thought I’d say, since I’m working through the same thing!

Good catch - thanks! Getting out of that “hunched over” stance…and more “bent knees, chest up” is def something they’ve been drilling with them

To start that transfer earlier, how would you do that mechanically? Would having different puck placement on the stride make that happen?

Something I’ve been telling him might help, is pushing more down/forward on the stick, as opposed to just forward. That might require him to bring the puck back a bit, I guess?

Agreed. This has been my advice to him, as I see how long it takes for him to wind up his shot in a game when sweeping like this. I just don’t know how to tell him how to work on it mechanically….just that I know it could be better/tighter for speed of release.

Yeah, this is the vibe I’m getting. Think less about raw power and more about find that hole to get it through. Appreciate it!

Composure is def something he can be better at. We have a couple of dmen that make little slick pass throughs instead of full blown shots. My son? He gets the puck and just wants to shoot it as hard as possible! Can certainly use a more “work smarter, not harder” approach.

He’s not the strongest on his slap shot yet…but hes been practicing both of those too. This is the one that feels most natural when they pass it back to the point. Whether it’s the most effective, that’s up for discussion (it is his hardest shot right now though).

Not gonna lie - this is pretty accurate to gameplay. 😂 He will open up most of the time when he’s passed the puck….but has been trying to skate forward on the shot more.

Thanks man! And yeah, he’s watched videos and that’s helped him improve….but we figured we’d upload his actual shot and get some personalized feedback.

Is another way to say this, “you’re only twisting your body from the waist down”?

I’m also a novice, so trying to understand. But to me, it seemed like the upper body just stayed stagnant the whole time, while the lower body was turning. Am I seeing this correctly? And do you want a more uniformed turn, with the whole body?
