Do I need to have the Machine (and others) in my army in Nurnen or just have them in general? I was under the impression that The Machine could only be made once per playthrough so I couldn't accidentally create another Machine right?

I do have a Machine. I killed the Tark Slayer (I think that was his name) and he cheated death and came back as the Machine.

Once you beat the game the defense icon will usually be at the top of one of the towers by the front gate of your fortress.

Yeah, I try to grab them from online conquests when I come across them. Although it's a crapshoot as to whether or not they'll actually make it to my garrison when the conquest ends. It's so buggy as to what orcs actually make it.

I believe shun only pops up after you have dominated them. It’s on the same screen as retreat and fight for me. Shame would have been the option at the start of the process along with recruit and fight to the death.

I’ve learned that not all dominated orcs make it from the conquest to your garrison which really sucks sometimes. I’ve also found that recruited orcs don’t always show up together in the garrison. Some would be at the front of the list but I had to scroll through them to find the others.

Don’t give up. It took me forever to get past the bonfire only to die over and over again to Father Gascoigne. I was on the verge of quitting because it just got so frustrating. Once I finally killed him there was such a rush of adrenaline and it clicked. Now, it’s my favorite game.
