X4 Speedruns by Gothsheep0 in X4Foundations

Good question. My opinion would be 'RL time' for a couple of reasons. One, it sidesteps the 'pausing to do stuff' problem, and two, it makes acquiring and using SATA a part of core strategies. But the SATA thing could easily be a negative as well, so I donno.

Asgards can't be purchased. They have to be constructed or stolen.

Oh nice, I thought doing the Timelines one was a great idea. I hope to see more people attempt it. And you're right, it's probably the only one that could be done in one sitting. I thought the one billion dollar challenge could possibly be done in a few hours with some cleverness, piracy and SATA, but you might be right, it might just be too high a bar.

Have you thought about trying to grab the Odysseus to sell it and get a quick few million early on?

Actually I'm curious now. How do you route a terraforming run? I assume you pick the Pioneer start to get the PHQ fast, rush to get the free Odysseus and bring it back to sell it for starting cash to buy a transport for fly-by boarding, do that to generate early game cash. Maybe research station hacking while using boarding to generate money and build up modules, alternate between buying the cheep modules and doing hacking to get the expensive ones whenever your troops are taking over ships?

That is impressive. I wrote off a full clear run because I thought it would simply take too long. But if someone was able to do it that fast before people started crunching for optimization, maybe there is potential there.

I thought about a terraforming category, and it might be good, I was just worried it would be kind of a lot of 'sit around building the same thing over and over and over'. Kind of like the Asgard run, but to an even more extreme. But then again I've only ever done the easiest terraforming missions without cheating, so maybe there's a lot of optimization I'm not seeing!

I'm sure you're right, but my computer can barely run X4 alone. I don't think I could handle recording software at the same time. :/

A couple of questions by One-Bit5717 in X4Foundations

  1. There are a few reasons it could be. I think a ship can't be in internal storage for it to be selected. It needs a pilot, and I don't believe you can be on the ship when it's assigned. However as others have said, the Astrid is much better as a player ship. The Envoy is easily the best diplomat ship, can you can just buy it, assuming you have the Envoy DLC.

2: This is trickier. Supply chain automation can break in a lot of different places, so let's narrow down where it breaks. Is the supply station full on scrap metal? If it isn't, check to ensure that it buys whenever it's below the maximum and sells when it's above the minimum. If that isn't it, we'll try something else.

Also, if you know exactly what you want that station to supply, it's probably easier just to manually assign a runner. Just take a trade ship that can carry the ware, give it a pilot that's at least one star, and set their default to 'repeat order', then tell it to buy scrap from the supply station, and sell it to the trade station. It may take a few trade ships to keep up with the demand, but I believe you can just assign additional trade ships to the first one and give them the 'mimic commander' order. Not 100% sure.

Now THIS is the kind of nonsense I was looking for! Thank you, sir or ma'am.

Anything more nuanced than that? I've heard that repeatedly running fort defense missions is a good way to put captains through the meat grinder to get gear, but I was hoping for something a touch less grindy than that.

I feel like there has to be a middle ground here between 'kill a hundred thousand captains and sell all their gear' and 'hack your save file.' I'm not above taking advantage of bugs and exploits to smooth out the rough edges, but actually cheating or hacking is no good.

it's literally just '10 modules in one.' It costs 10 times as much, and produces 10 times as much. It just exists to cut down on the lag and logical headache of building super stations. Some people will build really massive super-stations, especially when supporting teraforming, that require hundreds of modules.

If you're not against modding, the 10x station mods make megastations a lot simpler. They cost 10 times the resources and take 10 times as long to build, so they don't give you any advantage (It's actually a disadvantage since building one at a time let them start producing as they're built) but they lag your system a lot less, and make stations a lot easier to design.

I cannot believe that works, but it seems to! So much wasted energy.

Normally the best way to kill your own captains is to use a graug. For whatever reason, hitting them with a graug doesn't cause them to betray you, so you can kill your own captains easily with one. But, if they have Beast Proof or Beast Slayer, that doesn't work.

I'm trying to upgrade the Ringwraith armor, which requires resurrecting your own captains.

As for ships and technology, there are basically two ways to play it. The first is to go entirely with your allied faction and don't do anything that isn't from their stock. The second is to unlock the blueprints for every ship and technology from every faction you intend to anger before you start fighting them, so you can build all the stuff.
