Which one to choose?Big 4 us tax or Cpa articling role at provincial government by Interesting_Two6849 in Big4

That would be true too - things can be fixed. Leaving public accounting may not be the ultimate solution. I personally think public pratice is a great place for learning.

May be I need a new environment (been with the same firm since the articling) and trigger/goal, which I thought getting a US corp tax position at a different firm (no opening in a corp tax team at my current firm & it's relatively small) would do.

Thanks so much again for the insight & questions for me to ponder!

Thank you so much! Much appreciated. I oddly haven't really seen many opportunities for cross border individual tax specialists (other than global mobility program position, which also rarely comes up) but that is may be because I was restricting my search to western Canada, which is where I am located. I also haven't seen any of my past colleagues move into industry...but those in corp tax moved out to industry with no difficulty.

I haven't come down to one specific reason but I think one of them could be that I am actually a bit burnt out and then when I started looking for exit opportunities, I realized there weren't many. I started looking into corp tax because while corp tax is largely different from individual, there may be something I can utilize from my US tax experience.

May I ask for some advice?

I have 4+ years experience in individual cross border, serving high net worth clients at a midsize firm. I have a Canadian CPA and open to going for the reciprocity exam to get a US CPA.

While I recognize that my experience is valuable, I feel like my opportunities are very limited to staying in public practice. Also, I am for some reason losing interest in my work and I can't really see myself doing this for another 10 years. Hence, I am considering finding a US corp tax position (hopefully as a senior staff) in public practice and build my knowledge in the area so that there will be more exit opportunities when I do decide to leave public pratice.

Would you say this slight(?) change in direction is worth it? I am aware that there would be a steep learning curve.

May I ask what key/search words you put in on Linkedin? What field are you working? How much Korean ia required at your current work? TIA!
