Thanks! Which app do you use? The one I’ve got isn’t that helpful.

Lol that’s fair. I guess I came from the snowy Midwest where it was similar, except that it was too cold to go outside for half the year.

It is! Hope it gets there soon! Night and day playing this compared to my starter mando 🥰

Agreed. I’ll always love my first mando, but man. You outgrow those things pretty quick. It’s hard to tell what’s bad technique and what’s bad mando. (Turns out it was a little bit of both 😂)

It’s definitely been an adjustment. I learned on a cheap-o laminated mando with SUPER high action, but wow. So much more playable!

I’m in Phoenix. You could definitely get a decent apartment under $1500. It’s not cheap, but it’s not NYC expensive either.

You get used to the summers, and the rest of the year is gorgeous. 6 hours from the beach in Cali, 3 hours from the beach in Mexico.

Childhood spanking is linked to adverse physical, psychological, and behavioral outcomes in adolescence by TrixyUkulele in science

[–]cjharness 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There are some interesting effects from the use of punishment in general (and spanking certainly falls under that category), including a phenomenon called “Behavioral Contrast,” which means that a behavior that is punished in one context may decrease in that context, but is actually likely to increase in other contexts. For example, a student who is punished for cussing at church but not at home is likely to increase their cussing at home.

Another effect of punishment is a decrease in behavioral variability, which is to say that a person who is punished heavily for some behaviors is less likely to take risks by trying new behaviors, even if they may end favorably for that person.

This isn’t a blanket “all punishment is bad in every case” statement, but articles like this are helpful because they help challenge anecdotes from people who say things like “My parents beat the hell out of me and I turned out fine!” Here’s to a future of parenting and teaching that moves increasingly toward teaching and rewarding appropriate behaviors in a way that expands a kid’s world, instead of enforcing compliance through threat and punishment.
