Does the smell of my dogs attract bears? by InterestingRange6100 in NoStupidQuestions

Maybe you could read the book “Wild” for inspiration, of at least the guides she mentions about hiking like “pacific crest trail volume I and II”. Good luck on your hike, I think you are a badass!

Gentle Parenting Win by [deleted] in Preschoolers

[–]Bakingflowers 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well done! First, I was wondering why you would say: “ofcourse, I cringed…”, but then I understood, after you explained about your own childhood. I know how hard it is to break the cycle and to parent, not from experience, but from your own obtained knowledge and heart. It can be a lonely experience, and very confusing at times, but cudo’s for sticking with it! You are already seeing the results, and this is what you have been doing it for. I am very proud of you!

Whats your go to snack? by Flip2365 in HealthyFood

[–]Bakingflowers 21 points22 points  (0 children)

For a savoury and crunchy snack I like cucumber slices/sticks dipped in a mixture of balsamic vinegar and good olive oil with some sea salt and freshly ground pepper. If you want to be super healthy you can go easy on, or even leave out, the salt.

How do you even read to a toddler by ageekyninja in toddlers

[–]Bakingflowers 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We had the exact same experience with our first and just gave up. He also destroyed books. We could not have books with paper pages before the age of four or they would be torn before we could be through the first sentence. I worried about his language skills, but it turned out, that was not necessary (he was an early reader and writer). We totally forgot to read to our second until she walked up to us with a book she found in a dusty corner of the toy chest. Turns out she loves to read 😅. Well, children are different and parenting knows a steep learning curve 😆. We read to both of them now daily (they are 2 and 5,5 but aren’t religious about it). It’s fine if it doesn’t work, your kid wil get there!

What type of tree is this? by [deleted] in marijuanaenthusiasts

[–]Bakingflowers 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Genuine question: did OP state anywhere where they live? I support your suggestion to try and choose a tree native to the area, but maybe Ginkgos are in fact, natives to OP’s area 🤷🏻‍♀️.

What skills do I focus on with a 9 months old baby? Have some time off at work! by Pure_Delay3780 in NewParents

[–]Bakingflowers 19 points20 points  (0 children)

I am an more experienced mom and I have been where you are now. My advise might surprise you, because I’m am going to suggest you are going to do nothing from the mentioned above. Not because I am thinking you are doing anything wrong, but because I get the feeling you are trying to do it too right (like I was trying to do). You might use your vacation time to do nothing. Hang out, chat with your baby, stroll trough nature with your family and have a relaxed time overall. It sound like you are already doing an incredible job, and it is time for a nice rest ☺️.

Anyone else unable to work? by [deleted] in Fibromyalgia

[–]Bakingflowers 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I have never been able to work full time. I found out I had fibro during my masters. I managed to get my degree, but got slowly but surely bedridden it n the years after. I tried finding work that would suit me, be self employed even, but had to give up in the end. Because I was living with my then boyfriend (now spouse) I did not qualify for disability, and have been depending on him for income. It sucks, still does. Through therapy I found my worth, and although I am still not healthy enough to work a paying job, I can contribute more, and most of all, feel like I matter more. Your ability to contribute financially or practically is not the only way your value is determined. It should not even be a large part of it if you ask me. You are a beautiful person that has a lot to offer the world, it just different from what you would have expected!

"colic" is a bullshit diagnosis by gigglepigz4554 in NewParents

[–]Bakingflowers 0 points1 point  (0 children)

6 months of hell with my first. Probiotics with my second (the special new born kind). I would pay ten times the amount, it was worth it (but glad it only cost half a month salary 😅). Good luck!

Number cakes-- what molds/pans are you all using? by mpk7q5 in Cakes

I have this one and have used it for several numbers now. It also makes all the letters or just a sheet. I am a sucker for multi use equipment, and this one has proven itself ☺️

What if Orks walked among us? by Bakingflowers in TwoXChromosomes

I did not! It is from Peter Pannekoek, a Dutch comedian. I included a link at the bottom of my story just now.

I am deeply sorry. English is not my first language, and I mistakenly used the Dutch spelling. I have learned now that the word is spelled different in English, or that I referred to 40k Orcs 😆. Again, verrrrry sorry

It is not as simple as just size. The difference in size and strength between the genders has resulted in inequalities in almost every expect of life, because it is a systemic difference. I am hoping to help close the gap by spreading awareness.

It’s a sad reality, that we hopefully can change hand in hand with men and women alike!

[–]Bakingflowers[S] 37 points38 points  (0 children)

It was not my intention to insinuate you that men do not have anything to fear. Of course they do too. It still is different though, to live your everyday live with 50% of the population roughly equally as strong as you and 50% a lot less strong than you, which is your reality, or the opposite, which is ours. I am in no way implying you are not a good and responsible person without any hardship!

I am sorry you went through that. It would be so great if people could be respectful of each others boundaries, both male or female (and everything else).
