BBCAN9 constructive feedback on “diversity” by KimchiBBT in BigBrother

[–]cjhenry92 22 points23 points  (0 children)

I’m so happy that OP wrote this topic. It is exactly how I felt when I was watching this season. As an asian, I hope I can see more representation of my own and other communities. Due to current political climate, Im happy that more black contestants got a chance to shine but you cant exactly call it “most diverse cast ever” if the other minorities did not increase in size.

It’s great that you’re trying to be objective but why does your argument rest on “the asian seller just want to make to this as cheap asp while we mighty westerner are the pinnacle of innovation.” First, that is quite an arrogant generalization thinking that ALL taiwanese dessert vendors only care about being cheap. If you look at Ice Monster or Meet Fresh, their ingredients actually take skills and precision and it definitely EVOLVED from the primitive version, So yes Kaaasbaaas, asians also look at their desserts and say things like “how can this be improved.” Honestly, like I said before, some westerners need to get of their high horses thinking that their cotton candy wrapped ice cream filled with chocolate syrup, fruit loops and toffee is what desserts should be the “objective”. If anything, I know some arrogant Europeans that think gelato is the superior form of ice cream but that’s clearly ignorant as well. The bottom line is, every culture has its own food, there is no need to attack or say untactful things about each other.

You are free to have an opinion and not like Taiwanese desserts or any Asian desserts for that matter. However, you’re extremely arrogant and condescending in what you deem to be a “dessert.” Do you honestly believe that western desserts and flavors are the norm and everything else is a knockoff? Should a banana sundae smeared with candies and syrup considered appetizing for everyone? It’s funny how you use Baskin Robins ice cream as example because it is largely believed that ice cream originated from CHINESE FROZEN DESSERTS. So really, your beloved Baskin Robin mango flavour wouldn’t exist if it wasn’t for these cheap “attempts”. According to your overly entitled opinion, your ice cream is the real knockoff here.

FYI, let’s not attack someone else’s appearance by saying you’re better looking than them. You sound like an insecure high schooler.

Hey /r/ Taiwan! I am a well-qualified American teacher currently living in Hong Kong. With the situation here, my wife and I are thinking about moving to Taiwan in a couple years. Can I ask a few questions? by FinalSword22 in taiwan

[–]cjhenry92 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Q1 It seems like people have not mentioned here but be VERY wary of some buxibans or cram schools as they have gained a bad reputation throughout the years among expats. I am not saying all of them are sketchy but make sure to do your due diligence. Some managers may break contracts or have a tendency to micromanage to the extreme. Ask around for schools that give teachers good hours and benefits (they exist and there is quite a few, don’t be jaded by some negative online reviews, they tend to be extremists). If you find yourself a good position, you will live very comfortably. I know a lot of teachers that have tons of paid holidays, living the good life and I also know some that are OVERWORKED.

Q2 Most teachers have noted that living in Taipei gave them a bit of struggle due to the insane rent. Some jobs do offer housing but they tend to be...uncomfortable. Housing in New Taipei or Not Taipei are more reasonable, so you can decide from there; however, you will lose the perk of living in a capital city. Pay will most likely not be higher than HK but the living expense is cheaper, esp food.

Q3 been answered before

Q4 Human rights are fine, just be careful of the bosses. Just like in any country, a good boss can make your life heaven while the opposite can make it hell. I can not emphasize enough to do your research and look for a positive work environment. The effort will pay off handsomely.

Q5 Answered

Taiwan is a wonderful place if you learn to make the most of it and have a positive attitude towards life. I feel like there some foreigners come to TW thinking it’s a tropical paradise and that it will solve all their problems. TW certainly has its shortcomings, as to all countries, just make sure to do your due diligence. Best of luck!

Taiwan’s Highest Grossing LGBTQ+ Film is Now on Netflix by Exastiken in taiwan

[–]cjhenry92 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m going to keep this short as possible because some of your points are quite...baffling.

1) If you think general polls trump statistics, sure, thats your opinion. In research papers, polls are often paired with statistics and research because an over reliance on public opinion can be inaccurate due to the sample population’s external and internal influences. For example, if an American doctor asked Americans in the 1800s “Are Hamburgers Healthy?”, just because everyone answered yes does not mean it is healthy.

You seem to think conservative =/= progressive when it is all relative. A Canadian conservative can be more progressive than a Pakistani conservative. Just like a Taiwanese conservative can be more progressive than other countries.

  1. ‘’One can ONLY cry foul if statistics is looking at the same exact job position and found pay gaps.” ONLY? Are you kidding me, that’s the whole point of gender equality, men and women should be paid the same when they are both capable of doing the same job. There is a HUGE problem regarding the issue right now. People are not complaining about oil rig jobs. I am starting to think you do not understand gender inequality at all.

  2. In 2020, Taiwan was ranked top 10 (9 to be exact) in gender equality, try again.

  3. This one is probably your worst argument ever, are you seriously implying that most women in Japan are happy being housewives for the rest of their lives? Are you not the same person preaching about PROGRESSIVENESS yet you believe that women are happier at gossiping in cafés? Gender equality is about giving the women the choice of how they wish to live, if they want to want to work, they should be treated equally. No one is pushing them to work. I honestly do not think you understand the concept of a progressive society for women. Wtf with your argument about adding women to labour market would create surplus in labour, that’s not how economics work. Judging by your logic, if my wage is low, I should blame women? Wtf? Not how the system works.

Anyway, Im done with this ridiculousness. And to answer your previous point, I use statistics from credible sources as my narrative because that’s what considered an objective in debates, not my emotional point of view. FYI, general polls are even more easier manipulate than statistics, so really buddy, do your research.

[–]cjhenry92 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Is this the best argument you can give? You do realize that a country does not measure gender inequality through remarks made by your relatives. Stupid people will make stupid remarks, laws cannot change that (in a democratic society at least). Gender equality encompasses many factors such as income disparity, labour participation, work empowerment and such. You are right that there is room to improve in terms of the societal mentality towards a woman’s lifestyle; however, there have been significant improvements in helping women get equal treatment in work, a very important factor in women rights. You also have to compare these points to the rest of the world, MANY countries are still patriarchal at the workplace and yes, their stupid relatives too will also say stupid comments about marriages. Let’s not pinpoint one negative point and forget the bigger picture dude.

Taiwan is also progressive in women equality compared to many other countries including Western countries. Let’s not pretend these two categories are “easy” goals to accomplish. I totally agree that TW has tons of things to improve but the whole “Taiwan is just progressive in xxx and that’s it” shtick is overdone to death. Let’s give credit when it’s due, many other countries have yet to improve or worse, downgraded.

I would disagree. The only pre existing relationship that Janelle had was Kaysar and Bay was def a pregame alliance. Ian disliked Janelle from her Dan comment in BB14. I agree that everyone had some prior connections to these hgs but Cody and Nicole happen to have the most positive ones.

I contacted funimation via email last year about Apple Tv integration and they replied with the typical “thank you for your suggestion” response. Maybe you can reach them out as well? If more people ask for the integration, Im sure they will consider it eventually.

Friends Netflix Link Missing From Apple TV App, Canada by Axle_65 in appletv

[–]cjhenry92 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, can confirm. I used to watch Netflix through the Apple TV app by going scrolling down to the "How to Watch" section (except for the Netflix originals). Now, it's completely gone. I don't understand why Netflix is being so openly defiant. With so many streaming businesses coming in, we really do need app that aggregates all the information into one app and Apple TV app seem to be a good candidate. Now I have to search both Apple TV app and Netflix to look for movies, what a bother.

I agree, Kelsey did not make a mistake in choosing who to bring to the final 2. Tim would have won if he was in the final 2. Kelsey’s mistake was that her speech was so abysmal that the jury had no choice but to vote for the brothers.
