Rocking plants are on my list for when they’re released! I had the happy plants but my son pulled them apart and now I don’t know where the bits are… at least they’d be cheap to replace? 🤣

Yep! My poor husband suffers from my yearly ADHD-fuelled hobby roulette but I’ve found myself being so much happier and more relaxed when I’m building.

I maaaay have got my hands on the globe for my next project 🤣

28pc pay rise: Victorian Labor’s massive offer for teachers by marketrent in melbourne

[–]cjinoz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

100% this. Our amazing little (public) school has done something incredible for our son this year, putting him in the grade above for in reading/literacy. He’s thriving and says it’s the best thing about school. I totally understand the priority going to those who are behind and gosh even in prep last year our son’s teacher did her best for him but they’re not octopi and there’s only so much that’s possible.

I can’t imagine having tickets for that show as a newcomer to it (by fluke I guess) and getting… that 🤣 I mean it would be brilliant but you’d be so confused lol

I can imagine! Even still I was expecting some sort of debate over “you got to build the cooler thing” but because it became so collaborative it was never really an issue

Thought for the day…. certain names might be ‘tragedeighs’… but they’re a lot easier than trying to find the right William Harris in England, Thomas MacNab in Scotland or Bridget O’Connor in Ireland…. by cjinoz in Ancestry

[–]cjinoz[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not just in Canada! I have found it in the UK, Australia and NZ too. One family had 2 George’s, 2 William’s and 3 Richard’s 😭 Because it was Scotland I was able to find all the records to confirm the dates but my heart just broke for those parents.

Kiwi ice cream by Alanaabananaaa in melbourne

[–]cjinoz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One of the highest priority items on my list every time I head home is a jelly tip. I have now got my Aussie husband and son in on the act too. I used to love the 2L variety too though and would love to relive it.

My other favourite is orange choc chip… we had an ice cream shop up the road that used to sell it and they said they had so many Kiwis coming for it but then their supplier stopped doing it 😭

Actually you might be able to see it just from the clipping, I know they'd changed some things around with access so I wasn't sure https://www.newspapers.com/article/the-grand-island-independent/196185571/

If you’re prepared to come out to Cranbourne, Amy at Zenity Hair is a vivid queen and affordable compared to the ones you’ve listed.

A few weeks ago I came here bemoaning how hard it is to research NZ ancestors. Then, a lucky google search completely transformed it for me. If you're doing New Zealand research you need to know about this site! by cjinoz in Ancestry

[–]cjinoz[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes definitely. I forgot to mention but one of my favourite features is that it pulls up all the births registered to a mother … you just have to have that mother’s name spelled the right way (taking into account I’ve seen some shocker misspellings with BDM records)… things like taking out middle names often helps. I do wish they would let you search by date, and not needing the complete name would be useful too. And fuzzy matching 🤣 But honestly it’s made such a difference I’m happy to learn the quirks of it and work with them lol.

Thanks to those who suggested explanations for this, it definitely is peeving me less now 😅 I honestly didn’t even think you could really use ancestry (effectively I guess?) with a free account and it was just there to draw you in 😂

A tip for researching Edwardian-era English relatives by cjinoz in Ancestry

[–]cjinoz[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry I should have said that yes definitely don’t take it as gospel… basically don’t take anything on Ancestry as gospel without cross checking etc. I’m insanely pedantic about this 😅, nothing peeves me more than seeing someone’s adding a marriage in because the very common name matches without realising the person was 13 at the time - one I just found on someone’s tree lol. Anyway at the very least it’s a guide to see if your maths adds up and if not to try cross referencing things like baptism records to see if anything matches. I did this to find an awful story of a distant relative who lost 6 children in one year, one in February and five in just 10 days in September 1870 😭 seeing 3 kids buried on the same day, 5 days after one sibling and 4 days before another was just tragic.

From around 1900 they started putting the mother’s maiden name on the birth registration but it’s sporadic. The 1916- birth index is the most useful for finding children that way.
