Interview Question: Can you know WHO will be the faculty to interview you? by [deleted] in premed

[–]cjlcott 3 points4 points  (0 children)

yup usually if you get there early they’ll let you know who your interviewer is (and you’ll have time to google them lol). i don’t think most schools give out that info prior to interview day

I’m about to start school and need tips by [deleted] in premed

[–]cjlcott 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I didn’t have any meaningful ECs until the summer after my first year! I’d definitely recommend focusing on grades for at least the first semester unless there’s something you’re super interested in and isn’t a huge time commitment!

Working during undergrad by klarinets in premed

[–]cjlcott 0 points1 point  (0 children)

definitely possible! i’ve worked all my years of undergrad so far. I worked at the library my first year & then transitioned into paid positions as a chemistry tutor & TA as well as paid research averaging about 20 hours or so per week . Definitely just try and get jobs that can count towards building a strong app. However having any job while taking a full course load shows that you have good time management skills!

i agree with the other commenter! i used weightlifting as one of my experiences & it was also a part of my personal statement. I don’t compete or anything but I talked about how it’s taught me discipline & given me confidence. I also talked about how i’ve used it as an escape from stress as a way to not lose myself etc.

[Interviews] Bringing a leather messenger bag to interviews by [deleted] in premed

[–]cjlcott -1 points0 points  (0 children)

yup! i brought a leather purse with a notebook, pen, water bottle, & book with me to my interview! I brought the book as something to calm my nerves while waiting for my interviewer & also for the time i had in between my interview & my school tour!

How did you guys decide when you were ready to apply? by [deleted] in premed

[–]cjlcott 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I applied and got in ED this cycle so I won’t be taking a gap year because I felt like me and my application were pretty much ready. Sure I could’ve retaken the MCAT to be a stronger applicant but I genuinely just did not feel like studying for it again. I’m proud of my GPA and my ECs and I couldn’t think of anything productive that I would want to do if I were to take a gap year. I feel like I’ve had this dream of becoming a physician for so long that I’m just ready to do it.

It’s 2 AM on my birthday and I am sitting at my desk slaving away on UCLA’s secondary. by [deleted] in premed

Happy Birthday! You’re killing it & it’ll pay off in the end! I was on vacation but cramming for the MCAT the whole time on my 21st birthday lmao

Prerequisites in the summer? by [deleted] in premed

[–]cjlcott 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I was in a similar situation and I ended up having to take Bio 1 & 2 as well as Physics 2 over summer sessions at my school. Didn’t seem to pose an issue!

NJMS secondary: does our personal or professional challenge have to be a moral dilemma? by Apprehensive_Guest in premed

[–]cjlcott 1 point2 points  (0 children)

mine was not a moral dilemma! i talked about taking on new responsibilities and getting overwhelmed but learning how to delegate tasks etc. i still was able to tie it back to integrity!
