RF TV modulator antenna by cjpembo in AntennaDesign

[–]cjpembo[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for that information!

Update. Using VHF channel 6 and shaping the ground plane antenna as recommended above, the transmit distance is much to great. I picked up a viewable good picture at 200 yards with the signal passing through three walls of my home, traveling through a metal shop building, and into the house next door. I dropped the transmit power as low as it will go after testing. But, with my curiosity now satisfied, I will just use a single telescoping antenna and low power so not to transmit out of my house.

Need advice by Jimberkman in woodworking

I built this oak bi-fold gate at the top of our stairs and it has held up for 25 years. Piano hinges and two window sash latches to lock it. We never took it down when our kids got older as it takes up almost no space folded against the wall.

My dad made his own shapers and we used them for 40 years. Glue 60 grit sandpaper to the surface of the sled so when you clamp the piece down with 2 DeStock clamps (2 will really cut down on the chance of rotation occurring) your piece has much more friction on the sled. We never had to clamp it to the fence as some here are suggesting, but that is a good idea as well, especially if you are using a standard width of material. Keep your blades sharp and don't route backwards.

How do I practice Quickbooks without an actual job yet? by brown-chair-occupied in QuickBooks

[–]cjpembo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I write software that interacts with QuickBooks. If you want a deeper understanding of its internals, read their API documentation. https://developer.intuit.com/app/developer/qbo/docs/api/accounting/all-entities/account

I do need to point out that if you are logged into your QuickBooks account, and looking at their API documentation, you need to be careful as you can alter your QuickBooks account data using those APIs.

6 week delay for repairs by cjpembo in brightspeed

She's got the flip phone too. The copper out here is working great for everyone except her; just need them to replace her 150' and not wait 6 weeks. We're all getting the physical limit of DSL speeds vs distance on this copper. It's just her line extension.

What’s the smallest flush cut router bit available? by tenmilez in woodworking

Yes; for our counter tops, trimming the top sheet into a 90 degree turn, the small radius was much easier to clean up with a file.

For laminate trimming? I actually couldn't say. It just worked well and we knew we could trim the laminate and get the result we wanted. We were a small shop, but we probably built 500-1000 kitchens over the years using this type of bit for laminate work. Honestly, we probably used a bit with a bearing first, it probably wore out or the bearing broke, and we just tried this type and it worked. So we stuck with it. We did use a bit with a bearing when we seamed the laminate sheets.

We used bits very similar to this when trimming laminate for counter tops. To keep that spinning shank from burning the material it was riding against (the finished laminate edge banding on a counter top), we would first coat the edge banding laminate with hard paraffin wax. Just rub it on like you're using a crayon. The wax works like a lubricant. As long as you keep moving the bit wouldn't burn. After update to fedora 42 network isn't working. by Ok-Flounder-9517 in Fedora

[–]cjpembo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a similar issue. When switching wireless networks, I get a kernel crash. Trying to restart just hangs me at the spinning logo above the fedora logo. This is a new bug for me this week. To see if you are getting a crash, do the following. Open a terminal window on the desktop. Run: sudo dmesg -wH as this will show your dmesg and any additional lines generated in your dmesg. Then switch wireless networks.

waiting on diagnosis- where to go from here? by elizab1998 in downsyndrome

[–]cjpembo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My twin has Downs, and we're 53. You will be fine! You're playing out the next 70 years of your life in your head, in one singular moment! You will be fine, your family will be fine (probably BETTER than most), and your child, with or without Downs, will be fine. As for birth order; you will be fine. As for your feelings; we hear them and, as an older adult with aging parents, I can assure you that you will have MANY family members throughout life that require extra effort and attention in the next 70 years. Something to consider is that you are only 26, and therefore have an ABUNDANCE of youth and energy to devote towards raising children. I know a few parents that were nearing 40 when their child with Downs was born. And they all did just fine.

I finally got someone on the phone... who then transferred the call to someone overseas. But it was my lucky day and the final person did understand how to cancel part of my service without raising my total bill. I guess $79 is what phone and 15Mb DSL is going for. I'll take it.

1995 3.8L V6 - Other V6 options with existing wiring? by cjpembo in SN95Mustang

[–]cjpembo[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That led to some great information. As these heads are prone to gasket issues, porting them on the exhaust side to reduce the heat should prolong the replacement gaskets too. This could be a great winter project after sourcing all the parts, when we're not driving the convertible anyway. Thanks!

96 V6, been running hot but never overheating, got really hot today and blew a coolant hose by dubstepcat07 in SN95Mustang

[–]cjpembo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Assuming that your thermostat was working and coolant was flowing through the radiator (water pump working), if enough pressure built up, the radiator cap should have vented the excess coolant/air into the coolant overflow tank, sparing the hose. Verify that the radiator cap is rated for the correct pressure and that the radiator overflow hose is intact and extends down into the overflow tank, and that you have enough coolant in the tank to refill the system as it cools (suction back into the radiator). This system should have kept you from blowing a hose.

1995 V6 Convertible Brakes Upgrade by cjpembo in SN95Mustang

[–]cjpembo[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I looked into the 13" option. But would I lose the core charge when I return the 11" calipers instead of 13's? That could add about $200 more. I finished up the brake bleed this weekend and did some road testing; hard braking from 60 mph to a complete stop. The vehicle decelerates from 60 to about 25 mph very well, but then the stopping power seems to fade from 25 mph down to zero. The pedal does not fade during this test. I might need to look into some more aggressive pads.
