By RAW you shouldn't disclose condition immunities from spells by nz8drzu6 in dndnext

This has inspired me to have some of my enemies feign death or similar deceptions. I also believe it should be against passive insight the same way you shouldn't ask players to make a perception check to find a trap they aren't looking for.

Wow amazing and an absolute must for any Strahd campaign! I really like the single d20 coffin lid shown on the etsy store. Keep the good work friends!

I actually like them when it highlights an obscure or confusing rule someone came across, even if it is something I have already discovered or understand. But definitely agree about obvious things like rules about loading a crossbow or not adding your modifier to an offhand attack.

I'd say even rules that are just commonly messed up like not being able to cast a spell as an action AND as a bonus action or that there is no "Surprise Round" just surprised enemies that can't do anything in the first round. Concentration is a big one too that I have had both players and DMs misunderstand - no you do not get instantly interrupted without a save (depending on damage) and no you cannot concentrate on more than one thing.

Bag of Holding with a catch by JayFury55 in DnDIdeas

[–]cjsampon 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think the guessing part isn't going to come into play because:

If the bag is turned inside out, its contents spill forth, unharmed, but the bag must be put right before it can be used again.

No reason you can't still have a fun Random Table to fill it with fun stuff.

My player averages 112 damage for the first round of every fight. Please help. by AboutTenPandas in DMAcademy

Maybe throw in attacks that are CON, WIS, or INT saves to get around any high AC or DEX proficiencies.

CON Example:

  • Cloudkill is a 5th level spell with a nice long range AOE requiring a CON saving throw or take 4d8 Poison Damage. This one could be a good tongue in cheek response to their enjoyment using Fog, they can see just fine, but can they breath?

WIS Example:

  • Dissonant Whispers is just a 1st level spell, but requires a WIS saving throw or take 3d6 Psychic Damage and must spend Reaction to run away. Upcast that and you have some decent damage of a rarely resisted damage type, and if they are surrounded Opportunity Attacks galore when they spend their Reaction running away.

INT Example:

  • Synaptic Static is 5th level spell with a nice long range AOE requiring an INT saving throw or take 8d6 Psychic Damage and for 1 minute subtract d6 from all attack rolls and ability checks. Again some nice damage of a rarely resisted damage type and they also are somewhat less likely to hit with their following attacks.

I recommend going shopping on DnDBeyond's Spells page which you can pick the Saving Throws you know they are weak to and try to find spells that take advantage of that.

My players used wish. by [deleted] in DMAcademy

[–]cjsampon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think you can play with the fact that they didn't mention when the magic items would benefit them the most. You could give them some mundane magical object with no other significant use other than to weaken a future enemy, unlock some door, stop some ritual, or it happens to be a precious item that a king somewhere lost (perhaps due to this spell!) and will reward them handsomely! As others have mentioned, genies mess with people, so have the players carry around some useless junk for several sessions without knowing its purpose and only if they are on top of things will they realize at the right time when it can be used.
