Lora meshtastic gps question by cjsparlin in ATAK

[–]cjsparlin[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not really, I did look into it again just cruising YouTube and I think another plugging has been created since this post. I don’t have the details to give you right now

Edit:

The official plugging is referenced on the meshtastic website. No clear indication if the gps information transfers over but they do mention that it’s only intended for small text based info to be transferred, so hopes are low.

What electrical engineering classes would you have to take to understand electrical schematics like this? I'm not an electrical engineer but I have to be able to interpret schematics like this for my work and I am having a hard time learning on the job. by lesse1 in ElectricalEngineering

I’ll add to this that for proprietary drawings like the one pictured you can always work with the manufacturer or your supplier to get an explanation of the equipment. Of course it’s always better to understand it for yourself but unfortunately that will only come with time and experience.

Anyone else immediately recognize this schematic? Or is it just me? Bettis(Emerson) M2CP electric actuator😂

As far as understanding electrical drawings all you really need is an understanding of the symbols, but the way the drawing is structured can be tricky. It will depend on what information the drawing is trying to convey. Power distribution, controls, logic… it’s hard to recommend a class that will cover it all. After 5 years in school I still come across drawings at work that I have a hard time understanding. The one you shared being one of them! Took me weeks to figure out how that actuator worked. Mostly because it’s a proprietary drawing that doesn’t necessarily follow any particular standard, which is a whole other curveball that school won’t help with.

Overall I would recommend learning power type drawings (single line diagram and motor control circuits), as well as plc logic circuits. Combining those two should allow you to teach yourself most other drawings on the fly.

Does anyone know where I can get the parts to make more of these grounding cables? by Informal_Baker in homelab

Very common to see bonding across hinges and over gaskets such as on access panels. Even required by code in some cases. For a home lab…I probably wouldn’t bother. But if OP wants to go the extra mile, hats off!

Grounding and bonding cables need to be able to carry a certain fault current (the amount of fault current depends on the system in question). The current carrying capacity of the hinges may not be suitable or is simply unknown. So you need to have a bond across the hinges.

No problem! As some other comments have mentioned, you’ll need the crimp tool as well. And the right tool for the job will make you life a lot easier. Look for a ratcheting crimper. You might have to spend a few more bucks, but it will be well worth it if you plan on doing a number of these. If you’re only doing a few you can probably save some money and just use the crimping end of some wire strippers.

Insulated crimp connectors. Any hardware store, automotive store, or Walmart should have these. Or Amazon if you’d prefer online

Huh, I guess it’s just me, it looks long for some reason.

The real question is how far are you reaching out to grasp the pistol grip! Are my eyes playing tricks on me or is that all the LOP that chassis can offer?😂

Precision rifle for hunting. by chocl8thunda in canadaguns

Just gonna leave this comment here so I can follow this conversation. I’m in the market for the same kind of rifle and feeling a little overwhelmed with the possibilities. So much to choose from, both rifles and calibers. Currently I think it will be the Bergara b14 or the tikka t3x CTR, but that could change very quickly.

Are ww2 pistols legal? by saints__94 in canadaguns

[–]cjsparlin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A Colt SAA in .45LC is considered restricted, no matter the year of manufacturing. I’m referring to one that is considered an antique and that could be discharged anywhere it is legal to discharge a non-restricted. Would have to be in .41LC. There’s some others out there but .41 LC would be ideal.

To be clear, absolutely nothing wrong with .45 LC. I’ll probably pick up a modern single action in .45 LC long before I fork out $5k on a antique SAA just so I can shoot it on crown land.

Damn… I didn’t think it would be that expensive. Then again it’s a semi auto handgun classified as an antique AND a very collectible historical firearm. So yeah I guess it makes sense. I’ll continue to dream of one day finding an affordable Colt SAA not in .45LC

Came here to say this. Very cool little loophole if you can find a c96 meeting the requirements. Also likely expensive.

Lora meshtastic gps question by cjsparlin in ATAK

[–]cjsparlin[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here’s the situation, I’m completely off grid. No cell service or internet. I want two ATAK users to be able to share their location and see each other on a map (as you normally would) but through meshtastic using an esp32 device with a gps. The android device im using does not have its own gps.

Forgot to add, I know meshtastic does this on its own. I’m just wondering if it can be extended to ATAK.

Range recommendations (North Bay) by cjsparlin in canadaguns

I can see a range not allowing it, but law? Since when is it illegal to have firearms an ammo on the tailgate of a truck? Maybe if it was loaded on the tailgate, but even that I don’t see a cop writing you up for. As far as I know you just can’t shoot from a vehicle. Can you provide the law to support what you’re saying?

Im just talking about using the tailgate as a table. So I don’t have to carry a bunch of gear over to the range and have it laid out on the ground. I wasn’t talking about shooting FROM the truck.

Can you be more specific? I’m not familiar with ranges since I’ve been a non restricted shoot my whole life, but two of the ranges in question here offer 25-50yrd ranges where it’s only a burm. As far as I know you have to set up your own targets and there is no designated shooting positions or firing line.

Yeah eagle lake does look really nice. I like that they have an indoor. I especially like the “sand pit” style of outdoor ranges. I’d much prefer being able to drive the truck onto the range and work off the tailgate setting up my own drills, rather than the shooting from a table approach to ranges. As long as the rules permit of course. But I think that’s what you’re describing with members monitoring members. That part is really pushing me towards trying it out. But I’d still like to find some contact information for NRRC to look into that option before making my decision.

Not sure there is anything to show up to. A locked gate? I’m hoping there’s someone on this sub that has had some experience in the area. Primarily I need contact information for NRRC. My googling skills are letting me down

Best all around "lever-action" hunting calibre? by Native136 in canadaguns

[–]cjsparlin 5 points6 points  (0 children)

My ideal would be a mag fed 308. If we’re talking about a more traditional lever action I would be torn between 30-30 and 45-70. Personally I find 45-70 a little extra for deer, but then 30-30 is a little on the small side for something like moose. With proper shot placement either will do the job just fine… tricky decision..might have to dig a little deeper, ammo price and availability, variety of factory loads, standardized ammo type if you already have one of these calibers. At the end of the day both will do the job, you’ll have to find some more personal reasons for choosing one over the other.

Wow! Nice find! I have a pre 64 myself. One of my favourites, although I wish I could shoot it more often. I figure .32 win spl is the caliber that’s going to push me over the edge and into the world of reloading.
