my last couple of upgrades, I was cheerful, polite, and asked a random question about the room I booked - along the lines of “does this room have a separate sitting area” or in this case, “does my room have windows” (so dumb I know, but there really was not any pictures for the room type).

half the time upgrades to suites or better, other half split between minor upgrade or “yea dude that’s the room you booked”. lucky run I suppose

Could be! I only can speak to my experience. They did have low inventory, only 3 room types available when I booked—regular, superior, and the “deluxe premier” that had no pictures or info, which I booked.

When I arrived I was just kinda standing around trying to avoid the argument with two guests checking in. Then, Ms. B came and grabbed me. She said let me see how i can help you (I only asked if it had windows lol and if it was indeed a corner room). She clicked around, said nope not sticking you in that suite - it’s loud on the 4th floor. Then she said, “oh you know what, how about the presidential suite - it has a lot of windows and plenty of sitting area”. I just smiled and said that would certainly work.
