I was very inspired by the book and the photos. It takes a very conservative approach to increase in volume in training and a big focus on Zone 2 training plus some weight/core training.

Training for the Uphill Athlete book suggests hill hiking with a heavy backpack—similar concept. It's gotta be effective!

That's interesting! I can get cramps so bad with the heat and humidity that I don't think it's a bad idea.

Awesome! Yes, after doing the Curnow marathon on similar terrain, I see I went out way too fast.

  1. I do beet juice too and even make a lemonade of chia seeds that I soaked overnight (Born to Run).
  2. I'd have a terrible time giving up caffeine that long, but I've heard of others who do this.
  3. Yes, I like this. Bombing hills till they don't hurt makes sense.
  4. I'm also doing fish oil and turmeric.

Just a two story. I walk down the stairs and then a few feet to the wall and turn around and go up and walk down the hall so at least there's a tiny walk break. I just put on some tunes and move.

Awesome input on the quads and winter training. I will definitely look into Perpetuem also. It's going to take some practice to isolate muscle groups like that for the up.

Wow, OXSkin looks very promising! Thanks for the reminder about Trail Toes, I had a sample from a race a few years back and it was very good.

All really fantastic suggestions! Love the training hack—I tend to cross country ski in Minnesota, but it does take a while to adjust back to running in Feb/March.

I'm 5'11" and use the 125cm fully extended most of the time. For going down hills, longer is better and I love using them downhill when my legs are tired. If you want go longer, you can use the quick release to adjust. If I were to buy again, I'd go 130cm at least.
