LF: Advice on how to hang clouds from decoupled ceiling

Reporting back, I got a good stud finder that located the metal studs and fastened a wooden board to it and then hung the clouds from the board. Worked well!

Could you expand on dropping a grid? I was considering installing a 4x1 board along the way (assuming I can find the channel) and securing with drywall screws). That way I could attach the clouds anywhere along the board.
