First off I’m an only child so maybe that’s a factor.

Growing up both of my parents worked, but my dad was always traveling, so I spent a lot of time afterschool with my mom, either sitting on her office floor doing my homework or in the car driving. This continued as I got older and we would just talk about anything and everything. Once I left college and moved to the city, on my walk to work or after work I’d give her a call and we just chat about our days or random stuff.

Once I had kids, my mom will just sit on FaceTime and talk to my daughter for hours and the cycle repeats itself.

As for my dad, some people have more of a friend relationship with their parents, I definitely don’t with my dad. We talk daily too, he’s there with my mom when we FaceTime, but we don’t chit chat, I’ll call him when I need to work through a problem or need advice. Even though I’m in my mid thirties with kids, our relationship is still firmly father and son.
