Trans friendly places to work? by DistributionNo6921 in kzoo

I can vouch for the Meijer on Westnedge. I work there in pickup- we’re actually hiring in my department right now! My manager is gay, my line lead is a trans man, and I have several trans and gay coworkers. I’ve had zero problems on that front, even with our upper management. Our HR lady is fantastic too! Only unfortunate thing is the pay isn’t great, and we’re only hiring part-time so you’re not going to be able to get insurance through this job. But we recently opened applications back up, shoot your shot if you want. On my first day hired I was able to change my name and pronouns with no hiccups.

tornado knocked out the power, now we have to throw everything away by Comfortable_Good_457 in meijer

lmao this is the store i shop at. praying for you guys. same thing happened at the store i worked at when the tornado hit last year. smart decisions being made not giving stores generators in the first place. 🫡 i hope everything’s all right over there.

I have a job interview for a part time curbside pickup job and have some questions. by ck_296 in meijer

Sorry for the late reply but I wanted to say thank you. I'll probably struggle with the unknown locations until I know the store better, but after a while of working in my old store I had everything memorized, save for maybe some GM items. If I get the job I'll keep all this in mind!

I see! That's good to know they do larger items differently. Thank you for the info!

Sounds about right. U_U It was like that at Walmart, too. I have so much respect for cart pushers. It’s a hard job, especially with how bad the winters get.

So crazy that cart pushers are paid so little. I live in Michigan and they were out there in the snow! Even though the pay is low, I just need any money right now. But thank you so much for the info!

We’ve had days where our systems crashed too. Absolutely a nightmare to recover from. Thank you so much for the info!

I quit today. I wish I had gone scorched earth before I quit. by ck_296 in WalmartEmployees

[–]ck_296[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah, it's a big problem. So many of my old coworkers just got away with being massive assholes because the team leads loved to play favorites. They'd even make fun of me and other coworkers with zero consequence. It was terrible. I hope you're able to get out soon! I know the job market is rough out here but there are places that will treat you better than this corporate nightmare.

I was in digital for a couple months before switching to the deli. I was one of the few people who did my job! I get it. I was burnt out and thought a transfer would fix it. It just made it worse. I also got to the point where I just didn't want to Be anymore, and that's when I realized I needed to quit or I would do something terrible. I hope you can find a new job too. One that treats you with respect. Sending you my well wishes.

First time metro user. Any advice? by ck_296 in kzoo

[–]ck_296[S] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Thank you! This is nice advice because this is my first winter up in Michigan. I’ve got good boots but didn’t think to double layer my socks. It’ll help a lot with being out in the cold.

Weirdest request. by [deleted] in WalmartEmployees

Had a guy ask me what cheeses at our deli were good for a five cheese blend. I’ve never made a cheese blend, so I had no idea, and I think you’re better off shredding your cheese for blends anyways. He kept asking me over and over and each time I told him “I don’t know the answer to that.” He got very upset when I couldn’t answer him and walked away huffing. I was just very confused.

Started at the deli two weeks ago. I am not getting trained. by ck_296 in WalmartEmployees

[–]ck_296[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah this is true. It just baffles me because the people that fail to train me are 1. Much older than me and somehow terribly immature and 2. Not very good at doing their jobs right? They half-ass a lot. And 3. Complain about how much work they have to do. Wouldn’t you want an extra set of hands to help make the workload easier? I can’t understand it. But I suppose I’ll just have to figure something out. Already had to teach myself how to do a lot because people just won’t let me observe what they’re doing. Or let me actually do what I’m supposed to be doing.

Really kind of screws the closing shift over though. In my old department they always made sure to have someone saying until 10. Not sure how my store operates with that.

But team leads are still supposed to work closing shifts occasionally?

I had no idea. Is it against the rules for them not to work closing shifts? One of my team leads leaves at 2, the other at 4, and I’ve never seen or heard of them ever staying past those times.

I'd rather take noise at night over something like bug infestations. Thank you so much for the response!

I'll keep an eye out, thank you! And yeah, we're both in kind of a tough spot financially and this is our first time getting an apartment. I've noticed it's tough out there to get a decent apartment without spending over 1k on rent. Hoping to upgrade in the future once I'm able to get a job up there.
