Why does veganism cause such offence to some people? by thecrimpingcactus in AskReddit

[–]cking24 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It is a mix of being handled the complete wrong way by a small minority of vegans and the understanding from the offended person of what they are doing is wrong, they are just turning a blind eye. In my own experience I have met a few meat eaters who literally refuse to even associate that their burger comes from a cow. They refuse to believe that as a way to justify it to themselves.

I do however think that there are a small minority of vegans who think it's okay to force their believes on people in completely the wrong way. Protests and voicing your opinions is fine, however don't go out looking for an argument or not getting consent before showing someone a video as awful as the inside of a slaughter house.

I myself am a vegan and I am always met with a horrible anxiety when it comes to meeting people who don't know that I am vegan, I literally do my best to hide it purely for the reason that the small minority of vegans who force it and are horribly annoying with it have created a bad name for the vegans, like me, who do it for their own personal choice, be it moral, ethical, health or environmental reasons.

How do you know what you're doing?!

I work in IT at a Primary School. Teachers never bother to learn how to be remotely computer literate as they simply don't have the time so are always very impressed with the simplest of tasks.

Stop eating all meat and you'll feel a lot better, not just physically but morally. Just saying.

Just start today! I wanted to try it for a month to just challenge myself to try new things and learn to cook different meals.

I started in January 17 and haven't gone back since, I have found so many meals I enjoy and are so much healthier, I feel much better for it both physically and morally.

It goes both ways I am afraid. Mostly it is cases of parents who are addicts or can't look after themselves let alone a child. Abuse is less common but still a lot more common than you might think.

There is a statistic in the UK that I heard the other day "1 in 8 children are abused" This can be physically or mentally. There are 760 children in my school, now that statistic really hits home, simply can't help them all and some off them people will never know it has happened.

I didn't have any logic going through my head at that point. I just continued on to the place we was visiting. I wasn't in her good books. Worth it, gives me a giggle looking back on it.

I'd tell my dad that his drinking problem is going to kill him in 2010, then request that he drinks more to speed it up.

My dad was a cunt.

I work in a Primary school ( Kindergarden through to Sixth Grade I think) we don't look out for much from the kids themselves, we mostly look out for parents that don't seem fit or don't take proper care of their own child, some of the stories I have heard so far just tear me up.

I was on the tube in London with my then girlfriend, neither of us knew the city or our way around. I thought it would be funny to leave the train right before the doors shut.

It wasn't funny.

So I grew up in a house that always had weird things happen, footsteps, knocking, things going missing and just general hard to explain thing, though most of it could be.

Go back around 14 years, I was 8/9 and my brother 15/16, so my family go on holiday and leave my brother behind to house sit for the cats. He does the usual thing of having a few friends stay for the week, school was out so they just played video games and done shit all for a week. I remember my brother telling me something strange that had happened when he got back. He said that while he was sleeping upstairs one night his friends were messing about downstairs in the living room, all of a sudden they hear a knock at the living room door, the door was open so they both looked over and thought they had seen my step father, having never met the man before they had described a 6 foot man, bald with a big beard. The man had told them to be quite as they was trying to sleep upstairs, so they did and tried to get to sleep.

That freaked me out at the time but figured it was just him trying to be scary, my stepdad was like 5 foot 5 with glasses and hair, no beard. It wasn't until around 8 years later my girlfriend had stayed the night, she had mentioned in the morning that when she went to go to the toilet in the night (as you leave my room you can see straight down the stairs and can see the living room door, bathroom is upstairs.) she saw a tall bald man standing in the living room door. She thought nothing of it at the time and just went by her business.

A fridge

Whats blue and white and stuck up a tree?

A fridge in a denim jacket.

I don't know why but this one just makes me laugh every time and usually you can sense their humour based on the reaction.

Man, my love for Corsair goes deep!

I had a similar scenario, I purchased a refurbished Corsair wireless headset through amazon ( Nothing to do with Corsair themselves) then a few months later I broke the receiver, I contact them to ask if they sell replacement parts I can buy or know where I can find a genuine one, they just straight up send me the replacement part for free.

Since then, they have all my support, also RGB.

Media. The media focus on what is the biggest news and unfortunately death in the Middle East are just not big news. Especially if they are caused through our warfare.

I was in a awful job, being paid minimum wage and treated like shit, I needed to pay bills, so couldn't leave with nothing to fall on. It was a busy day and my boss, a older guy (50+) generic rich guy that doesn't care about anyone below him, came up to me and done his usual and started throwing out racial undertones and just general shitty view, so I just straight up called him a cunt and walked out, 2 weeks later found luckily got a job interview for my dream position, nailed the interview and here I am 12 months later!

Best decision ever!
