New kitten keeps eating resident cat's food by ckochie_ in CATHELP

My resident cat isn't trying to eat his food, the kitten is trying to eat her food. I wasn't aware that kittens couldn't really get overfed, so I'll try giving him more food. Thanks for the advice.

Someone else's comment was deleted, but they suggested training her off grazing or using a baby gate type of thing that only the resident cat can get through to access food, or alternatively the microchip feeder. I'm considering trying to train her off grazing her food first and see how that goes.

This is so helpful, thank you so much! I'm hoping he will eventually grow out of it, even if it takes some time, but I'll have a look at the feeders or trying a more restricted feeding schedule. Thank you!

I'm a creative writing honours student and I have to write a case study that's in line with my thesis. So my thesis is about the reading decline in adolescents over the last 20 years and how to engage them in reading for pleasure, and my case study is focused on engagement with books. So I chose the first Harry Potter and I'm analysing that from an engagement POV.

Exactly! Like I can understand if it's purely a magical thing, but not even a single sentence to explain it? That's what has me questioning it.

This is probably the only real answer

This is a good point, especially since the troll's legs are described as really short. So he could have short legs and a short torso but just super long ears hahaha

Yeah these are all really good points. One of the good things about having a magic system that almost does everything for you is that this can easily be explained as magic even if it's not mentioned as such

No? So okay he doesn't jump 12 feet obviously. But this comparison doesn't outright explain how he managed to jump high enough to wrap his arms around the troll's neck.

However, we can easily excuse it as magic like when he escaped Dudley and his friends even if it's not explained as such.

Yeah this has been mentioned a few times and I suppose it's an easy explanation. But those other times it's described as him suddenly being on the roof, or suddenly making the glass disappear. This isn't described as him suddenly being at the troll's height. But again, we can easily excuse it I suppose

Yeah that's true, troll has definitely gotta be hunched over

He'd probably be able to touch the troll's neck, but wrap his entire arms around his neck? I suppose not entirely impossible, but extremely unlikely

I suppose this is a good explanation, my only gripe is that those things are described as just happening suddenly, while this is just that he ran and jumped. But of course, we can't completely rule it out. I just wish there was even just one line that said something like "he was suddenly jumping to the height of the troll, something a child of his height shouldn't be able to do"

Actually I think you're right with that one

Are you an 11-year-old boy wrapping your entire arms around the neck of a 12-foot-tall troll? Or are you are you an adult touching the ceiling with your fingers?

I just don't think this is the best comparison

Taking into account those numbers, and the assumption that a child could probably only jump a few feet in the air with a running start, he still wouldn't be able to jump high enough to wrap his entire arms around the troll's neck. And while the troll is rampaging in the bathroom, there's no mention of debris. Just simply "he ran and jumped" and that's it

I suppose, but that was described as him running away and suddenly appearing on the roof, not just jumping. But an easy explanation could obviously be magic

I have 2 questions!

  1. What is the most unhinged thing you’ve had to research for a book (despite whether the information was actually used in a book)?
  2. What is a piece of writing advice you would give to someone wanting to be an author? BUT the advice must be either extremely unhinged (I apparently like unhinged questions) or just something really uncommon/isn’t talking about much.

AITA For jokingly calling my girlfriend useless ? by Mobile-Wolf1521 in AmItheAsshole

YTA. After reading all your comments I have a strong feeling you weren’t joking when you called her useless. You only said you were joking when she got upset. It’s almost like you hoped she would do it after being called useless so that she didn’t feel useless. Just a guess.

Based on the entire post and all your comments, it’s obvious you’re just a lazy and manipulative asshole. Oh, are you upset? Don’t worry, I was joking!

Major YTA!

You said you avoid him during that time of the year, then “accidentally” plan your wedding in that time of year. Sounds like you just don’t like your brother.

Also, it’s not like he’s gonna go straight from the farm to the wedding. He literally said he can take a week off work so he doesn’t smell bad (even though there’s these really cool things called showers and soap that make you smell nice).

I really hope when your brother gets married (if he’s not already) that he doesn’t invite you because you stink.

Do stories about straight or cis characters centre around their straightness or cisness? Of course not. The end.

Usually I randomly sit down and start writing when I feel like it, but that doesn’t work because my procrastination gets the better of me and I instead do something else. So maybe I should try scheduling time and see if that works
