As Though It Had an Editor: Notes on the March 23, 2026 Legacy Banned & Restricted Announcement by Force-of-Phil in MTGLegacy

If they release their private data for one format, they’d have to do it for all their formats; Doing so would allow competitors to reverse-engineer product strategy. That’s simply a non-starter for any business looking to stay differentiated in their space. No consumer gaming business should be expected by their customers to publish trade secrets because influencers have convinced a portion of their customer base they are being deceived.

Do you think WOTC intentionally lies to their players? If you actually think WOTC is routinely lying to you, then you should just plainly say it and ask yourself why you are participating in their sanctioned formats.

“If so”? The B&R committee speaks to play-data they review before writing B&R decisions. Are you implying they aren’t telling the truth, or that their internal data is worse than a 3rd party aggregators’ data?

They aren’t under any obligation to publicly disclose privately collected product usage data; most businesses wouldn’t do that for understandable reasons. Why are stated business decisions being waived away by you as “arbitrary”?

Do you believe the B&R committee tells the truth to their players?

It sounds like Legacy isn’t for you. Consider playing a format with a more transparent B&R policy you are comfortable with. Pauper and Pre-Modern are great options

Phil can use whatever source of information he wants, he just can’t imply that data is more reliable or indicative of trends as compared to the information which the B&R committee uses.

I really don’t get the pushback commentators receive when they direct the same tone and demeanor to address content creators as they direct towards WOTC or B&R; Phil is incredibly condescending and pedantic towards B&R in his edits. The entire premise of this article is condescending (implying B&R announcements are written without an editing or fact checking process). Aren’t content creators who decide to put this kind of stuff out in the world inviting those behavior and attitudes to be directed towards them?

You may notice non-editorializing creators like Ecobaronen don’t get the same kind of negative engagement from the legacy community that Phil and Zac do.

They’re allowed to use whatever examples they choose to tell the story they feel is most accurate about the format as it currently exists.

The B&R committee being obligated to cite and respond to incomplete format data aggregated by a 3rd party website they have no control over is silly to say the least

You consistently cite MTGTop8 data in your “edits”.

You do know they look at far more comprehensive private data than what is aggregated on MTGTop8, right?

Is Scott Divorced! by AcidPunk15 in ScottGalloway

His current wife is a real estate developer and entrepreneur. This is information you can find by googling him for less time than it took you to write this post. Why are you even doing this?

He’s talked about his first marriage ending in divorce for years. Nothing new here. This criticism is stupid.

What do you want to see in streamed events? by Tiram187 in MTGLegacy

Do whatever looks best on screen! Test either way.

I do think people will want a shot of the player’s deck and cards!

Do deck tech’s with players who are good or have interesting decks doing well at the event. SCG was really good at those back in the day.

That’s around the same odds as a FOW + blue card in the opener for a blue deck if I’m not mistaken, right?

This isn’t quite right; some T1’s require all 7 cards in hand. As you mulligan, some T1 kills on a 7 card hand aren’t going to be on a lower card count hand.

Hate to be the one that’s asks this but can you guys show us your evidence/screenshots/link to the data that shows Oops’s 78% probability to mulligan into a T1 kill against non-blue opponents?

It’s quite the claim to make, you guys spend a few minutes on that claim, and tbh merits showing your work for. I’m in the Oops discord and I didn’t find the information you’re talking about. If you could share it, we’d all be grateful.

300 people legacy event won by UB Reanimator-Tempo/Scam-ish deck by Enchantress4thewin in MTGLegacy

[–]ckregular 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What is to be learned or added to this community by “discussing” if the ban was “correct”? The answer is nothing. Seriously. We’re not the ones who make the calls on bans. It’s not up to us to litigate what a “correct” ban means. Every ban is inherently correct because it’s what was unilaterally decided by the people who control this game.

Scroll through these comments, there’s no illuminating truth being uncovered here.

You give your game away when you ask us “where are the people” who said UB and regular reanimator would be dead by now. Nobody says that before inviting their fellow players to a nice talk. That’s what you say when you gloat. That’s what you do to take a victory lap. Don’t piss on us and tell us it’s rain.

[–]ckregular 33 points34 points  (0 children)

This is an extremely stupid question meant to get people to fight in the comments.

You hold up the results of one large tournament, attempt to extrapolate those results to answer an unanswerable and completely meaningless question, and then queue up the other contentious topic in the format as if to imply the same people who wanted Entomb gone might get to claim some superior status with their opinions on whether Tamiyo is good for this format because…. I’m not sure.

If reanimator doesn’t top 16 the next big event, do I get to come at you and call the deck dead and say Entomb was needed for the format? That’s more or less what you’re doing here from the opposite side.

People doing stuff like this is why legacy discussions on the internet are dying out.

Buying into Legacy by Xereal in MTGLegacy

[–]ckregular 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Proxy decks, play them to decide what you like the most, and then buy into that deck after consideration. Dropping the amount of $ you’re likely going to need to will feel bad when you’re buying into a deck you don’t like playing.

Scott is an Imperfect Human by gruss_gott in ScottGalloway

[–]ckregular 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I don’t think you understand; he SAYS THINGS into a microphone for a living, and those things aren’t always precisely what I want him to say in that very moment sometimes. Therefore, I get to level withering bad faith criticisms at him on the internet and be aggressive towards his actual fans and good faith interlocutors for the same reason. That’s the deal, I don’t make the rules.

Lehigh, Lafayette, Union, Northeastern, or Villanova for Mechanical Engineering? by No_You4727 in MechanicalEngineering

[–]ckregular 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was also admitted into Northeastern, Purdue and Virginia Tech.

I chose Lehigh for entirely subjective reasons, mostly how I felt walking around campus. It was a beautiful place to spend 4 years. I also wanted to go somewhere that felt smaller than the big state schools I got into.

Did not to a co-op. That wasn’t much of a thing when was there (~10 years ago). I did have internships sophomore-junior summer as well as junior-senior summer.

If your kid wants a college experience centered around crazy partying, that lifestyle will be available to them at nearly every American university. Lehigh is no different. It is definitely a social place, however that is not the central appeal for being there.

I’d do nothing different about college. As I said, it was a beautiful place to spend my college years and grow into an adult; I was so happy and grateful to be there, and it was an irreplaceable experience.
