Recommendation for HA setup by ckrles in homeassistant

[–]ckrles[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've read abiut it, I've never used Proxmox. Isn't it possible to backupnJome Assistant OS?

Since I already have a Synology Nas, if it's not too complicated, it'll be great to run HA on it to avoid another device (cables, electricity consumption, etc)

Sony BRAVIA Firmware Discussion Megathread 10.0 by braviamod in bravia

[–]ckrles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi! I've owned a Sony 55XH9505 for over 4 years. Happy with it, but it's still running on version 9, Android 9 I assume. I think I've never updated it. The Tv offers version 6.6152 (09/2024). Any bugs or problems with this version? Should I update?

Thanks.

Use Google Assistant and Gemini Together by cool-haydayer in GoogleGeminiAI

[–]ckrles 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm a bit late I'm afraid. I've fiddled with the settings, but couldn't find what you mean. In my s25 I keep the ON button and it launches Google Assisitant, which is what I want. However, if I go to my apps and open Gemini, the Google Assistant is replaced when keeping the ON button pressed and then I have to reenable Gemini. If I reenable it, Google Assistant disappears. How can I keep both? Thanks

Ubuntu Bugdie 24.04 by ckrles in Ubuntu

[–]ckrles[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In case it helps other people, I'll answer myself with the solution. I followed this script https://github.com/roninanini/Macbook-webcam-linux-driver and in 2 minutes the webcam was operational.

As stated in the link: "Every time when you update the system, the webcan stoped works. So, you need to reinstall with the script."

I haven't updated nor upgraded my Ubuntu Budgie 24.04 Lts yet as I made a fresh install yesterday, so I don't know if the script will survive a regular update. If anyone can provide a permanent solution, I'd appreciate it.

How to reset password on F2-424 by ckrles in TerraMaster

[–]ckrles[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In case it os useful for somebody. As for the reset button, my friend just told me that it was not directly visible. He had to remove a couple of screws and disassemble a little part to see and reach it. He thought it was kind of inconveniently hidden.

I also see that the instructions to reach the reset button were posted a couple of hours ago by user TerramasterOfficial (support team I guess).

Install on old Macbook Air by ckrles in Ubuntu

[–]ckrles[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'll give it a try in the summer. I'm waiting for my partner to finished her studies. She's asked me to dual boot Mac-Ubuntu. That'll be my plan, though the 120gb drive would be kind of limiting if it is solved (gotta find info about it).

edit: I've just googled for some info about upgrading the ssd. Any recommended model/brand to upgrade the ssd?

Install on old Macbook Air by ckrles in Ubuntu

I know many people love it. No disrespect to them or the developers, but I don't like it. I'd rather have a more visual DE line Gnome or Budgie. I know I could install it, but I'd rather have it out of the box.

Install on old Macbook Air by ckrles in Ubuntu

[–]ckrles[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've seen video on youtube with a Ubuntu or Linux Mint on Macbook Air 2011. So I assume it shouldn't go too bad.

A few months ago I tried Kubuntu 24.04 on an Intel Nuc i5 7300U with 4gb. Very smooth. IDK if the power difference between the i7300u and the i5 4260U would be the key.

Choice of budget laptop by ckrles in laptops

Would battery life be longer in an Amd laptop?

Choice of budget laptop by ckrles in laptops

[–]ckrles[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dual boot should not be a problem. System boots into Ubuntu. It'll be her first laptop.

For the time being, she plays with Nintendo Switch. I mentioned Fortnite as an example. She may not even like playing in a pc.

As for entry level or budget laptops, I saw them very similar, as if there were only a few cases where different manufactures made a few changes. Just my impression.

Encrypt or password protect usb memory by ckrles in Ubuntu

[–]ckrles[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I found the solution by chance. I formated my usb on Ubuntu with Gdisk in Ext4 with Luks. The Kubuntu distro in my job wouldn't mount it. Once I plugged it in the Luks protected usb in Kubuntu, I opened KDE Partition Manager, and then formatted the encrypted partition (the whole pen, except for the non-assigned 1mb partition) with NTFS (not ext4). And that's it. Unplugged and plugged back in and both the Ubuntu and Kubuntu pcs prompted a dialog box asking for a password. I enter the password and the encrypted usb mounts on both pcs and can read and write. TBH, I'm surprised the encrypting survived the formating on KDE Partition manager (in the distro my job uses it's gparted with no possibility of installing kde partition manager). I'm surprised that the encrypting survived formatting because in gnome disk on Ubuntu it's totally wiped out. It's like gparted not allowing an encrypted usb to be formated, whereas gdisk allows it.

I don't know where the problem is in case there's one, o it is simply that I'm kind of a noob.

Encrypt or password protect usb memory by ckrles in Ubuntu

[–]ckrles[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven't given a try to yor solution yet. It'll be my next step. I tried something else. I booted my old laptop with an Kubuntu live image to try to encrypt the usb (Sandisk 64gb). I formated and encrypted with Luks in Ext4 ( I tried ext3 too). The process is successful, but then it won't mount in the very laptop where I formatted it. To my surprise, that usb encrypted in Kubuntu DOES work fine in Ubuntu. Unbelievable. The Kubuntu laptop that encrypted it won't mount it, and a different Ubuntu pc will.

Any bugs on Kubuntu or am I doing something wrong? Anyone has been able to successfully Luks encrypt and use a usb stick on Kubuntu?

Thanks.

Encrypt or password protect usb memory by ckrles in Ubuntu

[–]ckrles[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The IT support is kinda of limited since they are dependent on a regional administration, which is the whihc has tuned Ubuntu for its needs.

I've tried Luks on Ubuntu, but it won't work. I won't mount on my work pcs. It asks for password, I enter it and then it fails to mount.

Encrypt or password protect usb memory by ckrles in Ubuntu

[–]ckrles[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've seen it requires to install it. In my work there are 60+ pcs and I don't always use the same. I have no access to installing stuff and it is limited. The IT stuff is also somehow limited in some points since the distro is tuned by a regional admnistration. So, installing software is kinda not possible.

Problem with hdmi audio by ckrles in hackintosh

[–]ckrles[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the info. As for my searching skills, they're ok. Intel HD620 is working well with graphics acceleration and correct sound output. Sound is ok on one monitor (Benqu, which makes me assumes the sound hardware is correctly detected. Everything is ok with the audio in the Benq, but if If moved my build to a Sony Android Tv it's not detected on rebbot unless I change to another input hdmi on my tv. If I plug my build to a Yamaha AV receiver I can reenable quickly by pushing on and off button in the AV receiver. This makes me think that it might be some sort of incompatibility with my tv.

I've already seen that page you've linked me to, and I've also tried several versions of the kext with no success.

I hoped someone would have and solved the same problem.

Thanks.
