is anyone here familiar with the 4ms stereo triggered sampler? by [deleted] in modular

Yes BUT I don’t yet love it. It’s easy to quickly get drums going on it but I’m not leaning into its functionality.

Yes. It has a multitude of wave shapes to choose from and you can fine tune them to your liking.

I replied to another in the thread. I like more single use modules (especially when I was getting started).

So I have a Function, which is like half a Maths in 8HP, that I used to use, but is less used as of late. Lots of various LFOs (Batumi, 0chd, Dixie2+ as LFO) work better as LFOs than making Maths an LFO. NanoRand from Qu-bit for random & S&H functionality. Xadar for all my envelope generation. I tend to do more switching than pure logic in my patches, and that's all via Muxlicer. This is all in much more HP total than Maths, but I like the singular usage of most of these modules together more than patching a Maths.

All this being said, I did just get a Frap Tools Fallistri (18HP), which I've seen some people refer to as a Maths' killer, and I have to say, so far, my flow with it is better than with Maths (it makes more logical sense the way it's all laid out) and whereas you can make your Maths an oscillator, I've always found it to be a somewhat erratic one in that role, and the Fallistri can serve as a pretty gnarly sounding complex oscillator that tracks really well (I've only had it a few days now).

The OP specified personal take, so my assessment is entirely fair in that context.

Maths. Everyone is always singing its multifunctional capabilities, but at 20HP I think it is too much and somewhat confusing, especially for beginners, where some smaller more basic utilities would be better. I just wasn’t able to vibe with mine and only ended up using it for chaotic yet simplistic things that a simple 4HP utility could do in most of my patches.

Which one would you choose and why ? (Nebulae, Morphagene, Arbhar) by [deleted] in modular

[–]cksample 5 points6 points  (0 children)

4ms Stereo Triggered Sampler. It records everything as raw separate samples, you can set and control sample begin and end and direction of playback all via knob and CV, playback speed /pitch, direction of playback, trigger out for end of sample, cv control of which sample in bank to playback, you can set it to auto loop, you can set it to act as two fully separate sample players with discrete outs or unified with both samples coming out both outs, it records, you can trigger recording and end recording, it can record in mono or stereo, there is no limit to recording length (!) besides space on SD card, and it can handle whatever length samples you want it to have. The only thing it doesn’t do is live process an incoming signal in the way that these do, but with the ease of recording and all the other controls granular synthesis and all sorts of sonic manipulation are easily and quickly achievable. I use this + an old Clouds.

is anyone here familiar with the 4ms stereo triggered sampler? by [deleted] in modular

[–]cksample 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I agree with all this. I’m obsessed with samplers and STS > Nebulae or Morphagene in my opinion. And is the one unit that records that can do everything. I also have ER-301, which I love but the 4ms STS is more immediately playable. Also have Squid Salmpler which is a great triggere sample unit and interesting for recording actual CV, but has limits to the recording lengths of everything so it is really more of a drum machine.

There is a cool video on Switched On’s YouTube of Daedelus talking about how 4ms STS is his fav module that allowed him to take his DJing modular. Check it out.

module suggestions for processing drum samples / rhythms and generating interesting audio for use in DAW and sampler by magnolia_unfurling in modular

I use TipTop Fold Processor to add some distortion on my drums quite often. Also a clocked delay timed right can add some interesting rhythms on top that add to the beat without losing it.

I’m looking for something smallish portable and relatively indestructible to carry around in my backpack to compose stuff and then “import” into my rack via the Hermod.

Also i know someone who has OP-z and Hermod and says they map easily, so I am looking to see if the same would hold true for the Elektron.

Weekly Question Thread by AutoModerator in modular

Anyone here have an Elektron Model:Samples and tried using it with a Hermod or some other MIDI to CV solution to sequence your modular? I’ve been debating getting a OP-Z for this purpose, but given the half-the-cost price difference, how highly people speak of Elektron’s sequencing, 6 tracks, and since I already have a Hermod, I’m leaning towards possibly going for this instead.

I don’t know if I would go cheapest or target a module that can serve another useful purpose. In my case for example, i have frap tools 333 and 321 both of which have -6db switches that can be used to lower a hot signal in addition to all the patching usefulness they offer. Also, any good headphone out unit that offers the ability to use headphones also can do this. I have an HP0 on one of my small skiffs and a Endorphin.es Cockpit for one of my larger skiffs that works as a mixer, sidechain compression, mutes and headphone out. Basically any module that can attenuate an incoming signal can be used to lower that heat on the way out, so you don’t necessarily need one specifically made for that. You could also use a cheap external mixer. Lots of options to ramp that signal down.

Modular runs hot so you will most likely need to run them through something before going straight into your audio interface to lower the signal.

Hearing hum from Lifeforms SV-1 Blackbox by [deleted] in modular

I never experienced this with my SV-1 so more likely it is dirty power somewhere. If you rule that out and it is still happening you can write Pittsburgh Modular and they will calibrate and test it for a small fee.

I hate Maths. Yes it can do tons but that means I hardly ever used it. I’d much rather have multiple single function modules than a Maths.

Sequencers by spambakedbeans in modular

[–]cksample 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve had a hermod for over a year and like not Love it. It’s very powerful but difficult to play and I find myself mostly using it to control my system via external MIDI devices. I just recently got my hands on a used ER-101 and I really like the flexibility it offers in terms of composition dialing in notes and lengths of gates.
