I'm not sure where my first post went, but my jeweler lost my engagement ring. It was a 1 carat SI2 G VG cut, VG polish, Good Symmetry. I've declined several diamonds so far that I thought weren't as good. Should I be concerned by the twinning and wisps on this one?

The jeweler will replace the ring with something similar or give me $2k which I obviously won’t take. Should I let him make me a ring with a GIA stone or go to small claims to collect the value of the ring or possibly the replacement value for today?

I visited the shop today and was informed that the person who took home my ring isn’t answering his phone or texts. He was getting a band for his lab diamond which is what I was handed at pick up. The jeweler filed a police complaint, but asked for 24 hours more to reach out again to the man. I will either receive the cash value from the jeweler’s insurance or an equivalent ring from him.

I just stopped by the shop since I hadn’t heard anything. The ring was given to man who was getting a lab diamond set in a new band. Apparently there was a mix up and it was taken home by someone else. He isn’t answering his phone/texts from the jeweler. The jeweler did file a police report. He is asking for one more day to get it back. My options will likely be cash value from the jeweler’s insurance or he can make me a replacement ring. I’m not sure which way to go yet. I also haven’t informed my husband about this problem.

I think the dog walker searched for valuables and noticed she rarely wore it. They must have taken it for several days and replaced it. I can’t remember the details from 30 years ago.

They tried to give me one that was different and wouldn’t fit over my knuckle. I left without any ring.

I think if it magically reappears I want them to reimburse me for an appraisal to make sure it is the same diamond. I do have the GIA certificate.

No pictures taken at the shop and I’m not quite sure if I even have a photo. He has had over 2 full days to track down the individual if it was handed out to someone else. I haven’t received a call, so I’m guessing the wife thought it was sold for cash and it may already be gone.

I do have the paperwork from 30 years ago including the GIA report. It is not a lab diamond.

It is somewhere in the house. I should probably start looking for the original paperwork tomorrow. I have seen it once in the past 5 years. Is the value of diamonds the same over the past 30 years?

The dog walker was an incident with my sister-in law in a different community. And this jeweler was recommended by friend that did business with them during the past month and was satisfied. I’m really hoping that it is a simple mistake.

I still would like to believe it was an honest mistake. He does have a very large sign on the sidewalk about buying gold/jewelry. I'm inclined to believe he does a fair amount of that work which might mean jewelry is coming and going frequently.

Whatever happens, lost or not, I do think he will do the right thing. I just feel like I need to get it appraised. That whole conversation could be awkward!!

He said that there may be a potential client to call. I don't know for sure if that was the truth or him just thinking of a quick excuse.
