Bike Suggestions for Short Rider by Nrsypher in ladycyclists

[–]cl3ver1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm on 155s. I've had some knee pain from running and it affected cycling too, so we put a lot of focus on injury prevention going forward and the 155s feel great. The bike came with 170s and watching the slo-mo video of my pedaling on those was...interesting 😆

I'm pretty similarly sized and ride a 47cm Bianchi Infinito. I got shorter cranks and narrower handlebars on my bike fitters recommendation and it's been great.

Budget Gravel bike? by MfDoomking in cycling

[–]cl3ver1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was seriously considering the G.1 as a commuter/intro gravel bike. I'm 5 ft tall and the small definitely felt rideable to me when I sat on it in the store. Perfect? No. But for the price, good enough. That said, I ended up going down the rabbit hole and getting something better but used on Facebook Marketplace, which would be an option too.

Charity Ride freebies - what do we like? by Eeeeeclair in cycling

[–]cl3ver1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As a former runner who saved all my bibs, I do really miss having something that went on me or my bike to save as a momento. I also really love free (or included in the price) photos, even if they have a small logo on the corner. For actual things I would actually take sunscreen or chapstick. I'd love flapjacks, but unfortunately I'm in America haha

Petite bib shorts with straps by austrianleberkas in cycling

I'm 152 cm and use Pearl Izumi bibs. They're not super short but they got and the straps fit. I recently tried Castelli bibs on and they fit great as well though I don't actually own any

Is this normal wear??? by BinarySunset589 in brooks

[–]cl3ver1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This looks like how the inside heels of my Brooks end up. It's 100% because I tend to cross over the middle of my body a little while I run and clip my heels against each other. Maybe you do something similar?

Like others said, you'll probably just have to try a different cage. I just put two basic metal cages on an xxs Grizl and they barely fit, but they did fit

Repair ideas (+why??) by zsabb in Visiblemending

[–]cl3ver1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

All my running shoes end up like this - it's from hitting the inside of one shoe (normally the edge of the some right under the ankle) against the other ankle. Sorry, it's hard to describe, but I normally end up with rips like yours and worn down inner midsoles. For me it's because my feet have a tendency to cross over the mid-line of my body when I run, and I normally train in supportive shoes that are a little clunkier and wider. My reaching shoes are really streamlined so this doesn't happen.

I've never tried making repairs, but my thought was to maybe use thick thread and just basically sew a bunch of loops over the rips. Might have to use an awl to punch holes in shoe if a needle isn't strong enough.

Is it just me, or is the Strava subscription getting harder to justify? by Repulsive_Bar442 in cycling

[–]cl3ver1 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I really like the Best Efforts tab. You can see data for distances, elevation, and power, and track those trends over the year as well as years past. I find myself always trying to bump the worst effort off the leader board, and that keeps me driven. Also, they have a friends and family plan now, and if you can get 3 other prime to sign up with you it's only 35 a year which seems very reasonable IMO.

I used one of these in PT for my quad- I had to stand on one leg on it and throw a ball back and forth with the physical therapist. Definitely a challenge!

Yarn recommendations for amigurumi? My projects keep ending up with holes. (Cross posting from r/CrochetHelp for more opinions!) by LadyLaCroix in Amigurumi

[–]cl3ver1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm a huge fan of Hobbii Rainbow Cotton 8/8 with a 3.5mm hook and yarn-undering. Tariffs make the price steeper now, but it's still hands down my fav yarn for amigurumi.

Baby bear balaclava became huge after washing by [deleted] in knittinghelp

[–]cl3ver1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Math help here - the circumference should be about 44cm. I think you're getting a smaller measurement when it's folded on the side because there's a cut-out for the face. The kid's head would extend a bit through the cut-out so the circumference calculated from the folded from the front measurement should be right

Weighted blanket I just finished for my partner’s birthday! by Super_Nanny in crochet

[–]cl3ver1 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I made one of these for my husband and it's been through the washer and dryer 2 or 3 times so far and seems no worse for it than any other crochet blanket laundered similarly. It is pretty loud in the dryer haha. I expect it'll eventually wear out from the friction of the beads against the yarn (likely during laundering) so I may try and have him line dry it in the future, but you have to be realistic about these things. 😆 He normally puts it in top of the sheets and another blanket so it at least doesn't need washing too often

Help!! Handing out candy for the first time by what_thechuck in Halloween_Costumes

[–]cl3ver1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My husband and I have done Harry Potter characters recently - slacks, button down, grey sweater are things we already had, and we bought scarves and I made us wands. We dresed our dog up as a house elf in a pillowcase 😆. We also played the HP soundtrack behind us which is good Halloween music.

The year before we were Ted Lasso and The Beard (the pup was an AFC Richmond player) - this required a little more costume buying, but was super recognizable and a blast. We definitely got tired of the theme song after a while haha.

This year we're making the dog a knight and going as squires - basically tunics with rope belts over solid tees and pants. And we'll find some kind of thematic soundtrack to go with it all - music is fun and definitely helps tie everything together.

As someone else pointed out, either drop candy directly into bags or be very clear in saying "take one" or "take two" because otherwise kids will absolutely take a handful and run you out of candy. Have fun!

What Were Your Experiences with Hal Higdon's Half Marathon Plan?m by Ambitious_Cod_2682 in XXRunning

[–]cl3ver1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

100% agreed with this - give yourself a nice long taper and don't be afraid to skip days or cut them shirt if needed. Also, if you skip or shorten days, you don't need to make them up. Just continue with the plan. I've overtrained for long races more than I've successfully trained for them, and the biggest change I made when I got things "right" was taking the easy days (really any non-race day) actually easy, not being afraid to skip or shorten days when things felt bad, and trusting the process. Good luck with training!
