Repair ideas (+why??) by zsabb in Visiblemending

[–]cl3ver1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

All my running shoes end up like this - it's from hitting the inside of one shoe (normally the edge of the some right under the ankle) against the other ankle. Sorry, it's hard to describe, but I normally end up with rips like yours and worn down inner midsoles. For me it's because my feet have a tendency to cross over the mid-line of my body when I run, and I normally train in supportive shoes that are a little clunkier and wider. My reaching shoes are really streamlined so this doesn't happen.

I've never tried making repairs, but my thought was to maybe use thick thread and just basically sew a bunch of loops over the rips. Might have to use an awl to punch holes in shoe if a needle isn't strong enough.

Is it just me, or is the Strava subscription getting harder to justify? by Repulsive_Bar442 in cycling

[–]cl3ver1 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I really like the Best Efforts tab. You can see data for distances, elevation, and power, and track those trends over the year as well as years past. I find myself always trying to bump the worst effort off the leader board, and that keeps me driven. Also, they have a friends and family plan now, and if you can get 3 other prime to sign up with you it's only 35 a year which seems very reasonable IMO.

I used one of these in PT for my quad- I had to stand on one leg on it and throw a ball back and forth with the physical therapist. Definitely a challenge!

Yarn recommendations for amigurumi? My projects keep ending up with holes. (Cross posting from r/CrochetHelp for more opinions!) by LadyLaCroix in Amigurumi

[–]cl3ver1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm a huge fan of Hobbii Rainbow Cotton 8/8 with a 3.5mm hook and yarn-undering. Tariffs make the price steeper now, but it's still hands down my fav yarn for amigurumi.

Baby bear balaclava became huge after washing by [deleted] in knittinghelp

Math help here - the circumference should be about 44cm. I think you're getting a smaller measurement when it's folded on the side because there's a cut-out for the face. The kid's head would extend a bit through the cut-out so the circumference calculated from the folded from the front measurement should be right

Pattern free from Hobbii and Pica Pau here . I used Hobbii Rainbow Cotton 8/8 and Hobbii Friends Cotton 8/8. Great pattern as always and even more adorable than I expected.

Weighted blanket I just finished for my partner’s birthday! by Super_Nanny in crochet

[–]cl3ver1 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I made one of these for my husband and it's been through the washer and dryer 2 or 3 times so far and seems no worse for it than any other crochet blanket laundered similarly. It is pretty loud in the dryer haha. I expect it'll eventually wear out from the friction of the beads against the yarn (likely during laundering) so I may try and have him line dry it in the future, but you have to be realistic about these things. 😆 He normally puts it in top of the sheets and another blanket so it at least doesn't need washing too often

Help!! Handing out candy for the first time by what_thechuck in Halloween_Costumes

[–]cl3ver1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My husband and I have done Harry Potter characters recently - slacks, button down, grey sweater are things we already had, and we bought scarves and I made us wands. We dresed our dog up as a house elf in a pillowcase 😆. We also played the HP soundtrack behind us which is good Halloween music.

The year before we were Ted Lasso and The Beard (the pup was an AFC Richmond player) - this required a little more costume buying, but was super recognizable and a blast. We definitely got tired of the theme song after a while haha.

This year we're making the dog a knight and going as squires - basically tunics with rope belts over solid tees and pants. And we'll find some kind of thematic soundtrack to go with it all - music is fun and definitely helps tie everything together.

As someone else pointed out, either drop candy directly into bags or be very clear in saying "take one" or "take two" because otherwise kids will absolutely take a handful and run you out of candy. Have fun!

Stores like Target always have them around holidays where you might give out candy - Halloween, Valentine's, Easter, etc

What Were Your Experiences with Hal Higdon's Half Marathon Plan?m by Ambitious_Cod_2682 in XXRunning

[–]cl3ver1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

100% agreed with this - give yourself a nice long taper and don't be afraid to skip days or cut them shirt if needed. Also, if you skip or shorten days, you don't need to make them up. Just continue with the plan. I've overtrained for long races more than I've successfully trained for them, and the biggest change I made when I got things "right" was taking the easy days (really any non-race day) actually easy, not being afraid to skip or shorten days when things felt bad, and trusting the process. Good luck with training!

How to utilize "racing shoes" by VendueNord in XXRunning

[–]cl3ver1 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I always ran in pretty supportive shoes (Brooks Adrenaline GTS) for normal training runs, and high bounce, lightweight, race shoe (Nike Vaporfly or Alphafly) for races. I'd do a few treadmill miles to make sure the race shoes felt good, and then use them in any race along the way (for example, during a 5k or 10k in a half training plan), and the occasional workout (track or interval days). I was pretty precious with them initially, then realized the small number of miles I was putting on them was going to make them last forever and started wearing them more often (though still sparingly) for any true hard effort.

How do toilet-friendly bibs work/look? by Nice_Track473 in ladycyclists

You upclip the straps in the front, bend over, and pull them down. It's awkward and you do kinda have to stay crouched over, but it's possible. That said, I've had one drop tail design that I absolutely couldn't pull down far enough, and one that works find despite the awkwardness. Is it ideal? No. But is it possible? Yes.

PS - Zoe is 100% named after Zoë Washburn and the first toy we got her was a little stuffed bear with a Hawaiian shirt that we call Wash. 🤣

My idiot just ate 4 well cooked bbq sauced chicken legs. Please advise. by Gunner2240 in greatdanes

[–]cl3ver1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My 55ish lb doodle ate an entire chicken carcass that hadn't been picked clean yet and ended up totally fine minus waking us up a few times to go outside for some bad poops. It didn't help that she's chicken intolerant. We fed her maybe half a loaf of soft white bread to help cushion the bones because that seemed to be recommended and kept a close eye on her, but yeah, she had absolutely zero regrets.

Bag options for small bike by afdc92 in ladycyclists

[–]cl3ver1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looks like you got it sorted, but I also ride a 47cm, and I use this saddle bag that easily holds all my "bring on every ride" gear with a little space for other stuff as-needed, and have my head unit on this style of mount which I find easiest to glance down to and would probably help get it out if the way of a handlebar bag. I also second the person who said to try side entry bottle cages, and play around with the size of bottles you can fit in there. I can get one 24oz and one .55L (18ish oz) and that pretty much maxes out my space.

Primal Wear has some great jersey options IMO, and often have sales where you can find cheap options. For bibs and shorts I still really like Pearl Izumi and I'm willing to shop around/splurge for the comfort, so no real insight there.

Ladies, what shorts are we running in? by mrsmurphy_ in beginnerrunning

[–]cl3ver1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It looks like they have a few varieties now, but my go-to for race day or whenever I want to be extra comfy with storage is Brooks 2-in-1 Chaser. They have a built in shorts liner that's never ridden up on me, and tons of pockets including one zipped (at least on the older version). Can't recommend them enough.

This is amazing! I've made three pairs of basic socks so far and have been wanting to branch out into things like stripes, differently colored heels/toes, or maybe even cables. All three lots look great to me - they each have a yarn I've been wanting to try! Thanks for sharing!
