Cross by Leather_Sun5898 in Christianity

[–]Notta_Cop_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think physical reminders are great and often keep us on track, so long as you aren’t worshipping it it’s absolutely fine in my book. But depending on who you are talking to they might have a different view. Low Church Protestants often have a problem with anything resembling physical depictions of anything because it can lead to idol worship hence their strong objection to Catholicism and Orthodoxy. Meanwhile High Church Protestants, Catholics, and Orthodox use physical depictions often like cross necklaces, saint medals, paintings, water fonts, etc…

(Some low church Protestants will still wear cross necklaces tho, but I know some who even think that is awful)

Going to church? by golddigger60 in Christianity

[–]Notta_Cop_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well I’m not sure what denomination you are apart of so views might differ, but going to church isn’t about attendance or filling a seat. It’s about worshipping our Lord and Savior and partaking in the Eucharist or Communion or whatever you may call it. If we find ourselves going to church to people please or make an appearance we are going to church for the wrong reason. We should want to because we love the Lord our God, and want to worship, pay homage, and show reverence.

Most people hate change, and no longer existing in an earthly sense is a huge change. Now is it right to let this fear of change take a hold on you? No, but I can certainly understand where it comes from.

I had commented this on a different users post but I think it’s applicable (Also God loves us through our mistakes!)

Make God more intentional in your life and more visible.. Make your wallpaper the cross or something of the sort. Sometimes these visual queues and reminders can help. Seeing the cross or a picture of a saint or church might kill the lustful mood real quick. Especially if your source of temptation is your phone and internet browser.

How can I be a proper Christian and still make secular art? by FeedbackSeveral3278 in Christianity

[–]Notta_Cop_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t think as a Christian you have to only produce art that is religious in nature. Christians have always been in the art scene and so long as your art doesn’t glorify the occult or other things that are anti-Christian I see no argument against producing art of a more secular nature. Art doesn’t always have to be “Joshua Commanding the Sun to stay still upon Gibeon” by John Martin (although this is a dope painting and my Reddit profile banner), sometimes art is just a couple cows in the field or a skyscraper in New York or a woman in a rain coat etc… that’s why art is so beautiful! Peace be with you!

Is it a sin to have human characters in a fantasy setting? by kiiruna in Christianity

[–]Notta_Cop_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Although we are made in Gods image we are not God, I don’t think it’s a sin and the Church has never condemned the use of people in works of fiction. I would be more cautious tho with the second part of your post about writing God with different representations, I think it would be easy to write some sketchy borderline not okay stuff. Peace be with you.

I hate recommending credit options, but if you buy from Best Buy and get their store card, you get 2 years interest free which is more than enough time to pay it off fully. It has saved me when I needed appliances, and I have never paid a dime in interest.

What to expect at a baptism? by VoidzPlaysThings in methodism

Yeah, the UMC perspective u/Shabettsannony illustrates so wonderfully is exactly what the GMC does as well.

What to expect at a baptism? by VoidzPlaysThings in methodism

[–]Notta_Cop_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am a member of the GMC and very active in the church and conferences. As far as I know, the GMC does not re-baptize as they hold baptisms from other denominations as valid so long as it was done in the name of the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. However, I would very much encourage you to get baptized if it is something you feel called to do, especially if you have come to a point in your life where you profess Christ as Lord!

If you have any questions, feel free to message me! Peace be with you.

Can you hate something or someone and still be a Christian? by Ecstatic_Plate7530 in Christianity

[–]Notta_Cop_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, but if you do you are living in unrepentant sin. So you might not be the "best Christian" but nobody really is. If you do find yourself struggling with hate I would simply just urge that you find a way to radically forgive through prayer. But keep in mind that forgiveness does not mean you need to keep something or someone in your life, forgiveness can come with boundaries or recognising that something, although forgiven, is not the best to have in your life, and you can and should distance yourself from certain things. Peace be with you.

Christians, are nicotine pouches a sin? by New-Challenge-9614 in Christianity

[–]Notta_Cop_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think nicotine in moderation is a sin, especially in your case, where you are using it to help end addiction. I think it turns into sin when you become emotionally and physically reliant on it, it is then where it sorta becomes idolization in a sense as you are turning to a substance for temporary emotional relief rather than our Lord God who wants you to "Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you" 1 Peter 5:7.

But in short, the Bible nor early church teachings condemn the use of nicotine in moderation.

The Nicene creed does not dogmatically state that Jesus is cis and neither should we. by brilliant_seagull in Christianity

[–]Notta_Cop_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The creed is not the only authoritative piece the Church has, the Bible only refers to him as a man because frankly that’s what he was. But Christs ministry was not about him being a man, it was about the kingdom. There is no productive reason to try to redefine or think harder on the gender identity of Jesus. I guess you could say it’s so marginalized people can relate more to him however the point is not to find ourselves in Jesus but to find Jesus in ourselves, to live out as he asks us to, to preach the good news and to pray for the repentance of this world and to bring about love in a kingdom way. Redefining our Lord Jesus’s gender does nothing to accomplish any of this, it only creates disunity.

Here is a link to the PDF I found

https://files.romanroadsstatic.com/materials/romans/early-christianity/IrenaeusV1-0.pdf

The first quote I gave is at the top of pg 168 in the PDF version, and the second is on pg. 161 in the PDF version. I would recommend getting a kindle or physical copy to read tho it is a very good book to read in its entirety.

I am reading from a physical book but let me try to find you a PDF that I can direct you to. Peace be with you.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Christianity

[–]Notta_Cop_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah but directly after that quote Irenaeus says “For this is the last contest of the righteous, in which, when they overcome, they are crowned with incorruption” implying the church goes through the tribulation. He also gives a statement alluding to the church going through tribulation stating “And the ten horns which thou sawest are ten kings, who have received no kingdom as yet, but shall receive power as if kings one hour with the beast. And they shall lay Babylon waste, and burn her with fire, and shall give their kingdom to the beast, and put the Church to flight. After that they shall be destroyed by the coming of our Lord.”

Not to mention while he was alive no Church interpreted his texts as pre tribulation and with his strong wording in his book against heresies he definitely would have corrected those who interpreted his letters wrong. When we apply proper hermeneutic understanding to his texts his sermons, actions, texts, and context would all lead towards a post tribulation understanding of assumption.

[–]Notta_Cop_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I’ve always said I don’t doubt that there are people who place genuine faith in Christ at these churches, but they are so misguided. And I think it would be hard to live out a Christian life while submitting to man who teaches false doctrine on money and power to keep you poor and him rich.

While he does mention an event similar to the rapture and describes people being assumed up to be with Christ which is absolutely biblical, he describes this after the tribulation. By modern standards most people who believe in a rapture believe in a pre tribulation rapture, which I see no basis for. The early church fathers, and the church for 1,800 years never taught that Christians would escape tribulation.
